Wow, very young and talented team. I noticed 2 freshmen and a sophomore. The question is who is the sophomore setter? She may have the best hands I have ever seen....very smooth. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, it is the soph number 9 that I was talking about (I know that butler is the star) but if you watch that young lady (9) you can tell she either was born with it or has had some great instruction. Guess I was wondering where she came from? We only saw WHS once this year and the youth on that team is scary.

went back to that roster ...
#9 Bailey Hagaman, sophomore R/S
maybe some of the watauga folks can tell you more.

Don't remember #9. Butler, was player of the year last year and I heard from a very reliable source that she would more than likely be again this year. Those will be tough shoes to fill next year. I do not know of any other young talent on that team and I do not remember any of their names. My bet is that watauga will have a tough road next couple of years. I was at their senior night and that was most of their team leaving.

why are we talking about next year when we have not yet finished this year? WATAUGA is still in the playoffs.
This makes me :barf2:!

To the op: we saw WHS once this year and I watched them another time in Boone. You are right in the fact that #9 is fundamentally sound but I don't know anything about her other than she is a soph. Maybe she was a transfer? I am sure somebody from Watauga can answer it. Anyway, good luck to Watauga as they continue on..............

To Viper and Countryday. With only 2 and 1 post respectively, it sounds like someone is trying to promote their own kid. That's cool, but let's just be open about it.

please stop, you guys are killing me.:roflmao:
Let's get serious people, There are some really talented players coming up...jv had a great season and there are still some girls left on the varsity team that are not graduating. We will have six to leave after the season is over.
It is a little curious to me that the first poster claimed that there are two freshmen on the team. The roster does not reflect this as one freshmen, Anna Church was moved to the Varsity team later in the season. I guess that means that the poster has to be from our team, how else would they have known that?
Maybe the girls do well because of the coaching. OUR coach has been Coach of the Year. Even if it were natural born talent it would be enhanced.
My bet is that Watauga will have another great season next year too.

WHS is always good in volleyball. We lost 7-8 seniors my senior year including a POY and still reloaded and won conference the next. #9 Hagaman is is talented of a setter that will come to WHS. Her middle school coach Mary Jo Forde and our current WHS staff have taught her well, along with some good natural talent as well.

So we're talking about a middle school player? No wonder I didn't know who she was.

No, she is on the varsity team. Check out the roster, it is posted above.
I think he was saying that Mary Jo and the current HS coaches, Kim Pryor and Pam Cook, had a hand in her training and that they always have a great team.

thanks, ultimate question was going to be is there a common club team or coach the setters come from?
mitchellp

Yes, the common coaches are KIM PRYOR and PAM COOK.
Coach of the Year more than once and Pam Cook who has had several excellent seasons!! This years JV went undefeated all season. :worshippy:
Watauga has one of the best volleybal programs in the 4-a nw area, girls seem to be dedicated, and great coaching too, its make me mad that some coaches still saying that club volleybal is a waste of time, I know of one in particular.

vbdad, Any high school coach who says club volleyball is a waste of time in my opinion is wrong and being selfish!!
Here at all our schools (highschool & middle schools) it is highly encouraged!! I can tell you for a FACT the Person Rockets run in the state 4A playoffs the last 4 years is a direct result of all our girls playing club ball. I was trying to count just last night and our girls all play club ball for at least 5 different clubs! As a matter of fact thats the way I got into coaching club ball because I was recruited by our previous head coach to help and try to develope players at a young age in our area. And it has paid off big time here in Roxboro/Person County.

Wataga getting swept by Meyers Park shouldn't surprise anyone. The SW4A is the toughest conference in the state. Ardrey Kell went 7-7 in conference and beat AC in five, and I was at that game, Ardrey Kell did not play well at all.
It's too bad that the NCHSAA doesn't mix up the seeding, then we could really get a good look at the power of conferences. The top five SW4A teams only got beat by each other in the State (Butler beat AK and Weddington, Myers Park beat Providence and Butler). Until last night. Congrats to Mt. Tabor. Thoughts?

it's not just the SW4A ... there are probably some other conferences that are stronger than other conferences from top to bottom. good example this year might be 3A north piedmont (home of north iredell).
like you i wouldn't mind seeing some mix-n-match ... even between east-west. several years ago the west final was providence - west charlotte at west charlotte. this was a classic battle between zoe bell coached providence and howard barnhill coached west charlotte. finally west charlotte prevailed ... took 5 close, hard fought games. that match should have been for state championship ... but west charlotte had to wait a few days before they took the east team 3-0.
