Russ Ortiz leaves after pitching 5 full innings, is leading yet still gets a no desicion. Is it because the lead was lost (I didn't watch the game) Braves Pirates Boxscore (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=230608115)
I think the winning pitcher is the pitcher on record when the winning run is scored. But I'm not sure, I could be way off base.
Get it - way off base? haw haw, geez....
You're both right. If the lead is lost after a pitcher leaves the game, he is not eligible for the W. And as Mr. Yuck said, the pitcher on record at the time the go ahead run scores is the one who will get the W.

The way it looks to me Ortiz left after pitching 5 innings up 6-4. UNLESS the Braves scored the winning runs in the bottom of the fifth. Didn't look that close. I was just going by the fact that when Ortiz left he was up 6-4 and left empty handed.

Game was tied 4-4 when Ortiz left the game.
