I noticed that impact baseball has put out a top-50 list for North Carolina players. If anyone has access to this or can view this, could you please post it on this site. I'm just curious to see who's on the list and the order, etc. but i don't wand to pay $50 just to see it. thanks

Under NO circumstances should we be repeating information on here that is proprietary to a subscription-based site. Any subscription-based site, Impact Baseball included, copyrights all of its information to protect against this very thing. If you want to see a message board shut down fast, start doing that.

As a moderator ...

If any such proprietary information is posted, the information will be deleted as soon as discovered.

i just want to know who's #1, i got a friend who might be and i want to know if he is or not, if you are too worried about posting stuff off impactbaseball, then don't, but if you don't care, then go ahead, just #1

I understand.

We can't do this yet. We have requested Impact to let us respond to individual questions, but they have not decided yet. Once they do decide we may be able to answer your question.

Answering question concerning proprietary information can get the poster in a heap load of trouble for copyright infringement. The board would be liable to provide information concerning the poster etc etc etc.

I'll post the details one way or another concerning their response.

Andy Partin has graciously allowed us to answer limited questions concerning his Top 50 list.

You may ask: "Where is Joe Shmoe on Impact Baseballs Top-50 list?"

The response: If Joe Shmoe is 4th or 7th on the list, you may answer "Joe is in the Top 10". If Joe Shmoe is is 11th, you may answer "Joe is in the Top 20".

Not absolutes, but relative. The list will not be displayed on this web site.

Many services NEVER ALLOW their information to be displayed in such a format. It was very gracious of Andy to allow this much and I know that we appreciate it ... I certainly do.

<Beginning of Shameless, Unrequested Plug>

Impact Baseball provides a great service to the High School players in North Carolina. It has become one of the top regional showcases in the Nation. With Impact increasing participation in the North Carolina State Games and expanding into S.C. and Southern Virginia, his costs to provide this service has risen. His web site has become a subscription service.

If you love HS Baseball, very few people in the entire state are doing more to promote it than Andy Partin. I would encourage you to subscribe to his service, for our players and for the continued growth of high class regional showcases in our area.

Is Andy's top 50 list composed of 2003 graduates only?

I also agree that anyone that enjoys highschool baseball should register for Impact's membership and then send Andy a hearty thank you for the tremendous "impact" he has had on high school baseball players in our region.

Keep up the good work!

Yes. It's the '03 guys only - it's a list of the College/Draft eligible players from NC.

There is a 2004 NC & SC Prospect List to follow as well.

NCBBallFan
02-14-03, 08:40 AM
Yeah

Andy has worked in S.C. and is moving stronger into the state. His '03 follow list in S.C. is pretty complete.

'04 lists are harder right now. Last year you might have been an outstanding Sophomore SS but you were playing behind Senior Kenny Smith up at TC Roberson (NC Player of the Year). Pre-season '04's will have some omissions - but who is there reflects some great quality.

The S.C. '04 list is the same way - there are some omissions but I know Andy is going to rectify that as he expands.

Virginia's list is in the developmental stages right now. The VA Beach area is loaded with outstanding players. Like anything, when you have so much to cover - it takes a little time to build it up.

The NC stuff is (generally) right on...It's way to early for the 05's to be a blip on the screen. By mid-season, he will probably have a good feel for the top 05's in the state ... 06's that he hears about are generally filed away for the future I bet. Too much can happen between freshman and senior year of HS.

I disagree somewhat. I love the site and I know he works hard, but, he always has very few kids listed who are west of Charlotte and Hickory even though they continue to win state championships. I know that West Henderson will start 9 kids this year, 6 seniors and 3 juniors that will "all" play college baseball. Without seeing the list I doubt a one of them are on it, even though Mitchel Pridmore and Cory Rose both threw 3 perfect innings at state games last year. Kevin Allen has had several major league teams send him info booklets to fill out. 4 of these kids were on the state games team. Someone who has access tell me how many West Henderson kids are on the list. It will prove the point I am trying to make that he only covers half the state. I still enjoy the site though. Good information.

