Pens pick up George Laraque for some scrub and a draft pick.

Pens also get Gary Roberts for Defenceman Noah Welch (that 'c' was for you Franchise) I've been looking forward to Welch coming up to stay in the NHL for a while, what I've seen of him I really liked. Hate to see them give him up for a senior citizen

Biron to Flyers for Ty Conklin and an undisclosed draft pick. Um, I guess they aren't worried about the injuries.

Bill Guerin has been plucked off the available list as the St. Louis Blues have dealt the veteran forward to the San Jose Sharks in a three-way trade with another undisclosed team.

The Sharks have reportedly given up their first-round pick in 2007 acquired from New Jersey and a non-roster player to be named later.

More to follow.

wasn't conklin with the Jackets? maybe it was a three-way, or the sabres picked him up off waivers.

any word on the pick they got?

edit: never mind two seprate trades (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/hockey/nhl/02/27/bc.hkn.sabres.flyerstra.ap/index.html)

Bertuzzi to Wings

Todd Bertuzzi's stay in the Sunshine State was short-lived, as the Florida Panthers have agreed on a package to trade the veteran power forward to the Detroit Red Wings.

In return, Detroit gets a conditional draft pick and prospect Shawn Matthias.

Bertuzzi, 31, is in the final season of a four-year, $27.8 million contract and will become an unrestricted free agent in July.

Well fuck. I was looking forward to getting Roberts back for the playoffs. Check this shit out:

It looks as though the Penguins won’t have the services of Gary Roberts during the playoffs. Will this effect what Ray Shero does at the NHL’s Trade Deadline? Tonight on KDKA-TV, Bob Pompeani reported that Roberts season and possibly his career could be over.

Pompeani says that Ron Cook of the Post-Gazette reports in tomorrow’s editions that
Roberts, who was expected back soon, after a long recovery from a broken leg, has had a major setback. In fact, his career might be in jeopardy

Roberts told the p-g, that he tried to skate 2 weeks ago and crumbled to the ice in a heap……
He was r-examined and it was revealed that he tore a ligament in his ankle….and now, he hopes to be back by march 27th….but that is a long shot at best!

more deals rolling in per TSN:
Leafs send F Chad Kilger to Panthers for 3rd round pick; Coyotes send F Fredrik Sjostrom, F Josh Gratton, G David Leneveu to Rangers for F Marcel Hossa and G Al Montoya; Isles send D Marc-Andre Bergeron to Ducks for 3rd round pick; Kings send D Brad Stuart to Wings for a 2nd and 4th round pick; Kings trade G J.S. Aubin to Ducks for a 7th round pick.

EDIT--
this deal affects the Charlotte Checkers--the extra bodies in the Rangers deal will likely end up in the AHL in Hartford. Hence, the Checkers are getting G Chris Holt, F Jared Nightengale, and F Tommy Pyatt.

That pick is a 1st rounder. I keep going back and forth wondering if we gave up to much for a free agent. I actually have a fucking upset stomach. Guy on the radio on the way home liked the trade, made me feel a bit better. They need to sign him but they couldn't possibly could they? Esposito reminds me of Radek Bonk. wtrf wow

guys I have spoken with in the league about the Hossa trade say the Thrashers wouldn't have done the deal without Espo in the mix. Espo is supposed to be sick good, but if Pitt wins the Cup, no one will remember Espo...until of course, he starts to light things up in the show.

Playa
02-26-08, 06:35 PM
Espo was set to0 be #1 overall when he was 16 but his stock fell. I think it was a lazy attitude but I can't remember now. Reminds me of a Yashin. I guess hoping his career tanks wont help the Pens any, but it would make me feel better/.

Don't know...they are gonna have to pay Malkin, Sid too, I imagine Staal, and I know there is one other I'm leaving off. If they can convince these guys to take as much as the Pens can afford (cap wise), they could be the modern day Oilers. I really like their nucleus, the parts that have been added make them even better. I don't know (based on how little I have seen them) how solid the D corps is (as in top 6), but overall, Pens are now up there (for the stretch run) with Ottawa in the East. Sens are going to be a tough out in the playoffs, if they stay healthy.

when the offense starts averaging 6 gpg, I'm sure the defense and goalie won't give up more than 5 gpg. I'm calling it now, Pens over Dallas in 6 games. Once again, Canada gets to see the Cup south of the border.

I said "could be". Fleury and Conklin are a nice duo, not Moog/Fuhr, but still not bad for the new NHL.

Playa
02-26-08, 11:29 PM
Pens have three good offensive D-men in Gonchar, Whitney, and Letang. They lost their best solid defenseman in Eaton for the year, but I give Thieren a lot of credit for the improved defense over the past two years. I just hope he figures out a way to work out the goalie situation. Having a surprisingly strong goalie with the main man coming back isn't the worst situation, but goalie management is some fragile shit.

Anyways- how do you guys like Ladd for Ruutu?

I like it. I think Ladd is really overrated and Ruutu is better. He did well tonight and laid a monster hit on a guy. Canes won another game. I would like to get through at least the first round of the playoffs, but I don't see this team going past that without Roddy.

Virtual swap of the same player. Ladd is greener (in terms of experience), but he was playing well before the trade. I'll like him in Chicago as the Hawks continue to build with youth.

Ruutu is the anti-euro. Physical and gritty. I like that too. We'll see how his face heals after Elias whacked him last night. Not a bad pickup--they could have done better, but they also could have done a whole lot worse.
