I have red filters that I used with film. Now that I have a d70 Nikon, I'd like to get back to black and white shots. Do I need to use the filters with digital? Without the filters film prints look dull.

from what I've read online (I've got no first hand knowledge), digital is more foregiving than film if you don't use the filter, but the filter still helps.
i shoot raw and convert to b/w. beautiful results.

Maybe the current software I use isn't all that. I'll experiment and see if I can post with and without filters. Shooting old barns has been my interest. The detail of wood grain, shadows, roof texture and farm equipment need great detail to get the "feel" of the time. Maybe I'm asking for too much out of the shot.
