Johnson pitcked against St Stephens and Pierce against North Davidson. Both had shutouts and only gave up a couple of hits. Both are Freshmen.
Noth Davidson used a Sophmore and ACHS only had a couple of hits.

McDowell plays at St. Stephens today. Unfortunately basketball is over, which means Erin May should start at SS for McDowell. Well see if McDowell can bounce back from their lopsided losses to Enka now that they are at full strength.
Varsity starts @ 4:00 PM

Good Luck to you Tarheel Titan....Let me know the outcome...I hope McDowell does bounce back...St. Stephens has a good ballclub...Catcher hits to either side of the field...Or at least she did against Owen....

South Caldwell 11
East Lincoln 6
Made the ride over to this game today and saw 2 very good teams. The SC girls can really hit. 2 home runs and every girl on the team hit the ball hard at least once. I didn't see any of them with bad swings. The E. Lincoln girls hit the ball well off the first pitcher South had but the girl that came in around the forth inning did a good job. A very good defensive game with only one error that I can remember. This was a fun game to watch and both these teams should do very well this year.
Also I saw where St. Stephens won 6-2 over Mcdowell.
Nice game......and love the aggressive hitters with big eyes! Both teams will be tuff in their respective conference and will be in the state playoffs! Nice to see all our EL/SC Friends roday......good luck to all!

Watauga's defense still faultered, but the hitting came through. Catcher Jadi Seiz's three run home run, Watauga's first ever over the fence, tied the game in the six. Watauga scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. First baseman, Brittany Beach nearly accomplished that feat two innings earlier, as she lined a double off the left centerfield fence.

St. Stephens plays South Caldwell thursday @ South. The JV's play first then varsity. Enkajet04..catcher went one for three against Mcdowell with 2 RBI's. #9 hit a solo HR and some others started to step it up and hit too. Should be a good game friday if both are ready and prepared!

Softball4ever, I do like that catcher....glad to see she is still swinging a hot bat....I wouldn't mind seeing that game on Friday. Good Luck to them. Enka plays RS Central Thursday...todays game I will post on enka schedule thread.
The St.Stephens- South Caldwell game is Thursday not friday. Varsity will probablly start between 6 and 6:30. Should be a real good game as St. Stephens is one of the better teams in the state. This will be the first home game for the SC girls. Hope a lot of people come out and check out the new facilities. They have turned this into one of the nicer parks in the state. The newly planted grass around the outside is not up yet but everything else looks real good. Hope to see you there.
One comment on the SC and East Lincoln game yeaterday. I heard one of the SC coaches said that the sportsmanship that the players and fans from E. Lincoln showed was outstanding. Just thought I would mention that and congratulate E.Lincoln on a class act. Good luck the rest of the year.
scfan, we are looking forward to seeing the game and the facilities and with EL team, fans and supporters......you are right,,,great fans and warm and wonderful people! Good luck and thanks for the information!

CFBall, you mean you are not making it to the Enka/RS Central game today? haha....I know you can't be everywhere. I think Enka is going to pitch Amber Banks instead of Katie Blankenship to save her for either next weeks game or just conference games. I had hoped they would let her pitch against them this year since she had such a bad outing last year against them. Enjoying the website....Really like the info that gets posted.

South caldwell lost 6-2 to a very good St.Stephens team last night. The girls just didn,t get the hits last night. Heather Pritchard and Heather Benfield had the only 4 hits for SC. Pritchard had a single and a double and scored a run. Benfield had a single and a double with 2 RBIs. Keri Austin drew 3 walks. Congrats to St. Stephens on a well played game.
South opens it's conference play on Tuesday at Watagua.
You guys have a good little team and should do well in the conference and the playoffs! I truely enjoyed the facilities and the game. Nice and hope to see ya'll during the Easter tournament! Thanks for your insight on the game and the players, hope Pritchard's thumb will heal without surgery(always a nagging injury).

