On the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I'm really happy with the way the Locomotive Pics turned out. As always Comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

cool. the 1st locomotive shot looks really cool. almost like a postcard or something. i like some of your macro shots of the mustang, too. some worked better than others. nice shots.

I had a monopod with me, but didn't pull it out until I tried the 1 sec. exposures. there was a rock wall there and I just rested my elbows on it for the half second and shorter exposures.

good metering inside the log cabin, too.

Thanks. I'm about halfway through "Understanding Exposure" and trying to work more in Manual mode and concnetrate on metering. Still, I got frustrated by the end of the day and switched back to Av, and Tv. I'm sure it's just a matter of needing more practice though.

Thanks. I had been toying around with shots of shallow DoF shots one afternoon and taken a picture of my truck's grille. While the shot itself wasn't that great, it gave me some ideas that I wanted to try out. I agree though, some turned out better than others. There were cars in the spaces on each side of the car when I was doing that, so I didnt have quite as much room as I would've liked to move around - but it was fun to practice.

Thanks again for the comments :)

Nice shots.

The tripod will come in handy, but the technique you used is one I've used many times. I'll even set the camera on the rocks or whatever is handy when I don't have a tripod.

Learning the relationship between f stops and shutter speeds is a good thing. Here're a couple of exposure tips that have always worked for me:
1. Meter off the grass in the same light as your subject.
2. Meter off your hand. One school of thought says then open up a stop, or close down depending on skin color. I don't do it though, I just take whatever the reading off my hand says and go from there. It has always worked well for me.
3. Remember 18% gray (like on a gray card) and choose something close to meter off of. The logs on that cabin would work. With a digital, it is way easier to get in the ballpark than with film.

FWIW and only for me, I'd like to see a little more in the zone of focus in those Mustang emblem shots. Maybe f8 - f11 for a little more depth of field. But that's just me. If they float your boat, that's all that matters.

oh HELL no. There's WAY too much pressure and psycho brides and their mommas for me to be getting into that nonsense. Mess up some gal's reception photos and the cake wont be the only thing getting cut that night.

Wow, that Mustang brings back some memories, first car I ever had was a 67 Mustang 3 speed with a slant 6 engine. A classic. I had it for 3 years, then wrapped it around a tree 3 days before I was supposed to get a new car. Nice pics.

a slant six was a plymouth or dodge engine. fords had an ordinary in-line six.

google it for verification.
