I'm planning to shop for a mortgage soon. I've gotten my Experian report and am waiting for the other two. There is a write/off on my report from 2002 that I have never seen before. Now, there is a collections agency listed that I have never heard from - Arrow Financial.

I cannot get in touch with the GEMB company that claims to have written this off because their number requires an account number which I don't have. How do I fix this problem?

I have another GEMB account that is open and current with a zero balance.

Also, there are at least 4 names attached to my account that are not mine.

Well that doesn't seem good. Do you have any idea who they are? Are they on lines of credit or appear as seperate accounts?

The names are just there. They're horrible misspellings of my first name. I don't see that they are attached to any accounts, but I have no idea if they are.

I got my first mortgage in 2003.

Well they pulled under you SSN they might just be misspellings. BTW I am no expert.

Does anyone know if this lowers your credit score? The names, that is. On most accounts I use my full legal name. On my bank accounts I have only my middle and last name. My dad has the same name, Sr. of course.

They shouldn't. Only lines of credit and payment history apply. If these names have no lines of credit you should be OK.

Builder, follow the dispute process for every one of the 3 agencies.

Unfortunately, it takes months to fix and correct your score.

Ok. I just found another account from the same company with a high balance matching the one they claimed they wrote off. Both accounts were opened the same month. The one in good standing has a $0 balance. The other one has a $164 balance but shown as written off. I'm gonna have to think this was their mistake. Come on Freakshow....where are you?

Waiting for an Experian agent now. DOB, SSN and a couple addresses are incorrect. This is bullshit.

Got it. The Account I am disputing is attached to an address I've never had.

If you had just built that project for my daughter, this would never have happened.

Glad this topic came up. I usually pull my credit report each year but forgot to in 2006. Gonna go do that today.

I've not got 8 things being disputed with Experian. 5 of them revolve around one address I've never had. 2 are associated with another address that was never mine. Everything came up in 05.

I doubt it. The amount owed was only $167. He would have bumped that fucker to the max.

That's really scary. Do you reckon it could be like an identity theft thing?

Nah. I got a card with the same company in the same month/year. I think someone made a clerical error and now it's on me to prove that I never lived where it's registered. Lady on the phone told me it's usually pretty easy to resolve since the only account that address is registered with is this one. I hope she's right and it goes away. I don't want a lower score because of some fat fuck's fingers. My account has been paid in full and has carried a zero balance for a while now.

Awwww - he's doing his best .

In any event, I hope it gets sorted. It's the sort of thing I'd have a fit over!

What is the best way to run a credit report? I'll gladly pay a fee if it is easy and thorough and doesn't lead to junkmail

Well they pulled under you SSN they might just be misspellings. BTW I am no expert.

misspellings, not adding the middle initial/name, not entering the DOB, or not providing the proper suffix (Sr, Jr, etc) can all lead to something that's not yours ending up on your credit file. Also try and limit the number of inquiries that will be added to your credit report until you've secured your mortgage. Too many can take your score down also.

Do what builder mentioned, but you'll have to pay if you want to see the actual scores.
