View Full Version : Who Are Some Of The Top Pitching Matchups

playme

Possibly....
Feb. 28 @ACHS ( Hollifield, Hall,Kinnard) vs Wilkes Central (Cogdell)
Mar. 04 @St.Stevens(Mathews) vs ACHS (Hollifield,Payne, Hall,Kinnard)
Mar. 25 @E.Burke(Yoder,Stewart) vs ACHS (Payne,Hollifield)
Mar. 28 @N.Forsyth(Larrimore,Hobson) VS ACHS (Payne,Hollifield, Hefner)
Apr. 04 @ACHS (Payne,Hollifield) vs Watauga(Leyshon,Nigro)
Apr. 08 @ACHS(Payne,Hollifield) vs S. Caldwell (Reid,Guerrero)

This is just a possible sampling of what is to come with ACHS; it is not a definite; just what could be...

What are some of the other matchups that could easily happen?

playme... The NW4A is a senior led conference with great pitching so you can predict some good matchups. Except for the SW4A this year and the Tri-7 over in Raliegh area, It looks like a lot of teams will be relying on underclassmen this season. (yes, it could be a long season for a LOT of teams). The NW4A breeds pitchers and they are already holding baseballs when they come out, but the rest of the state has to build them painfully, one season at a time. :D :D :D

Look at Arik Hempy up against the big Righty from Garner...A few games like that. There will be some good match-ups in South Charlotte when you get Wilson/Woodall at Myers Park up against Krimminger (Waddell), Pope/Vartanian (South Meck), Taffazoli/Collins (Providence), Burnham/Buchanan (East Meck) or the fire-balling Haushalter at Butler. Just about any game you go to down there will have the potential of having two college-signed pitchers facing off.

not sure where this game will fall in each teams rotation, but possibly Benton (Mt. Pleasant) vs. Pope (S. Meck). according to impact baseball each team is in the top ten in the state in their respective classification. should be a good one or at least i hope my boys can hang around for a little while.

I don't really understand the line "Arik Hempy up against the big right hander from Garner." I probably didn't quote that correctly, but I know I read it in the wrong manner. BEcause Arik Hempy is a Left hander that plays at Garner. I should know I'm on the team to.

Welcome aboard -

I said it's a long way to the east part of the state - guess I proved it:D :D :D

I know Arik is one of the top pitchers in the state - for some reason, I typed it backwards ....

What I was thinking was Hempy from Garner against Lee Land from Riverside. Land is a beast also.

Please fill us in on the happening around Raleigh. We would love to hear about the great players up there and how the teams look....

on 4/22 McDowell at West Henderson. Could be Taylor/McDowell vs Pridmore (all state 12-1 last yr) West Henderson. Though last year West Henderson beat them with #2 Cory Rose who finished the season 7-0 as a junior.

4/25 Mathews, St.Stephens vs Payne, Hollifield; ACHS

good match up....ACHS was 1 of St. Stephens loses last season...

Expect a scout or two...

Shelby Easter tournament: 2nd game

Daniel Bard- Charlotte Christian vs Pope/ Vartainian/ Worrell- South Meck

If the pitching rotation allows the Benton @ Mt. Pleasant vs. Pope @ S. Meck matchup, the Mt. Pleasant vs. South Meck game is scheduled for 3/07 @ Mt. Pleasant.

do you think Bard throws against South or will he get saved for the championship possibly against East Meck. Either way its a good matchup:

Brad vs. Pope or Worrel

Bard vs. Buchanan or Burnham

I do not think the schedules will align for this, but I would love to see Woodard and Bard. Buddies, same fall team, both well respected.

I believe the decision has been made that Bard is throwing the 2nd game...against South. Of course, things can change, but as of right now, that's the plan

I'd pay yours and my way into that game Gonzo :D

It would be hard to match that game with Woodard and Tilly last year

Braves and Statefan -- Your sources may be better than mine, but a pretty reliable little birdie told me that Bard will pitch the first game of the Easter tournament against Shelby. Host team -- good team, don't think they want to "save" Bard to be pitching in the consolation bracket. If both Christian and South Meck win, looks like South will face Michael Najaka in the second game. I hear Najaka had a good outing yesterday in the scrimmage against Weddington (won by Christian 3-1).

