I'm comparing the Canon 10-22mm and the Sigma 10-20mm lenses. the Canon is half a stop faster (3.5 vs 4) and has 2mm more reach but is $200 more expensive. Are half a stop and the Canon name/reputation worth the $200?

Also, I'm thinking of ditching my kit lens when I get a wide angle. Do you think I'll miss the "hole" that I'll create between the long end of my wide angle (20 or 22 mm) and the short end of my standard zoom (28mm)?

you won't miss the hole at all.

i'd get the 10-22.

Cool, thanks. I think I'm going to bundle that with the 200mm 2.8 prime. Maybe add a longer zoom later, but I think those two will keep me a happy camper for a looooooooong time.

I just Bit the Bullet - ordered the 10-22 from Amazon.

I'll post pics once I get it in hand.

sweeeeeeeeeeeet!

if you do pics of people, you're going to have to get REAL close to them now.

a friend of mine loves shooting wide. you should check out his site for some inspiration while you're waiting for your new lens!

new glass. i'm jealous.

what's the site?

yeah, I'm looking forward to the perspective of getting really close to big objects and still getting them in frame - I'm stoked.

First shot - 10mm - View from my front porch

House from about 15' away (forgive the yard needing to get mowed and the crap on the porch).

(I know these subjects suck, as does the composition. I was really just taking pictures to see what this lens could do.)

I've never been able to get this tree in the frame before.

I was going to take a picture of my dog when I looked down at the ground through this lens - damn near got vertigo.

Here are the same silos I posted once before in the "composition" thread. I'm looking forward to using the effect the distortion has on large objects.

Last ones - 2 pictures of Buddy in his favorite places, beside my grandparents' recliners.

I REALLY like the perspective the distortion has on these.
