Ok guys and gals,,,, the road to Garner starts this week for many American Legion teams. Since DownSouth has started an Area 4 thread,,,,, post all scores and information relating to Area 3 here...
Thanks and good luck to each team.
Area 3 teams include the following:
Southern Division-
Kannapolis
Rowan County
Mocksville
Stanly County
Mooresville
Concord
South Rowan
Statesville
Wilkes County
Lexington
Montgomery County
Northern Division-
Kernersville
High Point
Burlington
Winston-Salem
Eastern Randolph
Randolph County
Western Forsyth
Surry County
Rockingham County
???- seems like I'm leaving some Northern Division teams out, if northern posters would help me out, thanks.
xxx- Kannapolis is defending Area 3 champs
First game in Area 3 (that I know of):
Today (Sunday May 20), Kannapolis at Burlington
Just to get some conversation started with my brethren to the north,,, folks here in the south have often discussed that "our side" has been awful strong and balanced the past handful of years,,, and its interesting to see that the past 5 area champions have been southern division teams...
2002- Rowan County
2003- Kannapolis
2004- Kannapolis
2005- Lexington
2006- Kannapolis
....coincidence, or not? Stanly County, Lexington and Rowan County look awful strong again this year, with South Rowan and Concord possibly fielding their best teams in years...

Yeah but half that team is fielded by Butler players who didnt see the field tonight because they are still active in playoffs
Burlington beat Kannapolis 7-0 last night. Burlington (as always) once again looks good.

Even though Newell didnt have all of there players they are still a quality team. Corey Shaylor is an excellent player. Robbie Bray is a good arm that started on the mound for Newell. He was a bit rusty but still had good stuff. Concord had 17 hits so it was a good start for them hitting wise and a good effort on the mound from Central Cabarrus player Jeff Council.
Council 6 IP 7 hits 6 K's 1 ER
Council was also 4-5 at the plate. Concord plays in Asheboro on Tuesday and at home against Asheboro on Wed. As of right now and possibly all year Concords home games will be player at Central Cabarrus as Webb field is being renovated.

agreed, i wasnt tryin to hate on Concord or diminish their win i was just saying
It was a good win for Concord, though I think bulldogfan3 was just saying it might have been a little closer if 5 or 6 players were playing for Newell, thats all!
They will have all of their team after the playoffs are over!
Good luck to both squads!

Oh yeah i agree. Sorry I wasnt posting in response to him, i was just saying it was good to see those bats early for Concord. It would have definately been a totally different game if all those players from butler were there. It was also a compliment to Newell's team because they have some good players already. They should be a very good team when the Butler kids come out.
Could one of you Area 3 Folks please send me a private message?

I should be getting the Surry Pride schedule later this week.
On a side note: It's looking like Post 123 in King has a good shot at getting a team back next year. We lost our team a few years back to Winston-Salem because the lights at the Legion field were horrible. If West Stokes gets lights next year, which rumors around town sound positive, King is supposed to get a team back. It won't be Winston-Salem moving back to King, but I separate King and/or Stokes County team.
JM15,,,,, I'll do my best,,,,,, go ahead and reserve one of the 2 Area III slots for the state tournament for Stanly County.
Remember, ole tj said it here first.

Area III only gets one spot in the title game this year.
SuperJon,,,, I never said Area 3 will have both teams in the title game,,,, I'm merely picking Stanly County to be "one" of Area 3's two representatives at the state tourney.
SuperJon
05-22-07, 11:07 PM
I meant the state tournament. Area III only gets one team in the state tournament this year.
SuperJon,,, why is that? Ordinarily each area sends 2 teams. The only stipulation is the host area only sends one, because the host team occupies that area's other slot. Garner is the host team, and they are not in Area 3.
Are you referring to a change in the format that they've used since 2000, or would you care to explain why Area 3 specifically won't be sending but one team? Because that would be news to me. Thanks.

