you're right about losing our big gun, I would have loved to see him pitched one more year for the 29ers. BUT even without Bumgarner we still have a great team that will make a run for the state title. They are hard to come by, so we just have to wait and see what happens. Should be a good summer of baseball.....Good luck to you

I would like for Caldwell County to get a fair shake one time when they visit Cherryville, all the years they have been coming to Cherryville I've never seen a evenly called game. Cherryville has to be the crooked bunch I personally have ever witness in all the years I've been following baseball. I was just wondering do you guy's set up every team like that or just Caldwell County. Umpires, state officials, the whole works I have to say you guys have got it going on in the politics arena.

Carolina Man

I have a feeling YOU haven't ever seen many evenly called games in which Caldwell County was on the losing end. I realize that C'ville has dealt Caldwell the majority of their losses over the past 8-10 years so that does add some validity to your statment. I've read some rediculous statements that you have posted in here, but this one has to be one of the most asinine that I have seen. Usually you wait until after a series is over to come up with excuses.

And just so you don't have to go find a dictionary:
as·i·nine-adjective foolish, unintelligent, or silly; stupid

Not nearly as long as the 16 minutes it took you to post and edit your comment before you felt it was just right. Like I said, I am sure things would appear that way when somebody "has your number" like C'ville has had Caldwell County's over the years. I only hope that every game of this series ends like the 2 they've already played this year, with the winning team leaving no doubt. Whether the winner is C'ville or Caldwell there is nothing worse than somebody that blames the umpire for a loss. Personally I've never seen an umpire strike out or get a hit. If they missed one or 2 calls, they got 26 right.

we forget at times. So how bout a little history lesson from my side. 2000 state tournament at Caldwale post 100 player is suspended by the state director for something that the umpire did not even throw him out for? (hmmm that sure is fishy) Cherryville pulls off the hidden ball trick against ya and yall protest after the game and get to go back and finish it later. (protest are supposed to be made before the next play except in the case of illegal players) This may be where things turned between yall and the area director- (who is from Caldwell) 2003 at Cherryville it begins to rain in the 4th inning and yall are trailing so what do ya do but attempt to stall for the rain. The commish after being called out of the press box by your coach in front of everyon with this statement. "Bill you got to do something about this" The commisioner did go to your teams dug out and had it out with your coach. 1) Your catcher should have been thrown out in 2000 for slinging the bat against the back stop. The umpire had his head turned or he was afraid to call it I don't know, but the officials in the press box seen it and made the call and it was the right call

2) The game played on in 2003 only because Cherryville was winning and wanted to hurry and get the game in. The game should have been called. I have never seen a baseball game being played with that much thunder and lightning on a ballfield

3) In 2005 after Caldwell protested the 2004 State Title game ( caldwell won the protest by the way ) when Caldwell played two games and out of the tournament at Cherryville, the umpire behind the plate was the same umpire in both games we played and he was from Garner, he destroyed us from behind the plate and there is no doubt in my mind that we were set up because of that protest. The powers to be made sure that Caldwell was not going to advance. Don't want to take anything away from the teams that did beat Caldwell, they may have beat us anyway, but the Garner umpire behind the plate made dang sure Caldwell would not win these games. Alex Fairweather pitched the first game... some of the calls he made against Fairweather was unreal. You tell me how did Caldwell get the same umpire in both games, behind the plate and he's from Garner...too fishy for me...what better place to set up a ambush on Caldwell than Cherryville .....I could go on but I got work to do

Cherryville probably is the most talked about team because of its players and coach in legion history.... and most see the negative side. But most of the time it is just jelousy talking.... If in your mind the bat throwing was enough for a suspension then of course a catcher bumping another player from another team should be. But this was not the case this year when your catcher bumped our third baseman after a walk was issued and words were exchanged.... sometimes you have to use judgement and in this case that was good judgment. In the 2000 case it was not good judgment.

2) Your commisioner did not step in and stop the game. The ump stated it was the most bush league thing he had ever seen when the team attempted to stall. And you never did admit to stalling.... well did you or did you not stall. Bottom of the third your pitcher was thowing softball practice six feet out side to all the batters.... cmon now admit it.....