Watauga 0
The game was scoreless going to the fifth. Watauga had a chance early as Brittany Beach led off the second with a triple, but the Pioneers couldn't push the run across. Ashe scored in the 5th and then scored 3 unearned runs in the 6th. Excellent pitching dual as Shelton (WHS) recorded 9 strikeouts and Richardson (ACHS) had 11. Big crowd in Boone. South Caldwell comes to Boone for Tuesday's conference opener.

CFball, I also made the trip up to South Caldwell Thursday and really like the facilities. They have done a lot of work up there. The nw4a can be proud that they have 2 of the nicest parks in the state in South Caldwell and Alexander Central for their girls to play at. Nw4a Conference action starts with the Mcdowell and Alexander game on Monday. Everyone else plays on Tuesday. From what games I have seen and heard of this year SC should be the team to beat and don't overlook AC Reynolds. Alexander will contend just don't know if they have enough for these two only time will tell.
You are so correct in your assesment of these two wonderful facilities! I do not know of any that can rival them either. Good luck to your favorite team(s)this spring and we hope to meet you soon!:D

South went on to score 5 more runs in the inning. 3 Watauga errors led to 6 unearned runs. Adams and Ford both hit the ball hard on the day. For Watauga Jadi Seiz just missed her second home run on the year and ended up with a double instead. Brittany Beach also had a double for Watauga. Reid picked up the complete game win for the Spartans. South Caldwell plays East Burke on Friday, while Watauga hosts Freedom.

Missing one game from today I think.
The X-factor so far this year has been defense. AC Reynolds has been solid on defense and everybody else - well - hasn't.
East Burke is much, much better than their record. They are off to a tough start, but watch out for them in the conference tournament. Their pitcher (Decker) can absolutely mash the ball. On par with Krohn from AC and Pritchard, and Adams, from South. All should get college scholarships and help someone's program.
Tarheeltitan; Anderson is no long on the South Caldwell. She quit after the East Burke game. Her heart just wasn't in playing this year and it was showing in her play. SC does have a very good replacement and should do very well the rest of the year.

AC Reynolds 13
Watauga 1
This game shows what happens when a good team shows up ready to play, and another team not. Watauga had a poor practice Thursday and got whipped on Friday by a very good AC team.
JV Game
AC Reynolds 13
Watauga 14
Very entertaining game as both teams trailed by large margins but refused to give up. AC led 8-4 before Watauga took the lead 13-8 into the 7th. AC tied the game in the 7th, but Watauga won the game in the bottom half. Keelia Trathen, a freshman, sent a two run blast over the left field fence earlier in the game.
This was the first game played on Watauga's field since the new fence was put up earlier in the week. The parents and coaches worked hard during the fall and winter to get proposals done for a new fence and upgrades to improve the facility. Watauga's new fence stands at 185 and brings the long ball into play. Improvements will continue throughout the year, and in the future, as we hope to make our facility one of the best around.
Alexander Central - 11
AC Reynolds - 0
AC come out with big bats and bigggggg defense.

4-1 - AC Reynolds (Beat EB 21-9, Beat Freedom, Beat Alexander 2-0, Beat Watauga 13-1, Lost to Alexander 11-0)
3-1 - Alexander (Beat McDowell 7-6, Beat EB 12-6, Lost to ACR 2-0, Beat AC Reynolds 11-0)
2-1 - McDowell (Lost to Alexander 7-6, Beat Watauga 5-3, Beat EB 4-3)

