Official Question (Playable Area)

Help all you officials out there....at our game Saturday the offical had the administration move some spectators near the back of the gym near the door. Is the playable are (per the official) anywhere that could possibly be involved in a play or is this more to keep fans from being unruly?

There should be a minimum of 6 feet on each end of the court for service area (most facilities try to accomodate 10 feet, when available - think jump serve). But much of that winds up being officials discretion and how he/she sees there could be possible interference of play, as well as, likelyhood of injury.
