Anyone have a laptop they want to get rid of for about $500? I'm not really concerned about speed too much. I just want a little mobility in my life.

Just my opinion, but used laptop is going to have a weak battery.

OK, I know I said speed wasn't a huge thing, but DAMN. The lsast time I saw a 300 mHZ, Fred Flintstone was throwing it out. I can get a 1gHZ at work for 750, it may be worth my while to spend that extra little bit. I figured for $500 I could get at least 7oo MHZ, 64 MB and 10 GB.

Then I would look for an open box buy. I see them in the paper, internet ready for $299, but they're really bad.
Actually, 300 is pretty good if your just getting online, using lo-res pics, and stuff like that, but if your doing video and high-end graphics, then yea, spend the money. Sometimes, Buy.com will have a one day sale that's a steal, so check back, overstock.com does too.

Mark, go to www.overstock.com and do a search for laptops. The currently are listing this right now:
Toshiba Tecra 520CDT 166MHz Laptop
Our Price: $459.95 List Price: $699.00 You Save: $239.05
The Toshiba Tecra 520CDT is the ultimate balance between affordability and performance in a convenient all-in-one notebook computer. This laptop features 64MB of system memory, a 12.1-inch display, and a 2GB hard drive.
I'll sell you mine. I'm not using it that much anymore and could use the extra cash to start paying off student loans.
It's a IBM Thinkpad 600E
Here are the specs.
PII366
288 megs of RAM (it's maxed out)
13.3 Active Matrix screen
12 gig harddrive
24x CD rom
external floppy
56k internal modem
Port replicator
the battery's dead but I usually plug it in anyway.
It's in excellent condition.
If you want, we could work something out. I paid 650 for it about 4 months ago and since I'm about to graduate, wont' need it anymore.