1-3 - East Burke (Lost to ACR 21-9, Beat S. Caldwell 4-3, Lost to Alexander 12-6, Lost to McDowell 4-3)
0-3 - Freedom (Lost to Watauga 13-3, Lost to AC Reynolds, Lost to S. Caldwell)
Big game today as McDowell travels to South Caldwell. Whoever finishes second in the conference this season will really be on the hot seat during the conference tournament as it will be very possible for the teams seeded 3-5 to put together a hot streak and win the tournament, thus knocking #2 out of the playoffs. With only two spots up for grabs this is shaping up to be the most competitive season ever in the NW4A.
Alexander visits Freedom and East Burke travels to Watauga today as well. Watauga and East Burke should be fun to watch. Watch out for Decker taking over the game with the long ball out of Watauga's new 185' fence. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember McDowell's Natalie Parker, who is coaching first base this year for the Lady Titans, hitting a ball over the tall fence at the end of the field at Watauga. Did I really see that?
Speaking of HR's... What are the fences in the NW4A?
Alexander - 215' (Deep enough for triples)
McDowell - 205' (Maybe 200' or 210')(Wind always blows in)
Reynolds - 250' (??? Deep enough for In-The-Park HR)
Watauga - 185' (Doubles or HR's only)
S. Caldw - 195' (??? Looks shorter?)
E. Burke - 190' (??? Wind blows out too?)
Freedom - 205' (Looks like a carbon copy of McDowell?)
Please post real dimensions if you know them. The HR race in the conference could be interesting with Krohn (?), Decker (?), Pritchard (?), Adams (?), Seiz (?) and others. Maybe someone can post the HR totals?
Pray for our troops!
Alexander Central - 4
Freedom - 2
AC struggled with hitting but still hung in there.
4 - 1 Conference play
Host Watauga Thurs. - South Caldwell Mon.
South Caldwell 5

I'm not sure how many homeruns Adams and Pritchard but I do know they have at least 3 apeice. Jessica Ford for SC has at least 2.
The fences at SC are exactly 200 ft. down the lines and 210 in center. So far no one has hit a ball out there as all the homeruns have been at other parks.

They looked alittle bit like their oldselves, but how can you say we struggled hitting on Tuesday and then turn right around and say the bats are on fire. Well, I will tell you myself! I play for AC, and yes on Tuesday our bats SUCKED! We only hit like two balls out of the infield! Tonight, we were all there 100%! Everyone hit like crazy! Leah Krohn was 4 for 4 with some AWESOME hits! Tonya Elder had some great hits, Kristi Lackey was 2 for 4 - being put on once, Hannah Fox showed up with her bat tonight, having a good hit to end the game in 6 innings! It was just a completely different ball game tonight than Tuesday! Thats just like the two AC Reynolds games! We hit right to people in the first one, and didn't do the small things righ and it costs us the game (2-0) and then this past Monday we played them, pulled our game back together, and beat them 11-0 in 5 innings! I just want to say that we are getting to the peak of our season and getting where we need to be! ;)

Well played game by Alexander. Crushed the ball all night. Krohn is just flat out mashing the ball, and Lackey kills the Pioneers every year.
Jadi Seiz seriously injured during a head first slide in the first inning. Somehow she slid into the shortstop and then slid across the ball or caught the edge of the bag, which caused the injury. Taken to Caldwell County hospital, and later transported to Baptist hospital in Winston. Last report was she'll be fine, but may require surgery. Please keep Jadi and her family in prayers.
FP Super - In Tues. game against Freedom I didn't want to say anything against our opponent but the pitching was waaayyyyy slower than we were used to and we struggled with that. And concerning the bigger bats, we are not bunting these runs in we are collectively smashing the ball to get these runs. I have heard this from several, I said several 3 and 4 year ball parents and fans that the hitting is greatly improved. I also think the ladies have been able to cover homeplate corner to corner. Just my opinion and observation nothing against any former AC players since individually there have been super athletes through the years, just think that as a team we are dividing out the big bats equally among the team and not relying on one or two to carry the team.
Rams12bb - I really hate to hear about the catcher. I was really looking forward to see her play. I noticed before the game and in the pregame warmup that she was a fireball. She did hit hard when she slid in. Our prayers are with her. Look forward to coming up the hill later.

