View Full Version : Your Alias (part 1)

Dave Newman

Where did it come from?

Right before I left town, I recall that our good friend Mr. Meatpile revealed that he's got an affinity for taking the lives of fellow board members and then frolicking in heaps of their shredded flesh.

(...Isn't sharing fun?) :D

What is the origination of your nickname?

My Army nick was wolf due to my propensity for marking my territory. I got it for urinating in the air conditioning vents of our Platoon Leaders car. He was a prick who didn't know his ass from his elbow, and as a result put a few of us in base hospital due to foot probs.

I pissed in his air con vents. Every time he turned on the air con, he got the fragrant smell of kiwiwolf...

It's a nick name given to me by some SUBA diving buddies while we were in the Bahamas on new years... needless to say I don’t really remember all the detail while we were in Bimini to new years eve.

Ummmmm, hrmmm I guess it's because I'm big, and I'm ummm Mark, or somethin.

Actually, I used to be a counselor at at summer camp. There was another counselor named Mark, so to differeintiate, it was Big Mark and Little Mark, I still run into my kids, and I guess it just stuck.

Does it hurt when you run into your kids, since they're all grown up?

I got mine from some college buddies. We were working on a film fomr technical writing that had a bunch of parodies and references in it that no one got, but the idea was business practices in Sweden. So I started fabricating a swedish accent in a really deep voice. Then at one point we had to move a table and I just picked it up. They thought that was something else, for some reason, and blahblahblah strongest man tournaments, swedish strongman (Mags is icelandic, but hey so is Björk), and so on until they wouldn't stop fucking calling me Magnus. Going out to eat, passing in the halls, on the way to class, asking for me by that name on the phone, they liked it and I didn't but if I showed it they'd have done it worse.

So after doing the goober thing and signing up at a few boards by my login name I tossed around a name or two and then finally went with this one. That was in 98 and I wanted to change soon after but by then I was already being a brash asshole who made too much sense so I had to grin and bear it and just become the super-famous hasbeen newsman that I am/was/should be.

Actually, they were pretty much grown up when they were my kids. It was only a few years ago, but most of them were 16 at the time. does it hurt? nah, I'm big. It only hurts when I run into crazy old ladies in Camrys.

Mine... my first name is Brian... and WAY too many people spell it Brain... what's saddest are these are educated people... I've had college professors do it... 75% of the mail I get goes to Brain  ...So I just went with it... for a little while I did the whole "Pinky and The Brain" cartoon thing... but it got old and I've since moved on... I just hate it when people start thinking I'm an arrogant prick without getting a chance to get to know the TRUE arrogant prick that I really am. :D :D

Grew up at Wrightsville Beach / Wilmington. My buddies called me that during the summer... seems we would all go down to Red Dogs or the Palm room, some of us would take willing young ladies for a 200 yard walk east, which put you on the sand and hopefully a near by beached hobie cat. Well anyway, at the end of the night or the next day when we all hooked up, I almost always still had feet lightly dusted with sand, so they would say...

McFly41
03-11-02, 05:40 PM
McFly was a name placed upon me my freshman year of college. A local TV station was previewing our FB team and showed a clip of me falling on my ass trying to cover a out & go. The guy I was covering caught the pass and ran back to me and knocked on my helmet. While watching the telecast, our punter (team clown) quoted the line from Back to the Future "Hello, McFly" as a mock of my last name, McShane.
The #41 is my number of choice on jerseys and such, always worn it. It is in memory of Brian Piccolo and in small part out of respect to my favorite Iowa Hawkeye ever, Bobby Stoops.
Most of my friends just call me Mick these days.
If you ever see a Panthers Jersey with #41 in the crowd, it is likely it will say McFly on the back...IF I ever make it down there for a game!?

Uh... no, not really.

Actually, it's a name I used for on-line gaming. Pretty much guaranteed of not running into another "superfluous_nut" in Quake2 or Unreal Tournament. When I was younger I used the alias "Arioch" on local Computer BBS's but when I went to college there were so many people that used that very alias (it's a character from a book) that I learned you'd better be a little more unique if you intend to keep an alias.

When I first logged into the Charlotte Forum, it was because Eddie Jones was just traded here from the Lakers. Being a fan, I wanted to follow his career and used the name "ejfan" when posting. After he left, I lost interest in his career (because he was a very money-oriented athlete it seemed). When the old forum went down, I decided to change my handle to SN because it's something I used in other forums. Also, I didn't want people to think I was and Elton John fan. :)
