View Full Version : Pitchers Duel, or Slugfest?
Which type of game do you prefer to watch, a good old fasion pitchers duel, or an all out slugfest?
I'm definitely a pitchers duel type gal...I'd much rather see a close game than see balls flying out of the park every three minutes.

i say pitchers duel. it makes all the little small things all that more important. sac bunt/fly, hit and run, so on. nothing better than watching managers manage.

the intesity of the duel is out of hand especially when it bleeds over into the bullpen.

Pitchers duel - without a doubt. I can't stand 14-12 baseball games. The rise of the stand around and wait for a homer approach to baseball makes me want to puke. Fucking Earl Weaver.

Why can't it be both?
Lots of offense in the first 4 innings but the game is still close. Then the last 3 innings the pitchers work their magic.

Bless you. When I moved here to MD and discovered many people viewed "2 walks and a 3 run homer" as a good offense I thought I would puke too.
Give me a 2-1 game that lasts 2:45 any day of the week. I'd get back into baseball if I could have that type of game back.

There's a difference between a duel and good pitching from the pen...in my opinion anyway. A duel is a faceoff between the starting pitchers. When it comes to the pen you've got 2 or 3 different guys coming in...it's just not the same.
Btw sly...what happened to the other 2 innings?

I'll take a pitching duel provided the guys with the sticks are putting the ball in play and there's some great defense involved. Simply watching guys whiff and not even coming close is kinda boring.
Pitchers duel. Keep the game moving. But I agree with another poster - I don't want to see everyone K. Put the ball in play, for chrissakes.
This is why college baseball is unbearable. Fucking metal bats. Those games take four hours on a regular basis.

i happen to think college ball is better than the majors...its all about the love, or better yet the corruption of money in the bigs. that said, i need to rephrase that to top-flight college baseball. those 15-14 games are a bore. sorry to get off subject.

I have a feeling if this question was asked back in 1968, the answer would have been slugfest. You always want what you can't have.
The umpires are to blame. The rule book still says armpits to knees, dammit!!!!