ACFan, You must be on crack. You have several very good hitters on the team this season. Leah Krohn may be one of the best ever to wear an AC uniform. One of the reasons AC is hitting well is th e lack of competition. No Columbia Tournament, No Charleston, cancelled the Knoxville trip. When you play teams like Watauga, East Burke and etc, you are suppose to kill the ball. I read some place where AC had scored like 225 runs to conference opponents 10 over the last two seasons. Alexander has come back to the pack in a mediocre conference. I would dare say Watauga, Freedom, AC Reynolds or East Burke have even scored on AC over the past two seasons, and probably all have been 5 inning games.
AC has a storied and rich history, but in no way can this team hit like past teams. Point Blank. The real problem I have noticed is the team's sloppy defense. Players are not executing and not in the right place.
I think AC's strength is the hitting average pitchers. I also see polictics moving into the arena of softball. You can't tell me several of the players on starting spots this year wouldn't be there unless their dads were either in the dugout or riding around on a cart.
I do not want to be negative, but you are a rookie to the program. Mow the grass and pay your dues.
mountaindad - I will again say this is my opinion of what I have seen over the past few years and I am sure if this discussion was about who the best player ever to play everyone would have different opinions. And maybe the crack is polluting my vision ha ha. As of the politics of positions I hope (and it is hard to question her decisions because she is the one at practice everyday not us) she is putting the best team she can on the field and at the plate. Again this is the coach's decision and any other coach's decision. Sideline coaching has and will always bring down a program not lift it up. The help that is given at practice is because all but one coach quit the girls and they have been left one returning assistant coach, one new fastpitch coach that wasn't afforded a year or more of preparation just 2 days and a parent that gives up time on his job to hit to the girls when needed. Now if you or anyone else wants to take the time to help these ladies have a decent season despite everything that has been dumped in their laps see the coach and sign up. As far as paying dues the girls pay the dues by working hard not the parents by some time or work they happen to want to do. Also, all of the parent envolvement with the keeping the softball complex in good shape is one of the reasons AC has the nicest complex hands down. Hats off to the parents and coaches that laid down the foundation at AC. May be this work ethic needs to be implemented else where so you can also experience the excitement of having a nice place to play. One more thing --If I and other AC fans brag and boast on the good play of our Cougar ladies this will most definitely enhance their play not tear it down--TRY IT SOME TIME. CFball - didn't mean to mess up your thread sorry!

The AC facility was ultra nice. Watauga is right there with it now. I do like your 4 shades of green grass though. As for your coaches quitting, you might want to tell the adminstration to help hit a few ground balls. From what i understand, they are the ones who put the ladies in the situation they are in. We scored more runs on you in one night that we have in 10 years of playing you guys. I have never seen a program that was a dynasty fall off more than your program other than the tarheels. Maybe you can get get Daughtry to help coach. I have close friend in T-ville, why is Gene Price and Principal Steve Bumgarner at so many games this year?? Could it be the conduct of your coaches on this year's staff. There are lots of rumors floating around. Stats don't lie ,if you know what I mean.
Good Luck to the Lady Cougars and get your grass to one shade of green.

You sure came in with your guns blazing :D
Now Im not a big AC fan but the girls have been thru a lot this season. and it seems you you have some good points to make. But name calling is not the way to do it. As for the rumors they are just that until proven and no positive purpose is served by mentioning them on here. Differences of opinion is what makes this board fun. But we all need to strive to not let it develop into name calling and taunting, I dont know of many HS fields where the grass is that great yet. lets play nice kids.

For Watauga, catcher Jadi Seiz's season is over. Stopped prematurely by a freak injury suffered during a play in the Alexander Central game. It's a shame that a young lady that was Watauga's athlete of the week two weeks ago, has her career ended by injury. You can visit Watauga High School's website to read Jadi's athlete of the week page.
Sorry to hear about her injury, but what was it(type of injury) We wish her a quick recovery!

