Bruton Smith negotiating to bring Orlando Magic to Charlotte

Motor sports billionaire Bruton Smith said Friday he is negotiating to buy the NBA's Orlando Magic and move them to Charlotte to replace the Hornets.

sounds good to me. They've got mcgrady and hill (if he ever plays again.) and i know that they've been saving up for another run at tim duncan. If we could get mcgrady signed long term (if we get the magic) it would be a good 5-10 years for charlotte basketball.

As I have mentioned befroe, bringing Bruton into the equation is awesome. Tie in his proposal of some sort of motorsports museum with an arena, and then you got the tourism dollars to put back into the financing. Racing fans, Nascar fans in particular, would have another spot on there nascar circuit around town. Tie in some sort of "racing" theme in naming a team, and memorbilia sales go out the roof. Makes too much sense to me.

Maybe we could work out some kind of trade... we get the Magic, NO gets the Hornets and Orlando gets the worlds biggest steaming pot of jambalaya.

Don't be surprised at ALL if some sort of trade off (via the hands of David Stern and the NBA) is worked out in which Shinn and Woolridge get the Magic in Orlando and Bruton gets the Hornets in Charlotte... and NO gets left out in the cold.

I would tend to agree with brain. Moving a team from orlando is dumb. Moving a team from charlotte to NO is kinda dumb, but moving a team from a market the size of orlando to charlotte or NO is mega dumb. Given that shinn is a floridian now him getting the magic kinda makes sense.

It would be nice if Charlotte could have the Magic but it would very unlikely that the Magic would move from Orlando. What could happen is the Hornets moving to Orlando and Magic moving to Charlotte

Charlotte would then be no better in class than New Orleans if we tried this stunt. I don't want to be in a city that is recognized for being the recipient of another city's team. We need to KEEP the Hornets and let Orlando worry about themselves.

Well I think it would be cool as hell to see those NOLA assholes get what they think they want and definitely deserve in getting Shinnridge owning their team. It will take them less than five years to wear out their welcome down there.

I don't have any problem with relocating another team to Charlotte. Charlotte needs to be in the NBA and playing in a downtown arena. With any ownership group besides the yellow hair and his pet weasel you will get interest back.

Can Charlotte sue for the rights to the Hornets name? If they move to New Orleans make them rename the team, NO Crawdads or something. Then if Magic moves here we could rename them to the Hornets. (similiar to what Cleveland Browns did)
