I've been hearing some mutterings that RJ Reynolds may be ready to make some moves in the the CPC and contend for the 4A crown out of the Winston-Salem area?
We know a little about the schools in Forsyth County ... can someone out there "enlighten" us... That's some good baseball being played.

reynolds is a much improved team. they have had a couple transfers. they have two good pitchers and hit the ball well. they may make a run at the title. west, davie and north davidson all have a chance also.

What are the prospects this season in the Metro 4A? There are some good teams playing out of that area:
East Forsyth, Grimsley, Mount Tabor, North Forsyth, Northwest Guilford, Page
Is North Forsyth going to run away with the conference or can NW Guilford make a run at them this year?
What does N. Forsyth have? Are the a hitting team,defensive,pitching,etc..?Aleaxander plays the in 2 Fridays, just wondering..

They are supposed to be really good .. they are one of the top pre-season picks and are coming off of a 20-6 record last year.
We haven't made the contacts yet up that way ...... when you guys do play them, tell them about our board... maybe they will start visiting ... love to have some input from "up north and east!!"

1. WEST FORSYTH LOADED WITH TALENT SHOULD BE BETTER THAN LAST YEAR WITH MOST RETURNING FROM THE STATE RUNNER UP TEAM . KEY LOSS ERIK WALKER(UNCC) ALOT OF GOOD TALENT.
2. SOUTH ROWAN COULD MAKE A RUN AT WEST FORSYTH. EXCELLENT PITCHING STAFF RUN PRODUCTION A ?. SHOULD BE A GOOD TEAM.
3. R.J.REYNOLDS A PRETTY DECENT TEAM NOT REALLY A CONTENDER LOST SOME PLAYERS TO NORTH FORSYTH.ATHLETIC IN SOME POSITIONS.
4. DAVIE COUNTY USE TO DOMINATE THIS CONFERENCE VERY YOUNG TEAM STARTING SEVERAL FRESHMEN AND SOPHMORES DON'T LOOK FOR THIS TEAM TO BE DOWN LONG.
5. NORTH DAVIDSON COULD BATTLE FOR THE 3 SPOT 1 EXCELLENT PITCHER AND A COUPLE OF OUTSTANDING PLAYERS BUT NOT QUITE ENOUGH TO GET OVER THE HUMP.

NORTH FORSYTH HAS 2 VERY GOOD PITCHERS IN HOBSON AND LARRIMORE. HOBSON HAS SIGNED AT STATE AND LARRIMORE AT WESTERN. THEIR SHORTSTOP HAS ALSO SIGNED AT WESTERN. A VERY GOOD TEAM WITH THEIR STRENGTH IN PITCHING AND DEFENSE. RUN PRODUCTION MAY BE THEIR BIGGEST QUESTION MARK. WHEN THEY GET THE STICKS GOING THEY WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT TO BEAT. THEIR ONLY LOSS IS TO WEST FORSYTH 4-1

I think Catamount has North pegged. They have good pitching again this year. Although off to a slow start after running into a very tough RJ Reynolds team last week, East Forsyth is much improved over last season in just about all areas. They just have to put it all together.
It's hard to stack up to North in pitching, but East did get P/CF Adam Tesh(Senior) from Parkland and returned P/3B Ryan Basham(Junior) which will give them very formidable 1 and 2 starters. Tesh is going to USC-Spartanburg and is good and competitive lead-off hitter, and Basham is a late-bloomer/young junior who worked very hard this winter on his own and then performed very well at Impact in Wilmington(December) making their Top 11 list and at Perfect Game Underclassman in Ft. Myers(January) starting for his team in the Top Prospect Game and making the High Honorable Mention List. I think he has more talent than most realize and maybe he realizes. He'll be touching 90 before the season is over.
After that, East will have to depend on a few pitchers to fill in the holes but their hitting is twice as good as last year and that, along with their top 2 pitchers and after they get rolling into coference, may be enough to overtake North. I think it will be interesting.
Not as familiar with how Grimsley, Mt. Tabor, Page and NW Guilford is doing this year so I'll let someone else give detail on those but I think that Grimsley returned most of their team from last year so should at least be improved.
Page does have Adam Daufeldt(LHP-Junior) who can be dominating at times and I think Mt. Tabor is off to a slow start as well. I don't believe any of these other teams have the talent, on paper, to hang with North or East. But you don't play them on paper, so we'll see.