SC defense was perfect in this game and the big hits came when they needed them. SC has played very well in their last two games it looks like the girls have settled down now and started playing like they are capable of.
SC JV team also won. I think the score was 5-3. JVs are undefeated in the conference

I would like to thank all of the people who have spent countless hours on our softball complex. We are very lucky to have such dedicated people to volunteer their time to make our complex the BEST facility around. I'm just glad that our grass is green!!!! It reminds me that warm weather is on the way. I'm also proud of the girls in the way that they have come out of a very DIFFICULT beginning. They are going to be all right!!!!! Thanks to Coach Lingle for stepping forward to coach these girls without any time to prepare. She came into a situation that was very difficult (one that not just anybody would attempt). Also, thanks to the assistant coaches for caring about this team and seeing that the ACHS tradition goes on. Hang in there! Good luck on Monday AC Cougars. We've got faith in you guys!!!!!

Your right lots of people have put in a lot of hard work. Second AC and SC must be playing in Taylorsville today because it's raining.
Yes they do have the best softball facility around, but if not careful it'll come pack to the pack. I mean last year the grounds and tthe field looked like Augusta National, and those people are and should be proud your website says it won an award. This year however it looks like any local Brushy Mtn golf course. You know still good but not great.
:D GOD BLESS AMERICA AND HER TROOPS, WERE PROUD OF THE JOB YOUR DOING

At the last word, the game is still on between AC and SC. The game times have changed though. Varsity will play at 5:00 pm and the JV will play afterwards at 7:00 pm. It is 2:30 pm now. It may change by 5:00. Who knows???? Should be a very good game!!!!

Relative to AC.....it has been a very difficult situation this year. Unexpected coaching changes, a tragic death of one of the players, and enough upheaval to choke a goat. Hats off to Janel Lingle and ALL the other folks who have stepped up to help these girls have, not just a successful season, but a season at all. Before someone unrelated to the program speaks, perhaps they should get accurate information. Several players from last year's team graduated and of course the loss of Tiffany Crouse. It is a rebuilding year, and perhaps AC is not as sharp as in year's past, however, everyone deserves the chance to be successful. You know, are we playing a game here or is this some huge arena where politics and negative naysaying take over? Give the kids and coaches a break and let them play ball.

Why is the varsity game first? AC has lights and I believe there Varsity has earned the right to play in primetime.

Welcome to TBR Thinkin
Its folks like you and many others that realise that this is, after all is said and done, a game. Every player out there is someones little girl, and we should ALL treat them like they are our own. The last time I looked there were no overpaid HS softball coaches or groundskeepers out there. My hat off to All the fine folks that give there time and effort to help make this sport what is is.
South Caldwell - 6
Alexander Central - 3
SC come ready to hit and we didn't stop it all I can say!
I said before that this years cougars are the best hitting team and will continue stand behind this if it encourages the girls. I really don't care how its been done or who done it I only care that each girl finds out they need to do it to have a successful HS fastpitch career. If you don't like my philosophy thats tough. I love and respect any girl that stands 40 feet away from a girl throwing a hard yellow ball at them 60 miles an hour. Come back hard and tough AC.

JV ACHS - 9
JV S. Caldwell - 4 or 5(?)
AC had a few mistakes but the bats came in the 6th inning when AC scored 7 runs. Great game JV Ladies!!!!!
Varsity played first because of the threat of bad weather that could have arrived before the game was played if they played last. Wanted to make sure the game was played tonight.
Nice to see someone got their games in today!;) ;)

I went to the Alexander and South Caldwell game last night and despite the cold saw a really good and exciting game. I have to agree this Alexander team is one of the best hitting teams they have ever had. I have sen several of their games and with the exception of the Freedom game they have hit the ball very well.
I thought the difference last night was in experience. The South Caldwell team just looked a little more poised and never seemed to panic even when AC threatened. They look to have a very solid team on defence and can hit the ball from every spot in the line up. I also noticed good sportsmanship from both teams.
I just noticed one thing that I have never saw at Alexander Central, there seemed to be more South Caldwell fans than there were AC fans. Where were all the AC fans at?

