Summerville Tournament

Just got back from Summerville and saw some great teams. (39 total teams) A young Kings Mountain team went 3-1 and won their pool. KM starts 6 freshmen, 1 sophomore and 2 seniors! In the first game, KM beat an undefeated Lexington, SC (Big Sixteen) team 3-1. Freshman pitcher, Kristyn Funderburke, got the win behind a great defensive effort.
In the second game, KM was beaten 7-5 by Goose Creek in a game that had to resort to the International tie-breaker. Senior Pam Parker started the game and Funderburke came in relief. Freshman LaRhonda McClain had 3 hits and freshman Brittany Thornburg had 2 hits.
In the third game, KM won 14-1 vs Holly Hills Academy. Parker got the win. McClain had 4 hits.
In the final game, KM won 3-1 against Wade Hampton. Funderburke went the distance holding Wade Hampton to 2 hits.
The top five hitters for the year for KM are freshmen.

Has always been a nice tournament this time of the year! Teams come together, weather is nice and the Players who are Just That, stand out! Our St. Stephens game was rained out and I believe is rescheduled for May 7. They beat us 4-3 at their place(Funderburke got the loss).
KM plays this Tuesday at home against Burns and Thursday at RS Central. First meeting, KM beat Burns (Funderburke win) and was beaten by RS (Funderburke loss).