Area III was supposed to host this year but no one in Area III wanted it, so Garner took it and is taking the host spot from Area III.
I read that a couple days ago, can't remember exactly where though.
SuperJon,,,,,,,with all respect, I believe you got some bad information. Area 3 hosted the state tourney last year (Thomasville), the Hi-toms were the host team, and Kannapolis (area champs) were the area's 2nd team there. This year, it is Garner's area's turn to host it, and Garner is the host. The tournament rotates from each of the 4 areas each year,,,, no area gets 2 years in a row, except that DID happen once in 2004-5. Area 4 hosted the tourney 2 straight because Area 1 or 2 couldn't come up with a host site, so the tourney was in Shelby one year, and Cherryville the next.
But with Thomasville (Area 3) hosting it last year,,, Area 3 was never approached this year. Whoever told you this, was possibly referring to the situation that occurred back in 04-05,,,, my guess.
You bout had me scared that our area was being penalized for something. Thanks for explaining what you heard.
Btw,,,, with a program in Area 3 like Rowan County, theres never a problem getting someone in Area 3 to hold that party,,,, in fact the rest of us usually have to duke it out with Rowan just to get the inside track over them, because they will push hard to get something like that. I will say Rowan runs first class tourneys.
SuperJon
05-23-07, 10:25 AM
I found it a little hard to believe too. I figured with Rowan (Catawba) and Thomasville (Hi-Toms) and some of the other parks, it'd be easy to host it.
Don't know where it came from, glad to hear it's wrong.
I'm pretty sure that this was Area 2's year to host but nobody down there took it.
JM15, is Garner Area 1? If they are, then based on what you just said, maybe it was Area 2 that couldn't host it,,,, don't know, just trying to see where SuperJon got his info.
And SuperJon,,,,, no problem, I just knew (trust me I can assure you) it wasn't offered to Area 3 again this year, there would be too many grumblings about certain teams jockeying for position.
Garner last hosted Area I's turn in 2001. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe 2005 should have been Area 1 again but Cherryville bid on it and took it. 2006 was Area III (Thomasville) and 2007 should have been Area II (I thought Morehead City and the Wilmington teams were shooting for it, but couldn't get a large enough big together?).
By the way, I am in the process of getting Area 3 Schedules posted on the State Tourney website (www.nclegion2007.com). If you guys could, please e-mail me with score updates and any standings some of you may keep up with.

Concord was beat by a very good Asheboro post 45 team on Tuesday 4-2 in Asheboro. Concord bounced back last night to play and defeat Asheboro 7-2 at home. Concord opens up league play on Saturday in Ktown.
Kannapolis beat a very good Burlington team tonight 3-2 to get a split in their season series between the 2 teams. Jacob Wright homered for Ktown(1-2) who plays their first league game Saturday night at home against Concord. Should be great crowds with Concord at home on Saturday night, then Mooresville at home on Sunday night.

Smartbaseball,,,,, I don't have specific numbers in front of me, so others are certainly welcome to chime in, but since you asked on this thread, I will tell you what I know. In order to host a state legion tournament, first you need to have an adequate stadium with adequate seating and parking, which is also near enough motels to house the out-of-town teams. That is first and foremost, period. After that, it can become a bidding war depending on how nice you want to make it. I have really honestly only seen one state tournament that was on the slack side,,,,,,, others have been tremendous. In recent years, Shelby and Rowan County stick out as the top party-throwers for such an event. And yes, a good host needs $$$ up front, you need corporate sponsors willing to feed numerous players for up to a week. You need things for the boys to do when not playing. A good tournament can take a year to prepare, this is why bids are handed out a year in advance. This is also why there are some instances where a certain area simply cannot come up with a team that is willing to do it when the turn comes around.
However, as for your return,,, a host site gets a week long of great baseball, and from what I have seen, there is generally lots of $$$ spent in and aruond those tournaments so the host team and town is also benefitting financially as well.
I would guess in the $20,000-$30,000 (maybe more) range is your cost for such an event,,, but I've heard from several different sites that the return is much more,,, which is why there are certain programs who are well-established that literally JUMP at the opportunity to host such an event.

Kannapolis moves to 2-0 in Southern Division play (3-2 overall). Will be back at home tomorrow (Monday) night in a non-league game against Randolph County.
Robbie Gurley pitched well into the 7th inning tonight for Ktown, with Jay Hosack adding a 3-run homerun in the 1st inning to get the home team started. Mooresville took a 6-4 lead in the top of 9th inning, but Ktown scored 2 in bottom half to force extra innings. Another great win over a quality opponent.
Last I heard, unofficially that great pitching duel between Mocksville/Rowan turned into a 16-5 Rowan rout. Sorry no details on that game, maybe someone from Davie County or Rowan can give us some more info.

