View Full Version : 4A Sectional Matchups...
I've been keeping track of what's happening in the NW4A, SW4A and MECA 8 conferences, and I think I have the sectionals all ready figured out. Most if not all these should be right.
Section 1
Providence @ Freedom
Winner of Prov/Freedom @ Vance
Harding @ AC Reynolds
Winner of Harding/Reynolds @ Myers Park
____________________________________
Section 2
Garinger @ Hopewell
Garinger/Hopewell winner @ McDowell
South Caldwell @ South Meck
Winner of South Cald/South Meck @ West Charlotte
Those matchups are for the first two rounds.
Sectional Finals: If Vance and Myers Park play in the section 1 finals, Vance will get home court. Otherwise, highest seed gets home.
In Section 2 final, higher seed gets home court, which right now would go to McDowell since they are the only #1 seed in the Section.

Hope everyone understands what I just said.
Thanks and keep us posted..............best time of the year!

the girls sectional will be played on Tue, Thur, Sat. And I assume 6:30-7pm timeframe.
BIGRED, I don't know anything about Providence, except they came in 4th place in the SW4A. And after last night, I'm gonna give up on the "push for Erin May for POY" But when the actual vote comes, look for the media vote and the coaches vote to differ.

i think garinger is the 4th seed from the sw4a... at least that is what the charlotte paper said in the article listed below... is there a way they could have gotten 3rd seed without winning the conf. tourney???

I was under the impression that Garinger and Providence were tied for 3rd in the regular season. The way a tiebreaker is broken is by which team makes the championship game in their tourney. If neither team makes a championship game, then a play-in game is necessary for seeding. Garinger made the championship game and there for should have won the 3 seed tiebreaker.
I may be wrong, but that's what I read earlier in the week.
bigdan, why have you just given up on POY May? I have not seen her play since late Janurary, so fill me in! nw4a-rules, Don't trust the Charlotte Observer on the scheduling today, check the next day, probably different...... :boune: :boune: :boune:
Hope all you fans will keep us posted with latest scores, once this great time of the year begins!

I started a thread over on the Charlotte.com boards about who should be NW4A POY, and after watching Erin in conference play, I think she has meant as much to McDowell's success as Anna Atkinson has. That's no disrespect to Anna, but I don't think we would have swept Freedom, East Burke and South Caldwell without Erin in the lineup. As you know, East Burke and South like to play a more physical game, and we needed Erin in the middle to battle inside. Not too many people agree with me though, so that's why I said I have given up of Erin being POY. Nobody wants to jump on the bandwagon, so to speak.
I think when the official all-conference team comes out, you'll see a difference between the media vote and the coaches vote for POY and first team.
Thanks for your insight! I think, as you do, without her physcial presence, it would have been a long year for the Titans and just hope she gets POY.;)

My bet is that Erin May did't get within the top three in the conference. Great girl. Just not top three material. Let's be honest, if you really watch her play, Erin doesn't like the physical game at all. Basketball is certainly no longer a "no contact" sport. I wish it were different, but it isn't. Anna Atkinson will be player of the year. Just curious for anyone that may know, which 4A girl has scored the most points or has the best point average this year. Just curious if anyone knows. Anna, you go girl, you rule the court.

alexis anderson of south caldwell probably had the most points this season... i saw a lot of box scores where she was in the high teens or twenties... most of the other top 5 teams have a little more balanced attack, but south lived and died with anderson, relying heavily on her scoring for success... so, if i had to guess, and that is all i am doing, i would think anderson scored the most points this season...
update: just read in today's paper that alexis averaged 19 on the season... not sure the average in conference, but that was her season average...

interesting point!
I've been keeping track of the girls point production, and it's a good indicator of how balanced mcdowell really is.
McDowell starting five:
Anna Atkinson: 11.9 ppg (13.9 ppg in conference)
Laura Snider: 12.0 ppg (13.0 conference avg.)
Erin May: 10.7 ppg (11.5 conference avg.)
Emily Lovik: 9.3 ppg (8.0 conference avg.)
Aimee Kiser: 8.0 ppg (6.7 conference avg)
To have three starters in double digits, and the other two producing at least 8 per game is a good sign of a balanced offense and a very productive offense.
Also, in reguard to total points, you may find this interesting.
Laura Snider has 301 points for the season
Anna has 297
Erin has 257
Emily: 232
Aimee: 200
Thanks dan for the stats and indeed the Titans are a well balanced team! Question: Did Snider and Atkinson have recent relatives to play BB for McDowell, those two Names keep showing up for me  or just similiar names(Silver...i know his DD players)??? Good Luck and we are rooting for You GuYs in MCDOWELL to win the State

Reynolds didn't shoot the three ball well and unfortunately lost to Garinger by 10 or so.
Congrats to them on a great season.
People looking ahead to a matchup with McDowell shouldn't take to much confindence out of the Garinger win. Reynolds shot the rock really well in the close one at Reynolds.
