I think Foxman was onto something yesterday with his "picture of the Day" idea. Thought it might be easier if we had a new thread for each day. I thought it might be cool if each day we had a "theme" too. Perhaps with the 4th being tomorrow a good theme for today might be fireworks. Here's my attempt. Comments, critiques are always welcome.

How did you get that shot from not getting blurry. Did you have a tripod?

no, it was handheld (and as you can see from the lights at the bottom - not perfectly). I just tried to be as still as possible, lock my elbows in, etc.
I'll be using a tripod tomorrow night though (along with bulb mode).
Edit: I just went back at looked at the EXIF info on that image... it was a 2.5s exposure. I honestly don't know how it came out that crisp.

Cool. Good shot. (i am a novice) Why bulb mode?

If you've got a tripod, you can just open your shutter and keep the exposure open to capture multiple fireworks in one frame. Bulb mode just lets you close the shutter whenever you want (as opposed to just taking a set amout of time exposure).

Got ya. I was thinking 'flash' when you said 'bulb'. Cool.

nah. bulb mode essentially means you press the shutter button once to open the shutter and a second time to close it.

I like the different effects in the two images (from what I assume are similar fireworks). Judging from the length of the fireworks, I'm assuming the same shutter speed was used in both - how did you achieve the different effects?

no filter?
no filter?
no filter. i have a circular polarizer, but i only use it for specific situations -- like eliminating glare, bringing out cloud detail or greening a landscape. 1 of every 400 images.