Wow, 17 runs. Any details? Who pitched?
Rowan County is the real deal this year. Rowan is simply loaded in pitching. They're 3-0 having already pitched 3 college guys and I saw several other college pitchers on the bench. Weston Church (Catawba signee) pitched a complete game for Rowan to get the win, and Ross Steedley (UNCC signee) got things started for Rowan with a 3-run homerun in the 1st. Justin Roland is only a junior at East Rowan HS but no doubt he could be one of THE BEST shortstops in the state before he gets done playing, will definitely be a college catch for someone, little small in height but INCREDIBLE bat, glove, arm and speed. I'm sure college coaches are already all over him.
And for those who think legion ball has its problems,,, there was estimated 1000 folks at this game, 2 radio stations, 2 newspapers, and the winner's half of the half/half drawing was $247.00.
Great night for baseball.
Oh btw, if folks will remember Kannapolis' Alex Edwards in their prayers, this young man tore an ACL during football season this past fall (his senior year), had surgery, and has slowly rehabbed back in hopes of getting back on the baseball field. He began DH'ing late during the HS baseball season but not playing the field until just last week in legion ball. During his first AB last night he injured his "other" leg, but not sure to what extent yet. If folks will just remember this young man, because he's a fine young man who's recently had some tough luck. Thanks.
Sounds like Rowan is the real deal... What's up with Burlington this summer? Looks like they have been getting drilled. Are they missing any players due to HS playoffs?
Burlington is just like us, they've probably lost some key players and they're searching for players to step up. They'll be ok, but its difficult to stay at the top every single year.
As for Rowan, well ignore what I just said, because it truly seems as though they are near the top every year. This year Rowan has super defense and they are deep in college level pitching. It will be difficult for teams to score runs on Rowan. As for offense, their leadoff man (Roland- ss) is cat quick and is great at getting on base. Their 345 hitters all hit with consistent power. After these hitters, a great pitcher can keep the others in the lineup somewhat reasonable, but the problem facing Rowan is they are so disciplined and do all the little things so well. A team will have to play a great game to beat them, and Rowan should be favored in any series with their pitching depth.
I picked Stanly earlier to be an Area 3 representative in Garner,,,,, but Rowan showed me a lot last night. I knew they had the pitching and defense, but they swing the sticks better than I realized. And not just against us, keep in mind Rowan scored 15 on Mocksville just 2 nights ago and Mocksville started a pretty good pitcher (John McDaniel- Pfeiffer).

Lexington (http://www.the-dispatch.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?template=wiki&text=Lexington%2C_NC)-Davidson American Legion Post 8 bounced back from its season-opening defeat Sunday with a 17-5 win in seven innings Tuesday over Mooresville Post 66 in Mooresville.
Chaz Frank led the offense with a 4-for-4 effort, including a double and two RBIs. Zack Briggs added two doubles and three RBIs, Daniel Kassouf added two hits and three RBIs, Alex Grubb went 2-for-5 with a home run and scored twice, Ben Redmond had two hits and scored three times, and Matt Tysinger went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. In all, Post 8 banged out 15 hits to support Nathan Dunn, who threw a complete game and struck out seven.

ROWAN CO 13 E RANDOLPH 4
SS FOR ROWAN DOES HAVE QUICKNESS AND ROWAN HIT THE BALL WELL, BUT THE KEY TO THIS GAME WAS ER 9 ERRORS IN THE FIRST 4 INNINGS. 9 UNEARNED RUNS
ROOWAN STILL A VERY GOOD TEAM.
Rowan shortstop Justin Roland has EXTREMELY good quickness, in fact Salisbury paper said just yesterday he's the best leadoff batter to come out of Rowan County since Cal Hayes, Jr.,,,, and Roland is only a HS junior, so he will get better. What impresses me about Roland is that he gets to every ball, and despite his short height, his arm is usually one of the strongest arms on the field. The kid just makes plays, period, defensively and offensively.
As for Rowan, they are now 5-0 and the rich just get richer. Former Catawba College pitcher Lee Dupree is no longer attending Catawba so he is now eligible to pitch for Rowan Coach Gantt, so he becomes the #4 man in their rotation, thats right a college pitcher is #4. wow.
Also, in Area 3 South action last night,,,, Mooresville beat South Rowan 7-3 in a non-league game.