Public Service Announcement

If you are playing HS Baseball with aspirations of continuing your career beyond HS, this is a must read site for you.

Guidelines for showcases, information on recruiting, scholarships --- anything you need to know to prepare you for baseball beyond HS is there.

Bob Howdeshell over in Tennessee has done a great job gathering the information - contributors include pro scouts, college coaches, professional trainers, even articles from mlb . com

Don't just jump for the message board - get the meat first. Read the articles, interviews, pro scouting, and the editorials.

Here is the link -- bookmark it. www.hsbaseballweb.com

For those of you who need a guide to the type of information available, here is a another link concerning (tongue-in-cheek) showcases that will give you a feel for the mine-field out there in high school baseball. I give you "BUBBA"...

The Object of the board.

1. Place to communicate about High School baseball
2. Place to give kudo's concerning good performances
3. Place to get scouting reports about up-coming matchups
4. Place to post honest player evaluations
5. Place to socialize
6. Place to reflect some of your school spirit
7. As many other reasons as you can think of.

Conversations on the board.

1. When limited to 2-3 routine posters, they might as well just pick up a phone and call each other
2. 2 or 3 people can't see EVERY GAME
3. Information for everyone else is filtered threw someone ELSE's eyes and you may not trust their judgement. The more opinions/observations present, the higher the likelyhood of complete impartial information.
4. There are some REALLY GOOD PLAYERS out there that WE DON'T KNOW ABOUT ... and we want to know also.

No-No's on the board
1. We don't slam players .......... ever
2. We don't slam posters ......... ever
3. We DO say if we disagree.

Desired: Minimum participation requirement

1. If you visit the board, at least find a post that you agree with and post a smiley as your comment. It may even be about one of our stupid jokes.... but start posting.

2. Get us schedules so we can let everyone know when the games are. There are associate scouts that visit the board also. You may not care if WE know when your guys are playing, but you may want THEM to know.

3. Give us input about JV players, HS Players, former HS Players that are doing well, college life, what you went through in training while in college

4. Give us tips to share with the younger coaches. Little things to see... If you were a college pitcher and were taught to "watch the knob of the hitters bat", tell us about that and WHY so the players visiting the board can learn.

5. Ask questions. Regardless of your situation, it is not unique. Someone has been there before and 99.44% of people would like to help if they could.

6. Testosterone Versus Team:
a) We know that JV players are a little higher on the 1st than the 2nd.
b) We know that Varsity players are a little higher on the 2nd than the 1st.
c) Think about this AS A PLAYER: If your teammate has picked up the team, done something that was critical in a win, provided extra leadership and YOU DON'T TELL US, how is anyone ever going to know how special his teammates think he is.
d) Its about "We not Me": Granted - a team is about We..but the Me's make the plays and it is nice to know which Me's helped the We's.
e) The ones who usually talk "smack" on the board are outsiders looking in - they either don't play the game or can't evaluate what they are really seeing (added later).

I'll get off of my soapbox now..but I may need a ladder....uhh uhh ...can someone give me a hand?????

Some people are having difficulty getting into the sessions...others are breezing in without a problem.

Larry is too busy with the space problem right now to take a run at this one, so we are going to do our job and collect examples and data in order to speed the process once he has the situation back under control.

If you are having trouble connecting, please post the following information.

1. Your screen name
2. How you connect to the net (aol, cable modem, juno etc.)
3. Which browser you are running (netscape, Windows Explorer with version # available if you click on help, about Internet Explorer, proprietary browser provided by internet provider.)
4. Exactly WHAT you see when your connection fails. Do you get in the room but can't post, never see the room?
5. Are you going in with just a "name" or did you register to reserve your name for all times and have a password?
6. What are the options settings under your profile.
7. Operating system that you are running (Win95, 98, 2000, 2020, Mac OS, 9 or 10 or 3300, Unix, Ultrix, Spandex)

There may be other questions...I would like to get a list of users having problems so we can see what the common denominators are.

Thanks guys.

