Alicia Keys
Nelly Furtado
The Corrs
Jennifer Lopez
Creed
3 Doors Down
Radiohead
Sheryl Crow
Please feel free to defend any of them. I consider them below average, a few average at best, but hardly 5 time grammy winners. Utter nonsense.:chair:
I like Nelly Furtado. It's not hard core music but not everything's dedicated to headbanging, same with Sheryl Crow. It depends on the song, of course, but there's a lot from both that are good.
Nelly actually is interesting partly because it's just new and different. It's pop I can listen to without having to think it's bubblegum or prefab. It might be, but I like it regardless.
Alicia Keys isn't put out there for you. You wouldn't get that anyway. She's talented, but they overplay her stuff and soul/R&B in a slow format just doesn't have a long shelf life. She needs to put out a decent song to funk around with or she's going to fall off the face of the earth.

Nelly Furtado - hot (downside - she's Canadian)
Alicia Keys - hot..sortof (downside) - seems like a stuck up biatch
J Lo - nice ass (downside - P Diddy Railed her)
Coors - hot (Downside - the dude in Coors)
Sheryl Crow - inconsistently hot (downside - duet with Kid Rock)
Radiohead - The Bends(95)is a great CD (downside - the rest of their music blows.)

Alicia Keys - I'd do her
Nelly Furtado - I'd do her
The Corrs - I'd do the women
Jennifer Lopez - I'd do her
Creed - get lost bozos
3 Doors Down - allright but not great
Radiohead - fuck off
Sheryl Crow - I'd do her
thanks for putting it into perspective surfer.
the chicks in the Corrs - mm, mm good.
dudes, you are too funny! gutter asked a legitimate Q. so here's my response to that.
i dont get j. lopez! i agree with you on that j.lo call, gutter. alicia keys, i dont know bout her. that diva type voice gives me goosebumps and i dont like it. all that wailing is too show-offy!mtv used to play her alot. maybe they still do, i quit watching.
to each his own, i say. corrs are alright. but not enough for me to actually spend money on.
three doors down: hmmm, too much cliche's on the lyrics. way too much. however, "loser" is good, and so is "kryptonite"
just rediscovered sheryl crow...and that canadian chick. i like their stuff. dont know enuf to critique.
creed, i can listen to. actually bought both their albums. i think they only have two.
I think Creed was needed because there's not enough rock out there that's without white boy rap influences. I can deal fine with rap and honest tweaking by r&B artists of rock, but not rapmetal.
I don't like the way Creed got big but some of their music was allright. The problem is that there just isn't anything else in the rock mainstream that appeals to the general public. Since there isn't, there's saturation of Creed, and that gets old quick.

Who spends money? I haven't bought but maybe 2 CD's since Napster came out and now I steal all my stuff from Morpheus/Kazaa and make my own CD's.
i know, silver. i know. but when i like a particular artist, i just gotta have the cd. pictures, credits and all. just gotta...
mags, i think you are right. the days of led zep is gone. everything else is a copy of led zep. page/ plant is ok, but not good enuf. :(
I HATE LED ZEPELIN. OVERPLAYED AND OVER-RATED. AND MAG, IT'S NOT ALL HEADBANGING FOR ME. YES, I LIKE METAL AND PUNK ABOVE ALL ELSE, BUT I ALSO LIKE DIDO, CCR, FLAT AND SCRUGGS, BLUES TRAVELERS, EDWIN MCCAIN, AND OTHER STUFF. IT'S JUST THAT THE DAMN MTV, MEDIA, WHOEVER WILL OOOH AND AHHH OVER PURE CRAP. THE GUY FROM CREED CAN'T BE ANY MORE ANNOYING TO WATCH PERFORM. THEIR MUSIC IS SO GENERIC. IT'S BEEN DONE A MILLION TIMES. THE ONLY REASON PEOPLE LIKE THEM IS BECAUSE THE BAND HAS INNER TURMOIL AND HE'S CUTE. IT JUST TAKES A LOT MORE TO IMPRESS ME MUSICALY THAN P DIDDY RIPPING EVERYONE OFF.
OH, AND TO PISS SOME OF YOU OFF, THE DEAD SUX, PHISH SUX WORSE, THE ROLLING STONES NEVER MADE A DECENT SONG, AND NIRVANA MAY WELL BE THE MOST OVERRATED BAND ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET. THERE, I SAID IT.
That's fine.
The problem is you're sitting there worrying about what MTV is trying to push on you. Find what you like and stick to it...if you're interested in some of the people then find out what they're about. If you don't, then don't. But I don't know about putting down something you don't know about.
I like Zeppelin, some of it. I like a lot more of Hendrix and to me he was the cutting edge.

