Statewide tourney in August?

I've been hearing some rumors from people at Butler High (Charlotte) that some in the SW4A want to have a big statewide tournament in August before League play kicks in (to avoid all the ridiculous NCHSAA rules and restrictions). What do ya'll think? If the NCHSAA won't let east meet west, I think it'd be cool to see 48 or so top 2A, 3A, and 4A teams get a chance to take shots at teams outside of their zip code. Then we'd really find out the strong conferences.

wasn't there a similar tourney in years past?

the big eight ... or great eight ... or something like that.

seems like i remember a tourney like that ... and often that tourney would attract 2 or 3 of the previous year's champions.

sounds good to me though ... would be fun to see that!

Yeah, they have the "Great Eight" that is basically a repeat of the prior year's state championships from 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A. But it doesn't really play out like a big tourney of lots of high caliber teams would.
