i guess there pretty good, i think there 7-0 or 8-0 and they're going down to florida friday to play some impressive competition. they beat a solid richmond senior team tonight 7-2. is this the best team around? please post your opinions....

Christian can play with any team in Charlotte, no doubt about that. They have to be in any top 5 with Providence, North Meck and South Meck. Hopewell, Myers Park and East could join that group, but they've been inconsistent so far -- maybe still figuring out the right lineups. Still not sure about Butler. And even though they've had a poor start, believe it or not I'm not ready to give up completely on Independence.
Is Christian the best -- I don't know. They probably have the best player, but I don't believe they have the quality depth that some of the others have. They can play with them, though, in any game or in any short series -- it would be great to see what they could do in the SW4A if they played a full conference schedule. I've got to say, though, that after just looking over the South Meck lineup the other night it is hard to believe any team can keep up with them over the long haul. Quality and depth at every position. Even with the loss to North, South would have to be at the top of my list.
I really admire the program that Coach Simmons has developed at Christian. The quality schedule he puts together is one of a kind. I look forward to hearing how they do against Westminster Academy (talk about a program) and Miami Christian -- 2 premier national powers, in Florida this weekend. Don't we all envy that trip?

(that's NCBBall and me in the Florida sun watching the girls kiss on Braves)
And the much hoped for South Meck -- Christian game in the Shelby tourney -- we are all looking forward to that one as one of the games of the year -- sure hope those Shelby boys don't ruin it for us (but they could). :stfu:

There is a high probability that they are #1.
Given a 1 games series with any other team and a fully rested pitching staff, you have to give it to Christian.
Given a 2 game series matching #1's vs #1's, 2's vs 2's on the mound, they begin to get some splits with some area teams.
The teams that could play multi-game series against them head-to-head would be South Meck, Myers Park, Providence. They have the necessary depth & experience. Those are my top 4 teams in Charlotte.

charlotte christian's game vs. Central Florida Christian (3/17) and North Broward Prep (3/18) were both canceled due to rain. they will play 2 games tomorrow (3/19). one against douglas highschool, and the other against either Central Florida Christian or North Broward Prep.

I'll give you a little more detail:
The first game at Westminster neither team hit the ball at all. Daniel Bard did not have his control and hit 5 batters and walked a few more. The Westminster pitcher is the best I've seen all year. Basically, we handed them the game, and their one hit was a grand slam. All 3 runners on were either walked or HBP. In the second game we went down 2-0 headed into the fifth. Carrara hit a 2 run HR to tie the game and in the 7th, Bard hit the game winning double. In the Douglas game, Najaka made one mistake in the first inning and the guy hit a 3 run HR. After that, Michael pitched real well. Douglas just allowed us to be in the game way too long and in the 7th we just hit the ball around, and Douglas made some errors. But that Douglas team ws the best team we played down there; they are ranked #1 in the 6A poll in Florida. All in all, I think our trip was very successful and will help us down the road a lot.

Great weather and a fine pitching performance by Daniel Bard. Charlotte Christian wins 2-0 over Hendersonville.
Daniel was throwing consistently in the low 90's and touched 93 and 94 five or six times. His slider/cut fastball at times was very tough. The scouts were out in force today. Probably 8 guns clocking. Scouts from the Reds, Yankees and White Sox were spotted. Christian's defense was good. On to Monday game at 4:00 at CC.
More details to follow.
