what was your motivation for losing weight? is there somethign you come back to every day that keeps you going? was there a "lightbulb moment" for you?

i'm always interested in why folks do stuff and what keeps their engine chugging.

Ahhhhh good question.

I think I said it before on here but I will say it again. Aside from the fact that being fat is no fun, I decided to lose weight because my sports performance has gone downhill fast. I play basketball twice a week and don't mean to brag but I used to be able to take over a game in the paint. About a year ago I noticed that I started having bad nights occassionally and now good nights are rare. I want to get back in shape for both my looks and my sanity. i am competitive and need to win.

Now as for my motivation it is the same motivation I used to quit smoking. It is quite simple. i have defined myself as a skinny person even though I am currently overweight. When i come home and want to sit on the couch I ask myself if that is what a skinny person would do and since I am no longer a fat person (even though i currently am overweight) I get off my ass and go run.

You've got more willpower than me. I've been on a diet for 5 weeks and I've only lost 8 lbs. The only thing I want to compete in now is a pancake eating contest. :D

And telling all of us keeps him motivated too...He knows we won't forget and will give him hell if he stops.

I need to shape up and lose some. But with my sleep schedule out of wack all the time I'm always sleepy and don't feel like exercising. I need to just get out there and do it, sleepy or not.

Keep it up, Sly...whatever the motivation. Continue to be my perspiration! I'm sick of being fat too.

Sly - that made a hell of a lot of sense to me...very well put too. I've been crash dieting all my life. I've always been a curvy lass, but I decided that this year, I was going to do it - and make it last. Exercise played a key point in my weight loss so far. In fact, in the beginning - I didn't chage my eating that much - but I moved my ass off the couch - and got moving. For me it was a real lifestyle chage too. No more eating on the run, emotional eating, or high fat snacks. My weight loss is a lot less than I expected - I wanted the pounds to fly off me - but, I'm sticking with it. Some days are good - some days I struggle with it. I guess that all I wanted to say was that for those that are working at it - keep it up! Hell, I've fallen off the wagon so many times, I've got springs on my shoes! :)

Sounds like something that could be worked into the Fall TBR get together. How many TBR members can we get in the air at one time?

Just remember Honeygirl....1 lb a week over a year is 52 lbs.

And skydiving will be an added benefit of losing weight Putt

But they don't make condoms that small. You can go to the Office Depot and get those little finger covers they use to count money.
