This is just a general observation for all the sports that have a 64-team state playoff...In the 4A Classification there are a ton of split-class conferences and only 5 total Wild Card berths (3 West, 2 East)...
First off it will be much harder now in the 4A bracket to qualify as a Wild Card in sports like soccer, volleyball and maybe even basketball. Yet you may have a second place team in one of the conferences automatically in (and hosting games) with a significantly lower record...
It all makes you wonder if the NCHSAA outta look into a different way of selecting playoff teams in all sports.
