View Full Version : Coming off TV withdrawal
SO here's how it is. My roommates had TVs...they brought 3 to the apartment. Figured, hell, don't need to buy anything.
As time went on and their lazy asses never got jobs, things got different. For one, they bought a brand new flat screen TV. OK, that's cool. I wouldn't have, but whatever. So they sell the old tv. Then they go a while longer without jobs, they sell the new TV too. the other two TVs are in their rooms. So I finally got around to getting something together in my room and now I have TV access whenever I want it for the first time in months. I didn't miss it too much but it's nice to have again.
How long have you gone without TV daily and still survived?
I go days without it, really.............
I've gotten so I don't watch hardly any except for stuff like the discovery channel or scooby doo when I ride my bike but thats it.......
I'd much rather be on my pc, on this board, can't you all tell that by now???:D :D

I went 6 weeks at a time every summer for about 3 years when I was a camp counselor. I didn't miss it much because everything was reruns. I need to cut back on my watching, but I usually just have it on for background noise.

Celyn, I am like you. I stay on this PC all the time. Is there something wrong with us?
I usually keep music on 24/7. It works as background noise, TV does, but I usually end up watching instead where music won't necessarily keep my attention longer than 5 minutes at a time. I do a lot of work at my desk, which despite having a lot of space at my disposal is next to my bed. So TV's gonna be a big ass distraction.
I'm going through March Madness withdrawl. There's not any good b-ball on tonight. Just the whorenets and women's. WWF is on though. Rock and Hogan are teaming up against Hall and Nahs in just a few.

Does having only 3 channels count as really having tv? I always have the radio on. I hate silence!
i use mine to watch ball games. football, hockey, bball. also use it for playing tapes and dvd's.
every morning my tv is on while i get ready for work. watch the news and and i want to know what kind of weather to expect. living here, it's good to know the weather. snowing right now, but yesterday it was like spring.
i know someone who uses the tv as a planter. :(

Amen to that.
I don't think three channels reallycounts that much. Depends on how much you watch them.
Can't you pick up the Fox local also?

I really miss CMT cause i like alot of the songs and i want to see what the person looks like that sings them.

every year we have a jazz festival here. summer. it's called a taste of colorado, not really jazz, but jazzbands from all over come and play and there's colorado food all over. always held downtown denver by the capitol. summer is a good time to visit. but winter is best IMO. :aok:

you know it! winter is the best here. it is not like the winter back east. we get the sun 365 days a year. i am not kidding. it snows, yeah, but come morning the sun is out and everything is pretty. when my family from california come to visit, they are in awe. taking pictures all the time like japanese tourists! :D
the festival runs over the weekend but starts friday afternoon. they got colorado food. actually all kinds of cuisine is there, "a taste of colorado" is what we call it because food and music are featured. smooth jazz, colorado style, lots of rock and the finest beer! colorado has the finest local brew in the country. i know milwaukee will protest that, but they are wrong. :D
good lord, i sound like some toursim promo! i'm californian!

I don't know that I've been a day without tv for close to 4 years. Then again, I work at a television station so that probably has a big part to do with that.
yep doesn't make it easy to be without. Kinda part of the reason I don't go without music for more than an hour at a time if I can help.

I went without electricity for 5 years as a child, in the heart of my cartoon years (4-9). Still had TV though.
We had four car batteries we would alternate to hook up to the TV, my friends all thought that was the coolest.
Dad always got an earful if there weren't freshly charged batteries on Saturday morning! Had to have my Bugs Bunney or I got kind of grumpy.
I'd die w/o TV now! Love my DSS to death!

My Dad was a hippie freak! We bought this cabin on the river and it had no running water or electricity. I thought it sucked then, but if you didn't want to be bothered, which was Dad's take, it was heavenly! Dad had gotten a series of state grants in the form of wind generator parts, but never got all of them.
Some dope dealer jagoff bought it when my parents got divorced. Cost him almost $20K to run electricity back there. I asked the guy if I could come out there sometime to do some soul searching at my thinking spot (huge rock atop a big hill). The guy told me he would shoot me on sight. Didn't want anyone near his "crops".
yeah for that I think a new thinking spot is in order

I sometimes think of calling the DEA and giving them a heads up. All of his "business partners" have been busted, I think his turn is coming. I know exactly where it would be, too.
Just think, you could buy the place after he's busted.

Wouldn't mind having it when we go to build a house. Put a horse stable in and board horses or something.
My Dad would love to have it back, we were just talking about that last week.

I went about 6 months with just rabbitt ears, But I rented movies.
I've been with out an h card for a while now, so I'm down to basic service, I really miss it, especially working nights, there's nothing to watch during the day.

I've got this elaborate home theater (from being in the business) that goes largely unused. I'm not a T.V. guy; I love music!
Generally, sporting events are the only thing I'll watch.

There's nothing on TV I wanna see except sports. If there's not any sports on, I have the TV muted but on, and music on, unless I'm reading and then I'll turn on the weather channel and read. Every once in a while I watch VH1.
When I get home in the evenings sometimes I watch a Seinfeld rerun. Other than that, I'll ignore the tube til college basketball starts back on Thursday. I could easily live without TV instead of my computer. If I wanna watch a movie, I've got DVD's and VHS.

For two years, I lived in an apartment in Elizabeth without cable. It was probably the 2 most productive years of my life. Since I disconnected my own cable a 9 days ago, I think I have adjusted well and only miss it when I sit on the couch to eat. I think I'm a better person now. :D
man, this thread's a month old. I remember it well. I've now had the TV up for a month and I've gotten very little done. Not that I would've anyway.

Oh yea, I wonder how productive you would be without your ISP?

You got me on that one.
Without my computer, I feel lost. But when I lost that too, I didn't miss it nearly as much as I thought I would. After a few days, it was kinda like, oh well. Now, with it on, I can't even get my laundry done.
I really should get up from here and do something. I've been home almost an hour and I've eaten nothing but a can of cold spaghetti in a can....We don't have a microwave either.
Damn...I'm pathetic.