Just my opinion here gutter, but crap music has been ooohed an aaahed over ever since rock and roll was born. How about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons? Take that band that came up with that total shit song "Fly". I wanted to puke whenever I heard that song, thank god its out of play now. Also thank god I can't remember their name. They won grammy's didn't they? I like Led Zep, but I'm an old dude and yeah I do agree they are overplayed. Same with goddamn motherfucking Lynyrd Skynyrd. Why can't a "classic rock" station get by one hour without playing those motherfuckers. "Free Bird" is the corniest goddamn song ever written (basically, its just 'I fucked you redneck bitch, now I'm leaving'). Now, the Stones on the other hand....those are fightin' words brother:D
hahaha....let's not get our panties all in a bunch, ladies. :D
gutter, led zep rules. so does all the led zep copycats. you can't piss me off, gutter. just leave my dave matthews alone, k? ;)
it's different for every city. you got lynyrd skynyrd there? we got black sabbath here! i emailed one radio station here in denver for playing so much black sabbath!
they dont listen. they're still doing it, except they play them 50 times instead of 100 times a day! morons.
Sugar Ray. I thought their songs were decent commercially, but Fly was best because it had SuperCat in it. When they re-released it without him, what the fuck good is that? They're better than Smashmouth, but I take both for what they are, which isn't much, and still find their music tolerable most of the time.
Yeah, we have madd Skynyrd. And notice when I use the word Madd it's in disdain and ridicule of the preposition and people who actually use the word madd.
But it's the South. It's going to happen. It's like going to see enough cover bands in one month to get your fill of Mustang Sally. It won't take long to do.
Amen gutter!!! Their is so much crap out these days it's hard to find anything orginal. As I have said so many times led Zepplin and the dead is what is wrong with music today. anything influenced by these bands have turned out to be pure crap. I do have to agree with some of the other guys that I do like Nelly f. because she does have a style of her own. she takes pop and make her own version and it is very orginal.
Fuck Creed
Fuck Limp bizkit
Fuck nickleback
I'd like to fuck the chicks from the Corrs!!! mmm.......

I hate Zeppelin also. Never have liked em. Dyer Maker and Black Dog are the only songs by them I ever liked.
I liked the Dead and the Stones but you can have Nirvana and the fish.
Nothing wrong with saying what you like and what you don't.:)
that is sooo true, silver! i dont mind saying i love creed, nickleback, and led zep. i have even listened and appreciated fred durst when he did a duet with that guy from goo goo dolls. hellya! it's a free country...we can hate and love equally... the corrs? hmmm...mediocre, but hey, they are allowed to suck...
this board rocks with passion!

WTF :wtf: Creed (lead singer slips my mind) has one of the best if not the best rock voice to come along in 20 years or more!
Jewel, well she has more talent in one breast than 90% of the todays top 40.

Scott Stapp is his name.
thanx, niner. obtw, sandman, did you catch creed last night on sat. night live? did anyone? i missed it. :(
Creed's a decent band and they have a good singer but I don't really like their product that much. I'll listen to it if it's there, but I won't stop turning the channel or physically make an effort to turn it on.