Why'd he leave Catawba and college baseball just to come back home and play Legion ball for the same coach?
I can't explain why he left Catawba College,,,,, I just reported what I found out today. But when he left Catawba and became eligible for the Rowan legion team again,,,,, I'm pretty sure that was a no-brainer.
Coach Gantt is not the issue here,,, these kids dream to put on that uniform that says ROWAN.

Should be a great game tonight as Randolph County Post 45 travels to Kernersville Post 36
From the Salisbury Post ...
"Dupre played at Catawba this spring, and ordinarily wouldn't be able to play for Catawba coach Gantt in the summer because of NCAA rules. But Dupre is no longer enrolled at Catawba.
"I just didn't do what I needed to do to stay at Catawba," Dupre said. "I'm talking to people at Wilkes Community College, but I have no clue what I'll be doing next year. "
Sounds like an academic issue to me.

Yea, that's what it is. It has to be. It also seems as if he's been a DII pitcher, he could pitch some place besides WCC. Surry, Pitt, Louisburg, Lenoir, etc. Somebody's gotta have a spot for a proven pitcher.

Found out some more info on his status at Catawba:
He made the grades to be eligible, so that's not the case. The problem at Catawba occurred because his academic scholarship required him to have a GPA higher than the NCAA minimum and he wasn't able to get it, thus losing those scholarships. Catawba's expensive to go to.
Hopefully he gets a shot at a good JC next year and can get an offer for his junior and senior years.

Was Levi Michael & Zack Briggs at the game?
I realize the headlines on TBR are Caldwell & Rowan (and rightfully so). But don't dismiss Post 8. They can swing it this summer...better than any season I've watched in 10 years. Loaded for bear...if their pitching can step up. If Zach White was playing...Oh My!

If I am guilty of putting Rowan County in my headline list,,, let me explain,,, because all I have attempted to say that Rowan is loaded, and they are. I have historically for the past few years always said that the Area 3 South has as many QUALITY teams as any league around the state, and this year is no different. Certainly Lexington could use Zach White but they are still a quality ballclub,,,,, and guys if you go back and read, Stanly County is still my pick. Stanly will be in the thick of things, just watch. All I have tried to say about Rowan is that this is maybe their best year since their state championship year of 2002. Rowan, Lexy and Stanly,,, put those 3 in a hat, and you can't go wrong with either, definitely the cream of the Area 3 South crop this year.
South Rowan probably heads the next group of teams, but there is a gap after the top 3. Just my 2 cents.

Rowan's pitching staff sets them apart. Keegan Linza (USC signee) is back after playing last summer in showcase ball. Cy Young and Lee Dupree are returning from a year of college ball. Trey Holmes, who didn't pitch because of an elbow injury at East Rowan this year, could return in a week or two. East's best pitcher this year isn't going to throw because they are so deep. Weston Church is the number 3/4 starter. Others that will see innings are Travis Ridenhour, Matt Hall, Corbin Shive. Any of these guys would be the number 1 or 2 starters on most squads.
Rowan will hit for average, but they don't have a lot of power. This is there only weakness. They will play small ball.

Zach chose to play for the Dirtbags this summer. He's a rising senior, so I think he made a wise choice. This summer could make the difference in how fat his scholarship offers are.
Lexington has a couple of kids (Briggs & Levi) who are playing both Showcase & Legion, but they are position players. Pitchers can't do double duty because of arm/inning issues.
Just to be clear: No one at Post 8 faults Zach. He hangs around the dugout during week night games, & his parents are in the stands supporting.

Thanks for the update...I was just hoping that it wasn't the result of an injury or something else like that.
Travis,,,, I've been telling folks that starting pitching is Rowan's strength. Their depth with starting pitching is just incredible, and they will be tough to beat when the playoffs rolls around and you have to beat them 3 outta 5. Lexington swings good sticks and still has great pitching, their beating Rowan the other night was no fluke. Lexy would have a better chance if Zach White was with them, but he isn't. I may be wrong, but I still believe Stanly County will be the team who turns out to be the most complete team from Area 3 South in terms of pitching, hitting, defense,,, the whole ball of wax.
Those 3 teams appear to be separating themselves from the rest of the league.

Remember the name Alex Grubb. He just completed his sophmore year at West Davidson. This kid is a beast. Big lefty outfielder. He's batting around .500 with 7 HR (I think) already this legion season. He's got DI pop in his bat. If he keeps progressing he could be one of the all timers at West Davidson and Lexington Post 8.

