I recently had my credit card info and address info stolen, and used over seas. I had all the fraudulent charges removed from the card via my visa bank. My real address was used on some of the purchases. What repercussions might I face from the businesses that were ripped off. I.e. a charge of $165.00 was charged for goods to a company in Australia. Will the company come after me for the money they will not get from Visa??

I've never heard of any company doing that. Too much of a hassle and costly for that amount. Plus, unless they have a signature or proof of delivery, there isn't much they can do to prove you made the purchase.

I believe the company still gets their money. Sly?

I was wrong. The merchant actually gets an extra charge from the merchant processor in this situation. It is part of the risk of accepting card not present payments.

Thanks for the replys. I have a little concern if my credit rating (report) will (or could) be effected by this.

If all the charges have been removed as you mentioned, you should be fine. I would pull my credit reports though just to be sure. I do that at least once a year.

Yeah, especially if they shipped the goods to an address which is not the card billing address. But you are right, the merchant no only gets fucked for the bill, they also get dinged with the chargeback fee.

I do mine once a quarter. I had my credit card info stolen and used as well and my wife had some web hosting company she had never heard of place a collection on hers. Got them both resolved with some hassle but now I am proactive about checking.

My girlfriends parents had their info stolen the other week. Her dad never uses his debit card, and the bank called wondering about a charge of 8 bucks to some place in California. After cancelling the card and getting new ones, it was found out that the number was attempting to be used somewhere in Europe, for a much larger charge. Her mom thinks that these people randomly generate numbers and try them for small amounts to see if they work before charging larger amounts to them. They are concerned about the same thing as far as credit rating is concerned. Is this how these schemes work?

In my case, my info had to be stolen from a company I did business with. My name and address was used in the fraudulent purchases.

You need to call the credit bureaus and have a fraud alert put on. It doesn't stop with just one. My wife has been fighting this for years.

Identity theft insurance = $25/year.
I got some company and NO it's not a porn company charging my card $14.95 a month through US Air. I have told them to stop repeatidly. They haven't. I sent a letter to better business bureau and I got a form letter. I may have to change my bank account over this crap. You figure it takes someone 3-6 months to stop them from charging you and multiply that times the 1000s of people they are gigging for $14.95....by the time the credit bureau catches them....they are long gone and have 100s of thousands of dollars.
I need to figure out a way to run this scam...

Is it on you check card or credit card?

I have been fighting these fools for months.....
I got this email today. I thought the company was a USAIR dividends miles company, but apparently they are a credit monitoring company. They were pulling my credit on a monthly basis and supposidly supply me with an up to date credit check. Never got any of that and honestly don't remember giving them my debt card. Looks like it's over now.....I hope.....I'm out right at 100 bucks...
