View Full Version : us working to develop "lightning weapon"
An energy weapon powerful enough to fry computer equipment could be tried out by the Pentagon in a war against Iraq (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/2679835.stm)

That's a cool concept. I like the fact that a non-lethal weapon could be used in a war.
Could you imagine if this weapon was used against the U.S.? When our company e-mail server goes down, most people walk around complaining that they can't work.

A good old fashioned EMP burst would do the trick more than likely. Saddam more than likely doesn't have the top of the line "hardened" stuff. Personally, I'd like to see them test out those bigger and better Daisy Cutters on the fucker. You never can get your hands on a Neutron bomb when you really need one.
These weapons are particularly attractive as they could be used against suspected chemical or biological facilities in Iraq, without the danger of releasing dangerous toxins into the air.
Unless of course the missile hit some storage tanks.
Using this in Iraq seems pretty safe but this could be a deadly weapon.
Use a couple of these in Florida and you'd wipe out half of the retirement population. All those pacemakers would stop.

That kind of weapon would be very useful over the skies of Baghdad. Take out the SCUDs without vaporizing civillians. It would also be useful in taking out comm centers. It fits with our goal of zero collateral damage.

Popular Mechanics magazine ran an article a few months ago about how easy such a device is to build. They had cut out pictures included that pretty much showed how to build a device. I am surprised a couple didnt go off on 9/11/01. They are pretty much conventional in nature and the electronic pulse fries anything electronic.

This weapon would be used on his chemical weapons so it would fry the electrionica on them and he would be able to use them on troops or his on people. Really a good weapon to have.
