Enka won a close game today against T.C. Roberson 2 to 1. Game was close the whole way with Enka going into the 7th with a 2 - 0 lead. The Rams lead off with a single and then moved to second. The next batter hit a slow roller to third baseman and she looked the runner back then pulled the first baseman off the bag, allowing the runner on second to move to third. The next play the catcher for Enka threw down to second to get the runner but the throw was late and the runner on third scored. Katie Blankenship then struck the next 3 batters out to win the game. Roberson pitcher Courtney Hudson (transfer from Owen) pitched a great game but came up on the losing end. Good start to the conference play and an indication of how tight the league is going to be this year. :fight:

Enka played RS Central today and won by a score of 9 - 2.
Amber Banks pitched for enka and won her second game allowing 2 unearned runs. Enka was lead in hitting by Brittany Shetley who went 3 for 4 with a HR, 2 singles, 2 RBI's and 4 runs scored.
Whitney Hinson went 2 for 3 with a triple, single. Katie Blankenship went 2 for 3 with two singles.I left out Lindsey Wright by mistake..She Went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Enka is now 4-0 and plays Asheville High next on tuesday of next week. Go Sugar Jets!

I tried to post last night but the server must have been too hot for my email to get through...haha...Enka finally got to play another game after almost 2 weeks off. Enka topped Smokey Mountain today 15 to 0. No need to go into details on this game. Enka moves to 5-0 and 2 -0 in the conference. Big game tomorrow (thurs 27) against North Buncombe. I anticipate a tough game from both teams...I went to see Ali Manns pitch against Roberson and she was her typical methodical self. Dan always a pleasure to watch Ali work. I will miss her next year since she is a senior this year.

The day the wheels fell off....haha....Not a great day for Enka as they were sent a message that North Buncombe is the front runner in the mac conference so far. North Buncombe 5 - Enka 1.
Ali pitched her usual great game. Scattering hits all day. North Buncombe had timely hits and costly errors by Enka spells LOSS.
My hats off to North Buncombe as they played a very good game and deserve to be the front runner.

Enka bounced back from their first loss and beat Tuscola today behind the arm of Amber Banks.

Next Game Tuesday against Erwin.

Enka played Erwin today at home. Enka came out on top with a final score of 13 - 1. It was a close game until the 3rd inning with Enka up 4 to 1 when Erwin's starting pitcher Lauren West was no longer able to pitch due to a Broken finger nail on her pitching hand which caused her to lose control of her pitches. Erwin's lone run was on a solo homerun by Alisha Anders on the first pitch to her in the second inning. Congratulations Alisha. Katie Blankenship picked up the win for Enka.
Enka hit well as a team so I will just say it was a team effort...

Enka's record now stands at 7 -1 overall, 4 -1 in conference play.

Reynolds 9 Enka 5.

Enka showed up physically but I am not sure where they left their minds. Good performance from Reynolds and their freshman pitcher Amy Huntley. Both teams have big conference games on friday and since this game was out of conference both teams big time pitchers got the day off. Amber Banks Enka) pitched a good game but her defense let her down. Enka left 12 runners on base and I believe 3 innings they left bases loaded. Opportunities were there but Enka failed to capitalize. I would not want to be a player at practice on thursday for Enka...haha

Enka's record stands at 7-2 overall (4-1) conference.

Enka 6 - East Henderson 2

Enka played very well not only defensively but offensively. Enka's Katie Blankenship had a no-hitter going into the bottom of the 6th before East got two runs on two hits. Enka had a lot of balls that were hit hard that were right at a player that could have made the winning score even larger. Enka plays next week against Franklin at home on tuesday and at T.C. on friday before spring break.
Enka's overall record is 8-2 (5-1) in conference.

I am sorry that I have not written in awhile....trying to dry out...haha....I will have Enka's revised schedule on the board soon. I hope our team remembers how to play after this long layoff. I know that we play at Owen on Wednesday at 6pm and then Thursday at Asheville High and back at home on Friday against Asheville High. Next week will decide the outcome of the conference race or at least make it interesting. Enka plays North Buncombe, T.C. Roberson and East Henderson. Tough week.

Enka 3-0 over Owen. Katie Blankenship scattered 3 hits and struck out 6 in a fine performance for the sophomore from Enka...Not bad over an almost 3 week layoff. Owen sophomore pitcher Sarah Burnette had a fine outing as well. She scattered 6 hits and struck out 12 with no earn runs. Enka was led in hitting by Brittany Shetley with 3 hits. Next game is tomorrow against Asheville High.

North Buncombe and Ali Manns...not the whole story but it would be easy to get caught up in talking about Ali...Great pitcher who makes the tough pitches when she has too. NB played the short game to perfection, bunting to get runners, stealing to put runners in position to score with a hit. Fred is an excellent coach. I enjoy watching him coach this young team. My vote for POY goes to Ali...sorry Kevin(Amy Glenn) but Ali has been there all year.

Owen 8 Mtn Heritage 0...Burnette was not as sharp as usual...Early on when the game was scorless she pitched out of bases loaded no out situation with no scores..seemed too dishearten Mtn Heritage....Angel came in late and pitched well no earned runs.

Not sure if you heard. The NB first baseman, Melody Edmunds has also committed to Lynchburg. She is probably NB's best defensive and offensive player, and certainly one of the best in the MAC. Now if we can get that Enka 2nd baseman too... Lynchburg College will be more than incredible.

TCR 1 - 0 ....Courtney Hudson pitched a 3 hitter. Her drop ball and location was excellent. Trish knocked in the winning run in the first inning which was the only run scored. Next Game Friday at home against East Henderson.

Lots of hits. Glad to see Enka remember where they kept their bats and brought them to the game this time.

Next games tomorrow at Erwin 4pm and 7pm back at home against Franklin. Have to make up all those rainouts.

Enka's pitcher Katie Blankenship has had arm problems (not serious) and is resting more than likely until playoffs. Amber Banks has stepped up and picked up the load. Enka should be a lot stronger with both pitchers ready to go for the playoffs.

next week 3 games against East Henderson, Smokey Mtn and Franklin to finish up the season.

I hear Katie Blankenship is getting lots better. Not sure when she will pitch again but say a prayer for her that she is back pitching real soon. Amber has done a great job having to pitch all games and Enka is lucky to be blessed with another great arm.

I AM GLAD TO BE BACK!!!!! I have missed WNC softball. I hear Enka plays Tuesday against Reynolds at home. in a tune up game for the playoffs. I have also heard that Owen and West Henderson will play right (decide who wins conference)after Enka finishes their game at Enka as well...

Longwood was in the catbird seat in Virginia for a long time because, remarkably, they were the only DII college in the state playing softball, so they really had their pick. However, they are going DI next year and are going to have to compete for all the DI talent in the state with Va Tech, UVa, Radford, James Madison and others. Going out of state then for DI prospects is something they will have to do. Great little school in Farmville whose only real athletic claim to fame, heretofore, was a very solid baseball program. When I was in high school (an hour away), it was an all-girls school, juxtaposed to Hampden-Sydney, their all-boys counterpart down the road. Anyway, good school with that had a very solid DII program. Later. P.S. You guys want to see something pitiful, go to the stream about Alexander Central. After reading all that I had to comment, but you will be amazed at how rancorous a situation can get. Too bad.