Yeah, West beat North 4-1 against both Larimore and Hobson. West only got 6 hits but North only had 4. With their hitting, their pitching and defense has to be about perfect. Crotts pitched for West.

Sounds like the West-North game was a great game. You have 2 of the 3 best teams in Forsyth County playing each other. I think with these two teams along with Glenn the Forsyth County Tournament should be a good one. You also have to watch out for Reynolds to pull off a upset if any team looks past them.
I know North is a great team, but I think West gets overlooked very often and that is a shame.

Definitly think that West is ahead of the class in this conference. They are just to deep and just to good. I think if the continue to swing the bat it will be hard for them to be beaten. I think that the battle for second between Reynolds, S.Rowan, Davie, and N.Davidson should be a good one. I think that Rowan and Reynolds should be the real battle for 2nd. Being from Forsyth County this should be fun to watch.

I DON'T THINK THAT ANYONE WILL BE OVERLOOKING REYNOLDS. IT IS PRETTY OBVIOUS THAT THEY ARE A MUCH IMPROVED TEAM AND WILL BE VERY COMPETTITIVE THIS YEAR. THEY HAVE 1 ALREADY SIGNED D1 (BOEHME AT ELON) YOUNG SHORTSTOP AND SOME GOOD PITCHING

It's great to get some feedback from the CPC & Metro area.... let others know about the board ... we've been wanting to move North and East from down here in Charlotte.
If you guys could send me schedules for teams in your conference, I'll post the schedules with the others on the board.... we are trying to get most of the western part of the state this year.

homerun, what is your take on west forsyth and the rest of the cpc. give us a run down on each team as you see them. you sound like you have some up close knowledge on that area. i agree that west has to work hard to come close to last year, but i think the talent is there if they can find a good relief guy and/or 3rd starter to help out poindexter and crotts

from what i hear. west started the boone kid who didn't have his best stuff that day (threw 4 shutout innings against northwest) and then brought in a junior. spotted them about 7 runs then came back to bring the game to 8-9 score. i think they had about 11 hits that game. watauga is a good competitive team with a great coach in hardee.

So, up in the CPC & Metro Conf, West & North Forsyth are both sitting on 1 loss so far .... sounds like an exciting year ... who's hanging tough with them?

North and West both won on Sat. North won 7-6 and West won 12-2 (5 innings). Mt Lebanon, PA also played North Davidson on Friday and won that game.
West also beat NW Guilford 10-2 on 3-24-03.

Glenn/SW Guilford game was a great baseball game!! Marion went all 8 innings, surprising after being out for 2 weeks after ankle injury but a half a dozen pro scouts got to see him top out at 93 and stay consistent around 90. He was definitely tired by the 7th and 8th hanging his curve and giving up a homer to Chris Norwood. SW Guilford who on paper is no match for Glenn played great and actually deserved the win. But it was a clean game and ended the way the home crowd in Kernersville expected it to but only about 4 innings later. Marion did look good though.
NC-Dad does North Forsyth have anymore games this week before Friday?And if so who do you think will pitch?
Alexander Central only game scheduled between now and Friday!
Gib Hobson will most likely start!

Adam Tesh will start for East. I'm guessing Poindexter will pitch for West. Crotts just pitched Monday. Should be an excellent game!
Ajax-from what I've heard so far Hobson has topped out at 89. He will definitely get better as the season goes on! East plays them on April 8th for a Metro conf game!

