View Full Version : I'm a fatass!

I used to be able to pinch an inch, and now it's like pinch a foot. According to my optimum weight, I'm only 20 lbs overweight for somebody 6'5, but I feel like I'm 50 lbs overweight. I'm stretching to get in my size 36 pants.

I still work out, but my diet is shit. I eat only junk, I drink a gallon of coke a week, and about 3 times that much beer. Without cutting out everything at once, what should I concentrate on, the soft drinks, the food, or the beer? I'm about ready and willing to quit drinking at least on Thursdays and just drink one night a weekend. My willpower is nothing.

I suck.

How hard is that Atkins thing? If I could cut out bread and french fries, that pretty much eliminates all the carbs from my diet except for beer.

Silver, don't cut out the beer.

Atkins is easy, once you get past the two weeks. Buy/borrow the book and read it first. There is so much talked about the diet that is heresy based on ignorance that you need to read it to clear up the misinformation. I didn't read it until after the first week, I had been doing a lot wrong.

I drank beer while I was on it... the only problem with alcohal while on the diet is that your body burns the alcohal for energy before it burns fat...so you'll still lose weight, just not as fast.

Once you start looking at the carb content of foods and beverages, you'll see the ridiculous amount of carbs there are in regular soft drinks....definately switch to diet coke.

Buy some relaxed fit pants at Walmart. 34 would do nicely and if you want to show off your tight buttocks then you may want to try a 32.

Bread and Coke is probably the culprit. :)

Drop the soft drinks, switch to Mich Ultra low carb beer, drink at least 6 bottles of water a day, take 2 Hydroxycut pills twice a day to replace the caffine you will be missing, watch your appitite fade.

Cut DOWN on the beer. Silver, when I first began cardiac rehab, the Heart Center's food expert suggested to everyone to do the 3-lap rule over the holidays. It sounded stupid but in reality makes sense.

Lap 1 - Walk around the table and just look at the food. (The family will think you've gone crazy if you do this, so I'd suggest just doing the quick scan around the table.)

Lap 2 - Go for just the salads and veggies on the table (the healthier foods).

Lap 3 - The plate should be covererd with the better foods for you, leaving just a bit of space for the meat and the items that are not so good for you.

Don't cut outNo seconds, thirds, etc. And most of all, when finished eating, don't sit at the table and talk. Go to another room. If you're chit-chatting at the table, you'll be tempted to nibble on the foods in front of you.

And it's not wrong to eat foods that are "special" at this time of year. Moderation, cut back on something else and eat that fruit cake. It works!

I think it's gonna be harder to cut out the soft drinks than the beer. I HATE diet drinks, I switched to them one time for 2 YEARS and still never got used to the nasty taste. And I HATE drinking lots of water every day. If I get a huge glass of it, it just sits there. If I try to guzzle it, it makes me nauseous.

Thanks for the tip on the soft drinks though. I didn't realize that soft drinks had carbs period.

And no matter how hungry I am, I'll never eat fruit cake. That has to be the nastiest stuff on the face of the earth.

HP, I'll try your method. I have to start now. Everybody last year said, oh wait til after the Holidays. I started last November and lost 10 lbs by the end of December. In February was when I started gaining it back.

Doesn't that flavored water have a lot of calories? Seems like I tried that one time and it had about as much calories as a soft drink.

Gatorade has lots of carbs. Aquafina makes a pretty tasty flavored water. I love water - drink at least a gallon a day - so it doesn't bother me. I don't drink much else.

Just remember, sugar = carbs. Anything sweet, even a carrot, has carbs. Soft drinks are horrible for you.

the latest theories are that certain carbs, like proteins, are more complete. For example, gellatin has protein in it, but it comes from one or two amino acids....eggs protein has all of the amino acids.

the latest thought is to stay away from "processed" carbs like sugar, white bread, etc. You are allowed to eat whole wheat bread and other unprocessed carb sources like vegatables. From what I've read, the processed carbs are easily converted into fat while the unprocessed are not.

that means the carbs in beer are good carbs.:D

Not hard. You eat well, you can eat out, you can basically still get your tailgate on like nothing changed, it's just the beer and all that. I still drank sweet tea when I was out, exercised when I could, and it started coming off pretty good. Helps to have someone doing it with you, but the Mrs. looks to be in good shape. :D

Silver, it's all about the EXERCISE. You get any?
And stay away from fast foods. Cut down on salts.

I'm still pretty good about exercising. I get in an hour at least 4 days a week, cardio 2 days and weight trainng 2 days, or I'll mix it up, some times cardio 3 days and weights 1, sometimes 3 days weights, 1 cardio. I try to vary my routine so I don't get bored.

The wife runs, but I can't do that as it kills my knees. I have to use the elliptical trainer or the treadmill, the trainer is the best because even running on the treadmill still hurts my knees.

Anyway, it's basically all about the diet for me. I know I've been abusing myself, it's just time to quit. Or at least not so much.