You want to talk about an unbelievable lineup, Post 8 has got it. When a guy who doesn't even play every day goes 5-for-5 and hits for the cycle, man. Grubb, Roach and Frank in the outfield, with Yount playing at least every other day. If Hunt, Sechrest and Watson pitch like they can, this team could very well win a state title.

Sosnoskie makes an impact right off the bat
By BRAD NORMAN
wnorman@statesville.com (%22wnorman@statesville.com%22)
Thursday, June 14, 2007
So far, Buddy Sosnoskie is fitting in just fine with the Statesville Owlz.
After moving to the area with his parents last Monday, the recent high school graduate is already making quite an impact on Statesville’s American Legion squad.
“He’s a very good ballplayer,” Statesville head coach Mike Grant said. “He’s also a very likable guy.”
The Virginia Tech signee has given the Owlz an offensive boost and an extra arm on the mound. Sosnoskie, who batted cleanup on Tuesday against Mooresville, is 5-for-6 the last two games, and he also reached base on an error.
Those hits include a home run against Rowan County and a triple off the wall against Mooresville. He was equally impressive on the mound against the Moors.
After replacing starter Brandon Wiggins at the top of the sixth inning, Sosnoskie allowed three hits and one run in the final four innings while striking out eight.
A big lefty, Sosnoskie uses a slow, deliberate windup, and he blew fastballs past Mooresville batters while also mixing in some good off-speed stuff. “He did a really good job for them,” said Mooresville third baseman Joe Manser, who had a double and struck out against Sosnoskie. “And he hit it well, too.”
The Owlz, who use a four-man rotation, have had trouble with middle relief pitching this season, and Grant will continue to use Sosnoskie as both an outfielder and pitcher. “Absolutely, we’ll use him as both,” Grant said. “We’re hearing that Virginia Tech will use him as both also.” Sosnoskie’s appearance on the mound Tuesday was his first of the season for the Owlz. He was used as a closer by his high school team.
“That was the first time in a while I’ve thrown more than one inning at a time,” Sosnoskie said. “I’ve got to learn how to build.”
One thing he doesn’t need any help on his hitting. “Hitting has always been my thing,” Sosnoskie said. “I like pitching, but it’s always been behind hitting.”
The Owlz are currently 2-5 in the Area III Southern Division, nearly three games behind Mooresville for the final playoff spot. Sosnoskie has been welcomed by the team, and his quick immersion may prove to be valuable as the Owlz continue to try to make a push in the standings. “These are a good bunch of guys,” Sosnoskie said. “They’re a lot of fun to play with.”
This game has been cancelled due to it only being a non-league game and numbers of players missing at beach for both teams.

I get the standings everyday, so no problem.8 teams in both divisions make the playoffs. Yes there is only 9 teams in the Northern, last year there was 10, but Yadkinville dropped out this year. There was some discussion about Greensboro coming back, so I think that is why no teams from the Southern moving over, but Greensboro did not materialize. Probably should be some adjustments next year if no new teams come in.

Oh ok. One more question. Once the playoffs start, Will it be the #1 seed from the north division vs the #8 from the north division, #2 from the north vs #7 from the north, etc. in the first round?
Or do the north and the south teams cross over and play one another in the first or second round of the playoffs.
1st & 2nd round north vs north, south vs south, then crossover starts I think w/o checking my paperwork.

Alright, thanks again tools I really appreciate all the help. Us High Point folk haven't needed to be very familiar with the playoff format in years past haha, after our 3-21 season last year.
The boys are 7-4 this year though and look to finish right around the middle of the pack in the northern division. So we're pretty excited about legion ball for a change.

Yeah we've picked up some real solid players that come from winning high school programs. That's been a big help to create more of a winning attitude on the team.
Also, we were relatively young last year and everyone is just a year older, more experienced, and stronger.

who is the kid that hits leadoff for kannapolis? I've seen him play against rowan twice this year and the kid can really play...Honeycutt is his name if I remember correctly...just curious about him and where he might be playing college ball at?