In the 2 brief months that we have been "on the net", our little sports forum has grown from being the smallest in the number of posts (of the seven) to smack dab in the middle according to volume.

We have passed:
Hockey, which was established in April of '02
The Beerbariams, which dates from March of '02
Fantasyland, which dates from July of '02

......Braves & I sure like to hear ourselves type, don't we......

But we would rather have you do it. I already know what I think (when I think).

The Beerbariams: I know it's mis-spelled..but I kinda like it .... I've always had to move my lips when I read...now I'm starting to do it when I type also ...HURRY UP (I'm melting, I'm melting....aaaarrrrgggg!!!)

Leroy Holden retired TODAY as the AD at North Meck. This is catching a lot of us by surprise. I think he came with the original building and has BEEN North Meck athletics for years. He is a very nice man and was an excellent coach also.

The spring season just won't be the same without him there. He will be missed (but will probably catch more of the games hopefully instead of working the concessions and cooking his famous hamburgers at the games).

A replacement search is underway? How long will it take to get THAT organized.... I hope the new A.D. is a baseball man.

:( :( :(

Strokes usually strike without warning, particularly in young athletes. A stress test, or any other type of physical examination that would routinely be done on an athlete would not have revealed anything. It is related to increasing blood pressure cause by the physical exertion. A blood vessel in the brain simply bursts under the pressure. It's not related to his heart.

Heat strokes is caused by dehydration and loss of salt from the body during physical exertion. The body looses the ability to regulate internal core temperature. As a result, different body organs just begin to shutdown, leading to catastrophic results. You normally associate heatstroke with outdoors exertion. The water in a pool would normally carry away the excess heat that the body would be producing without the catastropic results.

But there are no absolutes in anything. A weakness in a vessel in the brain MAY have been detectable under a CAT scan, but it MAY NOT have been detectable. According to some studies, approximately five percent of the population harbors brain aneurysms -- or bubbles in blood vessels supplying the brain.

According to what I heard this morning, he had a thickening of the heart muscle. I do not believe that would be related to high blood pressure. But before we get on a roll here doing the "why didn't they find this before now", just remember all of the healthy people who have suddenly died before Mike.

My prayers are with this young man's family and friends. My son knew him from The Park.

TBR is far better than last years board..... It's starting to get more interesting as the season cranks up......:saywhat: :p

so far, so good..

What you have to keep in mind; the only reason this forum was created was because we thought we were going to lose Chlt.com. Nowhere to post and keep up with HS baseball

I really like how we have started and am looking forward to the future of this Forum. It's been a lot of fun!!

I am the manager of Elon University's baseball team. One of my fellow teammates lost his father today to cancer. Kevin Pratt was a 2002 grad from East Mecklenburg high school, where he played baseball. he also played for the summer league On Deck O's. My thoughts are with Kevin and his family, and I ask that a prayer is said for them in this time of grief.

I am so sorry to hear that. Of course, my prayers go out to the Pratt family. I didn't know his father, but he must have been a great man to raise such a classy kid. God Bless them

TBR had a thread about Dale Eanhardt's untimely death. It lasted over 20 pages. If you can imagine the emotions that were typed by our members that day....they were raw!!

So as a group, when we face a death of a family member of this board, we feel it as a family and feel the sorrow they are going through. We have a symbol now for TBR that expresses our condolences by honoring a man we lost in sorrow. That symbol is "3". It stands for every emotion people expressed in the thread on Dale Earnhardt

A new member may have thought that we were being disrespectful with this, but in earnest, it was meant the complete opposite.

I didn't think it was disrespectful, I just couldn't figure out what it meant! Thanks for the clarification.

And yes, a tragedy like this is felt on the board and in the community at large. If you can figure out a way to send a "group hug" from the baseball posters, I'd be all for it. I'd pitch in on a flower, or some like expression, to be sent to the family.

Happy Birthday Original

You don't look a day over 39. Don't let these old men get to you -- they just wish they looked so young.

DodgerBlues...I was always taught to respect my elders so I have let this childhood lesson serve me well when dealing with my friends Braves and NCBBall!