I'll go with you on that magnus.
thing about Creed is alot, IMO most, of their songs sound the same. Which seems to carry over to alot of bands nowadays. :(
I'll actually agree with Gutter....on Creed. They are what Bad Company was to Led Zepplin. Fourth generation Pearl Jam. I can't actually beleive that in 10 years, we can have 4 different reclyings of a grunge band, but here we are. From Pearl Jam, to STP, to Bush, and now Creed. It's just gotten more formulated and shiney.
Now, another band I don't get is Slayer, and how some people seem to think that 5th generation Motorhead meets Judas Priest band is actually somehow punk. Just because they do a few Smiths covers or something doesn't make them Black Flag.
thing i like about creed is that they can actually sing and has a legitimate style. i.e. my own prison and higher. their music is simple. easy to tolerate (IMO) and fun to sing along to. i like "higher" for its entertainment value. that unique voice is so full! i'd pay to see them in concert. actually they were here in denver last june. i was not, otherwise i woulda paid serious money to see them.

Dems fightin' words. Slayer has been around since "79". They are hardly 5th generation of anybody. They are punk-fused metal. Hell, they were in punk bands. Listen to the album Undisputed Attitude.
Lionel Richie and Willie Nelson were in horn lines but that doesn't make them Charlie Parker, now does it?
Well, you play the sax. That doesn't exactly make you Kenny G.
God I hope not. And I'm not Maceo either. But I'm not pumping myself up, I know my level. At any rate, you're dodging. They're not on that level. If you like Slayer, like them without getting your panties in a bunch when someone calls them not pure punk...as if punk has standards.
If you really like Kenny G we're done talking about music.
I used to like Kenny G. I played the sax for 7 years. Haven't touched it in a long time. Yes, Slayer is not pure punk, but they are definitely punk influenced. And like you said, what is pure punk anyway. Everything from Talking Heads, Clash, and The Ramones are considered punk but sound nothing alike. My point was calling Slayer a 5th generation band when they have been around for over 20 years is bs. They are one of the few old skool bands from the 80's that are still around. And they never had any mainstream success and they never faltered from their sound. That sounds a little punk to me.
wow! i'm floored! you guys play sax? shit i only play the piano and guitar and i suck. i mean that.
i play for myself and sometimes for family.
gutter, kenny g? hahaha... he's ok, i guess if you like that sort of jazz thing. you got mags there! that is too funny. ;)

On a scale of 1-10 where does Sherl Crow fall? At times she looks sexier than hell with that crooked mouth and other times she looks likes a bar slut you have had your way with and want to get rid of?:aorangeha
Punk was always more movement than sound, more of a vibe. That's why you can get everyone from early B-52s to Sonic Youth called a punk band.
I just don't hear it in Slayer, few times I've cared to listen. I hear it in Pavement, but in reality, if you didn't play at CBGBs, I'm not sure you qualify.
And even then, I'm not sure. The Police played there. (I do like the Police, but punk they ain't. And Sting should be shot, big sellout. Go sell your cars, ya patsy.)
Through bashing Slayer, but bashing Creed is a bit too easy. Sort of like bashing KennyG. It's no fair hunting a caged rabbit.
yeah, I play a little funk sax in town. I occasionally play baroque in ensemble, I'm supposed to play something gospel on Easter Sunday but I'm not sure what exactly.
cool, mags. sax was my instrument of choice! piano is not really considered cool. more like geeky. guitar, everyone and their sister know how to play the guitar.
but sax! hmmm...coool. easter? for your church? shoot, kings, any music piece titled kings is an easter thing, at least that's what we sing at my church. choir. soprano. am the original geek!
obtw, mags, i found a picture that i want as an avatar. i'll will send you it ASAP. i got two. pick one for me, willya? :p
Sure, I can do that for you. If nothing else post it in Testing or something and then PM it to me because I'm absent-minded.
Yeah, I used to have a pretty regular gig with baroque. Kinda miss it.
This isn't my church. It's in Greensboro I believe...the guy who I'm playing with basically went to the best opportunity and I was requested as part of the deal. I've had the chance to run with this group before but never played there. I've only gigged as far as Durham with church music but that was sight reading out of hymnals.

Disagree with you Gutter. As someone that played guitar and sang all through high school and college (in a band called Mind Slave)...I know metal. Slayer is plain balls out speed metal. I do NOT hear the punk influence. They can play. Most punk bands have very limited abilities.
I don't GET Slayer, but for what they do...they do it well.
I don't get rap. I hate it. Despise it. Whenever I see a white kid listening to it, I want to kill him. At least the black kids can say "my people made this trash." What is the white kids' excuse?
