Yeah, fuck em'. (unless you knew you had to get it cleared first) I won't live in a development that has an uptight HOA, parents ran into the same ugliness when they changed the color of their shudders, good luck!

Why didn't you get it approved first? In our neighborhood it just takes a simple form. I know I have complained about several homes in my neighborhood. My NEXT DOOR neighbor's front door...they made him fix it. Also some other fuck head painted his house lime green...they made him fix it.
I'm all for the HOA's. :deal:
I've been wanting to use this smiley---

Take the shed down and leave the contents just sitting in your yard. They'll shut the fuck up and beg you to put it back up.

Build a crude, yet functional, catapault and fling your doggy-dung at their house all the live-long day.

Dress up in camo and kill them with an axe.

HOAs aren't allowed to do that in NC anymore except in cases where dues are not being paid. That changed last Nov 1, I believe.
They can also place a lien against any fines that aren't paid. :)

They impose fines. If the fines aren't paid, they place a lien. They do it in my hood all the time.

So they fine him for the shed and when he doesn't pay it he will have a lien on his house.

roundabout, yes. But foreclosure is now a lot harder than before.
I've had one experience with an HOA condo. Never again. I was even Vice President. Nothing ever got fixed, our money seemed to just be thrown away, and simple jobs like cutting the grass took weeks to decide which company would do it. And reserve funds? HA! That's a joke. They tried to assess a $387 landscaping bill on all the owners. I pulled up the developers' business dealings with the property and got enough homeowners to vote against it that it didn't pass. HOAs are the new SS Police. Stay away.

That fucking blows.
HOA's are a fucking joke, but he knew it was there when he bought, so he can't complain much.
Put a big American Flag on the shed and tell the media they want to take down your flag.

Ours is pretty damn good. There is a big swim/tennis/clubhouse deal at the entrance. Costs about $120 per month IF you wanted to join. It was privately owned and operated. The HOA got together and bought the thing and added it to the dues. GREAT move. The place was losing money...was going to become a PUBLIC pool. Now everyone's (in the hood) a member and it is financially sound.
They've also done a tremendous job making people paint their homes and to keep stupid shit out of the yards. Yes...they are strict as hell...but most people are too fucking stupid to be allowed to do what they want with their homes. If some dickhole paints his house pink and tosses a birdbath and a couple of flamingos in the front yard, it makes his neighbor's property that much harder to sell. Nice to know you can make a phone call and that asshole will have to fix it back. I used to be on the architectural review board. I was one of the people that approved or not the different projects. 99% of the time it was fine...but some of the shit people wanted to do...:detonate:

My HOA is me, the swamp, and the two cornfields.
Blah, blah, blah, blah. I ain't taking down shit. I just decided to play dumb on this one. I've talked to the HOA and they've said both structures are fine as is. Yea, I should have gotten them approved first, but this was easier. Instead of taking a month, it took two days. As far as that neighbor, evidently she is one of those "I've got nothing to do but look for crap to complain about" types. Screw 'em.

Lime green? That's freaking hilarious! He musta been pissed at someone to do that.
I pay about $70/year in homeowner's fees. I don't expect a lot.

My neighborhood has a voluntary HOA...nothing is in the deed. but depending on which neighbor you talk to they range from having all power to none. one neighbor tried to scare me out of having a massage business at home. i talked to the city and county just today and confirmed that i have nothing to be afraid of. untill it is in the deed, they are full of hot air.
