I went up to Upstate NY for a family reunion last weekend and had the chance to ride on the New Jersey & Delaware Turnpikes. Its been years since I've driven up I-95 north of the Mason-Dixon line. Lots of construction going on in Northern Virgina & Baltimore. Hundreds of millions of dollars were spent rebuilding the I-495/I-95/I-395 Interchange in Springfield, VA (looks like something that was built in LA . . Makes our I-485/I-77 interchange look like a midget!!!!) and work is starting on a $1 billion makeover of the I-695/I-95 northeast of Baltimore (which will include 10 miles of toll lanes to help move rush hour traffic)**. At the Medowlands at Exit 16W on the Jersey Turnpike, I saw construction work on the new Xanadau Mall (from the folks who built Concord Mills here) and the new Giants/Jets Stadium.

**Could you ever see the NCDOT spending so much road money on 1 project here in the Charlotte area at one time? I'm sure some day it will happen   ? ? ?

**NOTE-In the last photo is the Delware Turnpike Rest Area. Back in the day as a kid I remember a photo being posted in the main building that showed Presidnet JFK cutting the ribbon on the newest section of I-95 back in 1963 . . . 1 week before he got the back of his head blown off in Dallas!!! I wish they still had that photo up :( :( . . .

Without tolls, there will never be anything like that in NC. They will spend 20 Billion dollars building 4 lane freeways covering every square inch of the area east of 95 before they build anything useful like that.