Caldwell did not make any errors tonight after playing probably the worst defensive game this year during Game 1. Andrew Berry pitched a gem tonight and is really pitching great lately. He is a great guy and I'm very happy for him.

Cherryville is a great team and Chris Henderson is definitely one of the best pitchers anywhere but Caldwell beat themselves Game 1. Errors are part of the game and credit Cherryville for taking advantage of the situation like any good team will do.

What is up with the home field advantage this year? Every time Caldwell and Cherryville play each other they lose at home and win on the road. Maybe Caldwell should have lost that coin flip in hindsite. Caldwell loses at home 11-0 game 1 during the regular season and comes back and wins 8-0 in Cherryville. In the playoffs Caldwell loses Game 1 6-3 and comes back and wins 15-0 on the road. Who would ever think Cherryville would be outscored 23-0 on their home field in 2 games?

Great job by coach Hamby and the rest of the 29 coaches to get the team picked back up after a very disappointing performance in Game 1. Maybe Cherryville took Caldwell for granted after being able to win against Messer who was 21-0 on the year (although he certainly pitched well enough to win). I know Coach Hamby will be aware that we could easily come in and not be focused tomorrow night and will be reminding his team about this. Likewise, Bobby Dale will have a fire lit under his guys after being embarrassed.

one negative ill say is i know umpiring is very tough but i think it is a shame that pitchers have to pitch with an umpire like we had tonite. he gave cherryville just as hard a time as caldwell. had one of those gallon bucket sized strike zones. called really good pitches balls all nite on both pitchers. just my opinion but if i knew he was behind the plate i really dont think i would go. just seems like he wanted to really be the center of everything with all the attenion on him. been going to legion games for 40 years and i cant stand that type of ump. imho at this point in the season and at this level there has to be someone better availible.

Congratulations to Cherryville on not packing it in after last night's performance. I noticed a different demeanor with Cherryville in the warmups tonight and batting practice. There were no smiles on anyone's face and they were all business.

Now let's see if Caldwell can likewise bounce back like Cherryville did. Once again I can't understand why teams can't win at home. There have now been 5 games played between the 2 teams and the home team is 0-5. For Caldwell's sake let's hope that the trend doesn't end tomorrow.

Once again another big crowd at MS Deal in Granite Falls tonight. There was well over $1200 in the half and half tonight with the winner taking in over $600. Too bad I didn't win it because it would have helped relieve the pain of this loss.

I sat right behind the plate and while there were definitely some inconsistencies, pitchers were not having to groove the ball, most of the night they were getting 6" off and 3" in. You must hit your spots, work ahead and stay ahead in the count, that is something we did not do, in addition to not getting some timely hitting, and making a few mistakes in the field. Of course it always helps when calls go your way, and that is something that didn't happen either.

Pivotal point in the Game was in the seventh with one out and the 20whiners on 2nd and 3rd Watts strikes out Severt and gets a ground ball to get out of the inning. I reckon the mouth got a little dry and the ol guts were churning when it got tight for the 20whiners..........................

Last night game consisted of Eddie Taylor at 3rd, Charlie Henry at 1st, and Scott Stilwell on the plate. That is what was said at the start of the game. I thought it was a good game and called equal for both sides but the 29ers had some errors and left a small village on the base pads. Good luck to both teams the last two games.

I listened to the broadcast on www.hrnb.com last night and followed along with the Gametracker on www.cstv.com. Next best thing to being there in person I guess.

Cherryville took a 7-0 lead after three innings, and Albany never got any closer than within six runs.

Henderson got the win, and also had two hits and two RBI.
Houser had three hits and three RBI.
Hoyle closed out the game on the mound.

hard to argue with the local Albany paper, but all the teams have one loss and it looks like by the bracket system that means Columbia gets the bye meaning they get the winner of Cherryville vs Puerto Rico. shelby star says same thing this morning.

You are correct LegionFan. Let's hope the Cherryville bats are hot all day long, because they may be a little short on pitching? Of course, maybe the other teams are also.
