Yeah, it's like PMSing for men.

Seriously, I imagine it's like quitting smoking.

SilverSurfer

Hell I'm always irritable when I can't drink, or at least when I'm not SUPPOSED to drink. That's why I wouldn't do it.

What week are you on? If you just started you shouldn't be drinking at all.

Marielle

By the way, going on it after you went off it is THE hardest thing to do.

Yup Larry - what you're feeling is normal. When I was on Atkins, the first few weeks were the hardest - I felt oddly `out of sorts', and not quite depressed - but yes, irritable, headachy and a tad on the wobbly side. :( According to Atkins - this is worst when you're at the beginning and your body is getting used to the no carb thing...hang in there matey! :)

Addiction to unnatural sugars and carbs are very much akin (hehehe) to heroin I hear. It's at least comparable to smoking. You won't feel yourself for a while, but once you cut that shit out of your diet and caffeine too, you'll be surprised how much more alert you feel and how easy it is to get out of bed when the alarm goes off. I also found it much easier to fall asleep when I wanted to instead of when I needed to.

you wanna talk about irritable, try 3 days without dick, a stomach virus, not being able to use your computer without a million pop ups coming up, 3 of your smoke detectors in your house chirping even tho you just put in new batteries, all of your animals wanting attention at the same time, some asshole that thinks it's funny to call your house and breathe into the phone (and caller id shows them as "number unknown") and having the strong desire to climb a tower with a rifle and hurt some people!

I tried if for two weeks. I lost 13 pounds....

I would shake uncontrolably, stayed dizzy and I was ready to fight every MF that ate bread in front of me.

When I went off the diet, I ate 20 bread sticks and alfredo sauce from Olive Garden, Tour of Italy and a mouse pie and a tiremisu(sp). I kissed the waitress and left her $20 tip.

What saved me (gross as it may sound) was to order a double whopper from BK, take off the bread, take the beef patty from the bottom and put it over the toppings (minus tomato & ketchup). It was delish to a carb starved person.

Same with the phylly cheeseteaks (althought you could eat that with a fork).

You're right...I never did really use his diet anyways. I just thought what he said about the carbs and sugars and such made lots of sense so I modified what I was eating to reduce my carbs and sugars a lot.

Yeah well I cheat, I last about 12 days then I gotta have a sandwich. The damn resturants where we eat have been having fruit cobblers for desert and my damn soon to be exwife has been taunting. But I will survive. All I know is that when I hit 160 I'm going for a triple banana split.

Oh healthy things like pork rinds, steak, sauage, bacon, fatty stuff. Macadamia nuts are Aok walnuts are ok too. stay away from soy cheeses because they have sugar hidden in them. make sure you take a cal/mag/vitaminD supplement as you can't do dairy at all if you dont eat cheeses.

I'm not a fan of diets, but I'm not walking in some of your shoes either. There is no substitute for excercise, proper nutrition and rest, a life style change. I'll go away now.

Well atkins will take off 15-25 lbs quickly, keeping it off is the kicker. Once you start eating any carbs again the weight comes back quickly.

Lady Jane - if you are serious about losing 30 pounds and trying to keep it off then excercise will need to be part of the equation. If the Atkins diet gets you the energy to start exercising (as it did with Sly), then I say go for it. The first thing that you need to do is set a goal. Pounds, dress size, or both - I would say both, because you should be aiming to redistribute some of the weight. If you already feel that you have the energy, but you always come up with an excuse, get a buddy to excercise with you - that will help both of you get in the routine. My advice would be to go to a health club and tell them your goals, and they will help you come up with a good routine - make sure that they mix aerobic and toning exercises to keep you from getting bored. Another thing to try is to serve yourself smaller portions, then wait 10 minutes before going back for seconds. Generally you will find that you really are not hungry any more.

Thanks vp :) I have been exercising--and I wasn't before November...so I have a feeling some of the "weight gain" is actually muscle gain too. I do need to do it more consistently though. Thanks for the tips.

The reason that you're irritable is because your blood sugar is low.

It's called hypoglycemia, and it affects diabetics in the same manner when they don't eat for a long time, or take too much insulin.

The quick remedy for the mood swings is to eat something with carbohydrate in it, but then, you're back to square 1 and have to wait 48-72 hours before you go into ketosis again.

One way you can cheat, however, and eat some carbohydrate and get away with it is to exercise immediately after you eat it. Your body will burn it off and your sticks will continue to turn purple.

I lost 60 lbs in 5 months once on this diet. I don't follow it anymore, because I am diabetic and I am concerned about the strain it puts on one's kidneys.

I honestly believe to eat healthy and get the proper exercise and rest is all you need to do. To cut out entire food groups to me is not the best solution. I have heard many many people say they gained the weight back when they started eating carbs again. I know there are exceptions to everything. Sly is one of the best success stories I have personally heard from Atkins.

I am in the same boat with you Ladyjane, now if I can just practice what I preach!!! :D

If you go back to eating the way you did before ATkins and exercising the same why would you expect not to gain the weight back? While I am no longer on ATkins, I don't eat close to how I used to eat and I walk about 12 miles a week, run about 8 miles a week, play basketball for two hours straight once a week, and play softball once a week. That is more active than I have been in 10 years. Use Atkins to get you to a point where you can exercise regularly and then let the exercise take it from there.

Why are you always so argumentative? I said eating carbs again. I never said eating the same way you did before the diet. I never said exercising the way before the diet.

I tried to give you a compliment for your success.
