Just wanted to inform all of you softball enthusiasts that Forbush will be holding their second annual scrimmage on Saturday, February 22nd (9:00am). This years scrimmage has expanded from 7 to 11 teams and will be held at two locations; Forbush High and Yadkinville Elementary. Teams include; Hopewell, West Rowan, Alexander Central, North Meck, South Caldwell, Southern Alamance, West Forsyth, NW Guilford, Davie County, Starmount, and Forbush. That list includes 3 of the 4, 2002 state champs as well as some of the elite programs in the state. Even though basketball will still be going on, I guarantee you will see some great softball. If you want specific game times and a schedule go to www.forbushsoftball.cjb.net and click on Falcon Scrimmage. I would be glad to post directions if anyone wants them.....

This is a very talented group of teams. I was just wondering how many of the teams will be affected by basketball. Do the Hopewell twins play. Also I have heard Alexander may pull out. Would like to have some info. I can't wait to see some good games and would like to watch the teams that are at full strength or at least close.

Yep, the twins and company are back. A year stronger and more mature. Scary, isn't it? Hopewell is only missing 1 player from basketball. They picked up 3 others from transfers. Looking forward to the scrimmage. We heard that AC was still coming. First game is scheduled for this Wednesday against Indian Land at Hopewell. Can't wait!
Thats my boy..............titanfan........and will those transfers, help in the OF or solid subs? I too, see a tough year ahead for the Titans Opponents, whoever they in 2003........some outstanding, talented and gifted young ladies who represent NC Softball.

I'm not sure that the transfers will make a huge impact. Every starter is returning so they will probably be doing some base running to start. But we needed few more, we had to pull up JV's for the playoffs last year and we actually used them. So the girls are welcomed additions. In reality though, that line-up is pretty rock-solid. Only 1 JV player moved up. But I have to say they are hardworking, talented players, they could surprise us. The JV team should be real good also, they are all back with a few excellent freshmen added to the mix.
By the way, have you seen our schedule? We had EVERYBODY calling wanting to play us. We lined up all of the big guns. We are in the Tournament of Champions in Taylorsville, the Forbush Scrimmage and we are going to the Wendy's Classic Invitational in Ohio (only the top teams in the country were invited). We also scheduled good non-conference games like Butler, Indian Land, Myers Park, etc. So I guess we'll be very busy defending the title. But we wanted it that way. I would much rather play good competition and loose, than to blow lesser teams away. Not to mention our conference has big teams also, North Meck, Central Cabarrus and Independence. Our plate is pretty full. But we're looking forward to the challenge.
We already know that we are nationally ranked but we don't have a number yet, they haven't been released. You can check them out on www.studentsports.com. The updated Fab50 will be out soon. They are also supposed to do a feature article on the twins.
Wish us luck, were're gonna need it.

titanfan, thanks for the info but I knew the twins were playing softball again what I was asking is are they playing basketball or will they be at the scrimmage. I know several teams still have some key players playing basketball and will still be next weekend. I would like to see all these teams together at full strength as these are all some of the states top teams
I am looking forward to seeing some good games. I know that 4 or 5 of South Caldwell's starters won't be able to play as they will be in the basketball playoffs. Hope the weather gets better so we will be able to watch some games in comfort. I know everyone has had a hard time with practice because of the weather and the teams will not be at their best but this is just a scrimmage and hopefully all the teams will get some practice under their belts there and intertain us as well. Good luck to all the competeing teams this weekend. Let the games begin

No, the twins are not playing basketball this year. They decided to concentrate on softball. The only player we have coming from basketball was not on the team last year because of an injury. She has played summer ball with the group though.
Hopewell is set to defend the Title and who is preparing to dethrone them? Any thoughts?

Great question, I think CC and Indy will be fighting to knock them off. I think CC has a better chance then Indy this year. But time will tell. As for the other teams AC will be there at the end. East Lincoln should be also. In the SWAAAA we have at least a threeway dog fight this season between Myers Park, Prov, and Butler. South looks to be strong as does Waddell and East. And you know coach Keelan over at Olympic is pulling out all the stops. I cant wait to get started. It should be fun.

I agree Dawgfan. CC got Indy's best pitcher on a transfer I heard. But Indy has great coaching, they'll regroup. Although CC lost the meat of their team last year, they're JV's were great and didn't loose a game. I thought East Lincoln was 3A? But we (HW) are really looking forward to the big game with your dawgs, and Bowen of course. We are supposed to play tomorrow at home against Indian Land, weather permitting. Can't wait!

Yeah Titanfan
Let me know about indian land, both Varsity and jv if you get toplay. We are supposed to play them Friday. our Varsity plays Weddington Thurs but they dont have a JV team.
We are also looking forward to Seeing you next Thurs. It will be a good way for all of us to see what needs to be done over the course of the season, in order to be there at the end.
BTW do you know if Vance has a JV this year? I heard they may not.

We heard from another coach at Vance, as of Thursday, they were not going to have a JV team. Makes you wonder what's going on over there since they have 2,400 kids at that school. By the way, our girls are really pumped about playing Butler since we did't get to face off last year. Win or loose, it will be great for both teams. In my opinion, and everybody has one, our 2 teams are the closest match this year. We definately have the best 2 pitchers in the state, Bowen and Ervin. I guess it will come down to who makes the 1st mistake.

Titanfan
Your right about the first mistake. when two strong teams face each other. its usually a who blinks first thing. I agree that both our teams will be in the hunt but in our conf. Prov is always tough and Myers park with the new coach and Meridith O'Conner on the mound are a force to consider. Like most seasons, the team that makes the least mistakes and gets a few breaks along the way will be there at the end. (but great pitching don't hurt)
Hey It sure is nice to talk intelligently with another schools fan for a change, I hope it stays this way once everybody gets here. I guess we will have to promote this kind of board rather then the trash that went on at the other one.

Amen to that! That other board was getting out of hand. Hey, I'll let you know the scoop on Indian Land if we get to play tomorrow.