I also hear Bard only threw at twilight yesterday in the pen --- didn't stop all the radar guns from clocking him, though. I also hear he is already hitting 90 -- and it is still February -- he is going to be really scary by mid-season.

Now..now..questioning my sources ..huh, Dodgerblue? :) I don't blame you; I question them myself sometimes.

But this particular tidbit came from the horses mouth. Now, Daniel is a fine young man and I don't think he would try to fool ol' Braves, but I used to think that way about Prepster and we all know he is willing to "sandbag".

Hmm..you may be on to something Dodger..some people might be trying to manipulate ol' Braves. I may have to resort to Dr. Methusda's Crystal ball and check up on Mr. Bard..can't start having my sources being questioned all year.

Lucas Dalton (Northwest Cabarrus) vs. Patrick Adams (West Rowan)

Both pitchers have been clocked at 90+, and are 2 of the top pitchers around the state (and Adams is only a junior at WR).

More than likely, the North Piedmont Conference championship will be decided in this game this spring...

Braves, you must be thinking of someone else, or else it was a typo. Because "lefty"???

Both Patrick "Adams" and Lucas Dalton are righthanders.

I think someone posted on this board that Steedley over at East Rowan wasn't pitching this year? Have you heard anything? I know he's committed to UNC-Charlotte.

Wufman
02-25-03, 01:37 PM
Spencer Steedley is a senior at East Rowan this spring. He has pitched in the past and he throws very well and throws hard too. He's also a first baseman who hits the ball very well WITH POWER (trust me). Unfortunately (or fortunately) he had major shoulder surgery just in the past month or so; therefore, he will NOT be pitching this spring. It is possible that he MAY pitch towards the end of American Legion season; however, as you previously stated, he has already either signed or (at least committed) to attend UNCC next year and play baseball. I'm sure the UNCC coach doesn't want Steedley to jeopardize his future, so I'd be very surprised to see Steedley pitching this summer. Nevertheless, the UNCC folks are happy to be getting Steedley because of his potential to pitch and his powerhitting.

East Rowan fans will only get to watch Steedley's bat during his senior season...

Oops...sorry, my mind must have been elsewhere..not difficult at my age. Patrick Allen is a friend and his name stuck to me, sorry Patrick Adams. I need to wipe that post out and start over :D

Was Lucas at the World Woodbat Tournament in Jupiter? I thought I watched him pitch down there. But in my Alzheimer days, I might be wrong...I do know, in the fall, he was attracting a lot of interest.

Someone else will have to answer about Lucas being at "that" specific camp,,, sorry I can't. But yes I would imagine that Lucas is drawing a sh**load of interest from college scouts. He will be one of the best pitchers in the state this spring, and at LEAST this immediate area.

I remember hearing that Brad Boob over at Butler got injured right at the end of football season. Didn't he pitch for Butler last year? Has anyone heard of his progress? What class is he in? Any projections for coming back?

Braves
02-25-03, 01:45 PM
No...he won't be catching this year. Suffered a major injury in the football game against Providence, so will not play baseball, but still comes out to the practices.

Sorry, Braves, I was trying to be cute and wasn't very clear -- I don't know how to use that "quote" "Braves originally wrote" stuff that you experts use all the time.

Anyway, my source :anon: about the Christian pitching rotation for the Easter tournament claims to have gotten a preliminary indication from the other horse's mouth -- the one who fills out the lineup card. But obviously a lot can change between now and April.

PS Sure would be nice to get some :sun: instead of all this rain and :cold: that makes us need :coffee: to stay warm.

I don't think Daniel always fills out the lineup. I thinks he allows feedback from the coach :)

Benton pitched six strong tonight so I guess we won't see this matchup Friday. Any ideas as to what the matchup will be now? I would guess Odell, Jones, or Furr for Mount.
