Scan Shows Schilling Has Broken Hand

PHOENIX (Reuters) - Curt Schilling of the Arizona Diamondbacks will be out of action indefinitely with a broken right hand, the team announced Tuesday.

Schilling was twice hit on the hand during a game in San Diego Friday.

X-rays taken after the game were negative but a precautionary MRI scan was taken Tuesday and it discovered a hairline fracture and a bone chip in the third and fourth metacarples.

Schilling joins fellow Arizona pitcher Randy Johnson on the sidelines.

Johnson recently had knee surgery and is not expected back for at least three weeks.

Schilling has a 4-3 record with a 3.04 ERA. On Monday he was fined about $15,000 by Major League Baseball for smashing a machine that monitors umpires.

Left-hander Chris Capuano was called up from Triple-A Tucson and will start in Schilling's place in the Interleague game against the Chicago White Sox Wednesday.

Just add him to the list. We're not gonna have any pitchers left by the end of the season.