As far as the fans go from AC, most of them did not know that there had been a change in times for the JV & Varsity games! We didn't find out as players until around 1:30 or 2! Plus you have to consider the weather it wasn't the best we have ever seen! Good game South! We'll see ya again in MAY!

AC Reynolds 12-2 (5-2) 8-1 winners over McDowell yesterday.
The field conditions were pretty good considering all the rain so that really wasn't a factor. The new pitcher for AC Reynolds (Huntley???) looked really strong. She walked a couple but she throws harder than anyone in the conference with the exception of South Caldwell's second pitcher. (Trifon???) played left field I think.
McDowell is 8-8 (3-3) and hosts Alexander Friday at 4:00 PM.

Alexander's Leah Krohn came to the plate in the top of the 8th inning with a runner on first and hit the ball about 230' for the game winning HR to end a fabulous pitching duel between Bartlett and Pierce. McDowell is now 8-9, (3-4)
McDowell's JV team looked impressive going up 8-1 early and cruising to a 8-4 win in six innings. McDowell's JV team is now 5-2 in conference play.

South Caldwell 8
East Burke 4
Lots of hitting in this game. both pitchers were hit hard although decker for East Burke did have several strikeouts. I didn't think this was one of SC's better games.
reporter, thanks for the scores and the records for the first half but will you try and get the overall records for each.....SC,AC and Reynolds are are worthy of possible top 10 in the High School Poll. Thanks again!

I don't know any of the overall records of AC and Reynolds. South Caldwell is 9-2 overall 6-1 in conference.

South Caldwell 9
East Lincoln 8
SC is now 10-2 overall 7-1 in conference. They play Watagua at South on Monday and Freedom away on Tuesday. Good luck girls.
scfan, nice payback from the last meeting in Denver! Sure the mustangs needed a tough 4A team to mix with their somewhat soft, conference schedule. Any box score on this game and did anyone report this Score to ihigh.com via Email???
Cfball; I don't know if anyone reported to ihigh. I don't know who does that for South. As for the payback SC won the first game at East Lincoln also. Their only 2 losses were to St. Stephens and East Burke. The EL girls are tough and can hit very good. I think I heard someone say they have only lost 2 games this year both to South. They should do very well in the playoffs. As for box scores on the game All I can give you is what is in the paper today.
Winning pitcher: winebarger complete game
Adams 3 for 4, 1 rbi
Townsend 2 for 3, 1 rbi
Benfield 2 rbi's
Foard 1 rbi
I think Foard, Austin, Winebarger, and Walker all had a hit and Benfield had 2 hits. Adams Hit a bomb that probbally went 250 ft. or more but it was foul by a couple of feet. Foard had the game winning hit rbi double in the bottom of the sevevth. I don't know any of the stats on East Lincoln but they had several hits and hit the ball well all night.
SC also won a very exciting jv game coming from behind to win in the last inning on an inside the park homerunn by Kara Hawkins.

Bartlett pitched well and picked up the complete game win. Jadi Seiz returned to the Watauga dugout for the first time since her injury at Alexander in early April. She couldn't stay for the entire game, but it was nice to see her return to the ball field.

I think this isn't the NW4A but I wasn't sure where to put the score. Forbes had 3 hits, Queen and Starnes had a two a piece, and many other players hit the ball well as you can tell from the score. Clontz and both Queens pitched this game.
The Indians are now 14-2 and play RS Central Friday.

Alexander beat EB 6-0 tonight. AC's Price was 4 for 4 at the plate. EB only had one hit the whole night I think. They got their bats on the ball some but AC's defense was on it. A good game for AC's senior night.....AC's JV took EB in 5 innings 15-3.
