The season has long been lost and neither team really seems up to that whole "playing for pride" thing. However, this one little seemingly insignificant game has something riding on it that normally is a blurb at the bottom of most articles but this year has become a voice shouting from every mountain.

Clemson has never ever won in Chapel Hill.

Sorry Tigers, its going to be a good game but I think UNC has just enough left in the tank to keep this streak going. I would love to see Clemson win but I just dont think it will happen.

Oh ye of little faith. If there is a God up in underdog basketball heaven, this will happen. It must. Talk about now or never.

Not a Clemson fan or anything - I just like rooting for the loser in long, one-sided series like this one.

Very creative and thoughtful post there Wossa.

If that is all the spirit the legendary Wossa can muster then I may have to change my prediction.

Sly,

After a season to forget like this one?

The boys have sucked all the fight right out of me.

Makes me feel almost like a dook football fan. :D ;) :p

This is Senior Night for Capel, Lang and Bersticker (HIP, HIP, HOORAY! DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE WAY OUT!)
so I would hope the team could muster up enough courage to take care of business at least one more time.

But Clemson wil be sky high for this one. It may be their only really good chance to end this streak and throw the last shovel of dirt on the 2002 UNC grave.

Is it arena football season yet??

I say we forfeit and start from scratch. Who really cares about streaks anyways. You Dook fans are always babbling about streaks. Good greif. :D

Dukey, you are one of a kind. Thanks for making me laugh. I don't think the pup can play point, but he sure can cheer really loud.

Wossa, it warms the heart to hear you wishing a fond farewell to three loyal Tar Heel seniors, Bersticker, Lang, and Capel!

As a longtime ACC fan, let me let you in on a little secret... These guys represent the true Carolina basketball tradition MUCH better than many of the more recent superstar heroes that are now gone. At least as far as Lang and Capel are concerned (don't know as much about Bersticker), they both played four years, never got into any trouble, will probably graduate, and played solid team basketball.

Yes, they are only role players, but is that their fault???!!! You act as if it is! These guys are in the tradition of other great Carolina role players that never went on to superstar NBA careers. Guys that played significant roles on National Championship teams. Guys like Jimmy Black, MATT DOHERTY, Pat Sullivan, and MANY more. Swap any of those guys (with the exception of Black) with Capel or Lang, and Carolina would still struggle this year.

I know from your previous posts that you blame the TEAM for being in this situation. Well, imo, you need to modify that just a bit... This is a failure of the PROGRAM. Faulty succession planning, faulty recruiting, faulty coaching, and yes, faulty play by the entire team.

We hear so much about the great tradition at Carolina, maybe you need to consider the types of players that tradition was built on before continuing to insult loyal Carolina players like these guys. How do you think Deano himself would characterize the careers of these three young men?

Good luck next year with Felton and the rest of the crew. I'm sure that they will go down as some of the all-time greats at Carolina. That is, if they stay for more than one year...

Good post. Go Clemson.

Whatever! Fact is, Capel runs his mouth too much. I have thought for that past two seasons that he is a cancer on that team. I don't know how much blame I lay at Lang's feet. I do know the guy shoots most of his shots two feet from the goal and his shooting percentage is around 48%. That is terrible. Bersticker and Melendez have contributed nothing to this program either.

Damn wonder why the Holes didn't play like this every night? 34-15 right now - guess it's one of those streaky nights.

i kind of felt like forte's ego made things fall apart last year. this year it's a lack of talent, and i'm not sure i understand the offense.

lonewolf - FUCK YOU.

I guess over the long years you have become the expert at knowing what makes teams suck.

As for Lang, Capel and Bersticker - my main beef with the them is all three played better as freshmen than they did as seniors. For a large part of this season they wasted valuable minutes that could have gone to developing the soph and freshmen on the team.

Capel has an attitude from Hell. He has set an example as to how UNC players should not behave.

But - I don't really hate these guys and I wish them well - I'm just glad they will no longer be "the backbone" of the team.

So sly - does this mean we just won the national championship?

woo hoo!

I guess this means we get to wear the home jersey for the Les Robinson game!

Its just too damn hard to get all giddy over a 30 point victory looking back at the home losses to Ohio, Davdison and Hampton.

as for this weekend - I bet this confidence and performance will carry over to dook and the first half ( or most of it ) will be a good, close game. But no way the dookies lose two in a row to the Heels at home and dook will eventually pull away and win by 25+.

Hmmm... I must be hitting pretty close to the mark, huh Wossa?

Brilliant response. You are a credit to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill...

You misunderstood me the first time lonewolf.

What I really meant to say was :

FUCK YOU AND THE HORSE YOU RODE IN ON!

It's nice to see the so-called "Carolina refs" are still out in full-force, or at least for games the Heels have a chance of winning. I felt bad for David Hobbs, and Scott--how the hell was that a foul on the blocked shot? Poor guy gets a spectacular defensive play taken away because of a bad call.

That game was poorly called on both ends. It didn't decide the game!