Definitely Cy Young against Lexington tonight. Linza pitch last time at Lexington. Rowan had command of the game early as they built a 8-2 lead going into the sixth. For some reason, Linza left the game and was spelled by Lee Dupree who shutout Lexington until the ninth inning. Corbin Shive was brought in to pitch the ninth and was shelled by Lexington hitters. He only lasted 1/3 of an inning and Lexington went on to win in extra innings 9-8.
Young is Rowan's best pitcher right now, so we will see what happens. There will be a massive crowd at Newman Park tonight. Get there early.

Dupree gave up a homer to the first batter he faced, but that was it. Dupree struck out 12 Lexington batters in 5 1/3 innings including the sides in the 8th and 9th to finish the game.
Micah Jarrett, Jason Ridenhour, and Weston Church all had 3 hits for Rowan. Church had the go ahead 3 run home run in the 8th.

Personally I don't see this win as a 'statement game'. At least for me, I already knew that Rowan was tough tough tough. It's all about pitching, & nobody has a more loaded staff. Offense & defense are solid, but pitching is what separates Rowan. All other Area III teams are competing for 2nd.
I agree Rowan will be tough to beat in a playoff series because they can trot a different college-caliber starting pitcher out there about 5 nights in a row. Stanly and Lexington are still capable, but both teams have lost players that would've helped greatly. Still with those 3, won't be no surprises with me.

Good point and agree especially on the pitching but think it was statement in sense showed Rowan could come back with backs against wall - against a good team that had beaten them earlier this year - ditto for Dupre in relief coming into that situation, giving up bomb, and then working out of inning and shutting them down rest of way.

Legionfan, in that context Rowan made a loud statement. I guess I was originally trying to say that Lexington fans already had huge admiration for Rowan's 07 cog in their ongoing Legion machine. Even when Lex won, we considered that game to be more about us winning than Rowan losing. It's always a happy day when you beat RC. That is respect.

I think it was because I wasn't there. :bike:
Braves, from there the easiest way is probably to jump on Tryon Rd. and ride that to 70 E (you'll turn right on 70 E)... From 70 E you should be able to find it. You can turn right on Timber Drive (White Oak Shopping Center), then take a left on Spring Dr. (I think that's it... it's at a stop right past the shopping center) and you'll go around a sharp curve... Turn right into the parking lot and baseball field is down there.
You might want to mapquest it just to be sure, but that's the way I go. I live here in Cary right near Kildaire Rd.
But I take Walnut St out through the Crossroads Shopping Center, then take a left on Tryon. Let me know if you think you'll go. Weather looks like it could kick up a storm a bit later. I'll probably be there for atleast the first couple of innings... Garner is struggling bigtime this season. Lots of sore arms/injuries.

Tuesday is later in the week...lol. Actually the Stanly-Mocksville game will be tomorrow at 7pm. I was fed bad info...was told it was Thursday :gossip:
The way I see it...Mocksville moved into 3rd last night because of sweeping South and beating Stanly once already (all 3 with 5 losses). Mocksville will have to win both games to keep a lock on 3rd. The only way Lexington would drop out of 2nd would be to lose 2 of 3 of their games. Only 1 loss would not drop them because they have the trump card of beating Rowan earlier in the season.
So is that the way it all shakes out?

Any word yet on the South Rowan/Stanly County final score tonight? I have that game and tomorrow's (Thursday July 5) makeup with Statesville at Kannapolis as the final regular season games in Area 3. Right?
South Rowan wins 10 to 7.
Btw, I must give both Mocksville and South Rowan props for finishing 2-3 in the Southern Division standings. I was adamant about the top 3 being Rowan, Stanly County and Lexington this summer,,, but things just didn't work out for Lexington and Stanly as well as I would've thought. Obviously both teams lost key players who would've made a difference, but even though I had Mocksville and South Rowan picked in the 4,5,6 range,,,, I gotta give those 2 credit for having great regular seasons.
Now, the fun part, the playoffs start and obviously Rowan is the favorite in the South, but which Area 3 team will join Rowan at the state tournament. Look for Randolph County to be that 2nd Area 3 team... :munching_out:

Sorry if that informatin is incorrect....this was the information that was provided last night at the All-Star game....I'm just going on what I heard there and I thought that was the official but if Winston Salem did indeed win then they are playing Randolph County instead of Western Forsyth

I do not quite understand why every other tie is broken by runs given up & the 8th place has to play it off, that is why everyone was reporting Western was in. We had WS by 18 runs. But it was won on the field they move on.