NC DAD THANKS FOR HELPING US OUT WITH THE SCORES FROM THE TRIAD. A SMALL CORRECTION ON THE EAST WEST GAME THE FINAL SCORE WAS 10-4. WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT OTHER CPC TEAMS?? Reynolds is a very good hitting team. Not sure about South Rowan. East plays North Davidson at home Fri! Ryan Basham will start for East. Thanks for the correction. I'm also keeping up with the Metro conf standings in the conference thread.
NC-Dad, can you tell me anything about North's hitting and team speed?
North's team speed is average. Their bats are definitely their weak link. The three wonder kids are the ones to watch out for. Larimore, Bowles and Hobson. Freshman lhp Addison Johnson has been making alot of noise. He plays left field when not pitching and has a hot bat! He's got around 18 strikeouts in 2 games!
Would you say a overpowering pitcher (mid-high 80's) or a (low-mid 80's)with a lot of breaking pitches would be more effective against them?Also, do those 3 play every game?Hobson,Larrimore,and Bowles?Do they hit for power (homeruns) or for base hits?Also are they sound on defense?Do they have a nice field?
All four players mentioned play every game. They all hit decently- base hits mostly. Bowles at ss Larimore at 3rd and Hobson at first -when they are not pitching! Bowles is one of the best shortstops in the state. Bowles and Larimore are headed to Western Carolina. Hobson to NC State. They just got lights in the early spring. Nice field-L310-C370-R310

West Forsyth is not running hot / cold. Must have been just one of those nights. I know that their 2 best starters have already thrown this week. West is still one of the better teams in the Western half of the state.

I know they are very good. Everyone has "those games". Is Mt. Tabor strong? (I may have phrased my question poorly)
OBTW: I forgot that this isn't a conference matchup also. Still learning the teams/conferences up that way ..... sorry.
Mt. Tabor's John Hardy is a very good pitcher! Tabor hit the ball really well. Ob Taylor had a good offensive game-3-4 2 runs and 3 rbi's! One of his hits was a hr. That's 5 of their 7 runs!

I had forgotten that Morini was at Glenn. He was a great power-hitting outfielder the last time I saw him (dead pull hitter). Didn't know he pitched. Was Glenn out of regular starters?
Can you give us some updates on him?
Morini can still Crush the ball! He is the starting centerfielder. He can pitch-did'nt get alot of experience last year(as a freshman) on a team full of seniors. After the Big Dog Ryan Marion they will have to have somebody to step up on the mound. Southwest Guilford gave them a surprisingly good game Tue. but other than that this was their first test!
PS-To Morini's credit the score was 3-0 when he left the game!

We gotta add that kid back to the "Watch list". If I remember, he could fly in the outfield and had a true right-fielders arm. He belongs in that elite list of "05" players like Maybin from TC and Martin from Ashbrook. Thanks for the update NCD...

Got to see the East/N.Davidson game. East is up and down so far this season with inconsistent hitting but have a little momentum going into their first conference game against a good NW Guilford team. After N.Davidson throttled Glenn, 12-1, I figured it would be a good game but Basham pitched a really good game for East in only his second start of any length this season. The only run N.Davidson got was picked off earlier so should have been a shutout. Basham's velocity is about where it should be at this point of the year getting closer to upper 80s each time out. There were really only 2 or 3 solid contacts in his 5+ innings. He gave up only 2 hits with 90% of his pitches being fastballs so he's in good shape when he begins using all his pitches.

I got to watch a little of the S. Guilford game that Hicks pitched the other day. That kid is awesome. No weak spots on the team either.

there are quite a few lookers in the stands at the Tiger games.
Whited got busted stealing home in the 8th. Gutsy call - coulda won the game. Although a hit would have too.

I seen some of them Ragsdale boys at a UNC camp this winter.
Wrenn is a pretty good pitcher.
Is Gator pitching ?
What about the Sink kid, i seen him run 60's against the fastest guy from South Carolina and smoke him...
If that group has an American Legion team this summer i think they can do very well...
Gator went in for late inning relief - probably had worn out all our best arms. Wrenn paitched the day before - and Hicks pitched 3 innings of relief up to the 11th.
Sink is good - good bat, good glove and knows how to run the bases.
They are just a solid all around team

I also spoke with another coach who told me he checks the board each day for his hometown schools games...he can't get the info from anywhere else as quickly
