Beer Tour

Got the first part of one of my Christmas presents the other day. The little lady gave me a one year membership to Michael Jackson's Beer Tour (yeah, I know, the guy's gotta change his name).

You get 12 beers (six each of two brands, imported) every month. The first shipment was Carlsberg 47 from Denmark (I'd had regular Carlsberg before; this is better) and Old Suffolk from England. The Old Suffolk is some good shit: dark, but not as heavy as an Irish stout, with a pretty good kick to it. I drank one of each Friday night and then inhaled some ether and I was pretty much set for the evening.

Beer for Christmas, and for an entire year. What a gal.

I'm not gonna renew my membership, it's just too damned expensive for not knowing what you're gonna get. I've found that one in four brands aren't good. One Belgian ale I got was just plain filthy. I'll be going up the the Beers of the World store in Rochester Labor Day weekend and stocking up for fall. I've got about $300 set aside for my initial purchase, which will last until close to Thanksgiving, then I'll be going back to drop another wad. When the beer costs anywhere from $3 to $20 a bottle, it adds up quick.

Don't know if you've ever thought about making your own, but it is a lot cheaper and and easy to do. Ask sly - he has had some of mine. If you ever start brewing, let me know and I'll be happy to do all I can to help.

it's cheaper to cook your own beer? how much is the start-up fee? and how much would it cost to make a case of bud-light equivelant?

A beer you guys have to try is "Blackend Voodoo Lager" it's a Dixie beer... Kind of like a Pete's Wicked without so much of an after taste.. I would love to learn how to make my own been is much trouble??? Expense??
