I think it's all a ruse to make people watching tv think that they are talking aboutr stuff in a secret code. the catcher just moves his hands randomly and junk.
haha... well, I used to pitch, so I can tell you that the signals do have a meaning - however, in that entire set of hand motions, only one actually MEANS something.

bullshit, i think the pitcher just decided what he's going to throw and the cather likes patting his balls and the base coaches like scratching their arms and adjusting their caps .

all those funguses you catch in a mens locker room shower can be pretty itchy:D
on a serious note tho, there are meanings to the signs. like TF said tho, only one or two of those signs mean anything.

If you doubt that the catcher has to control the game just look at all of the catchers who are managers (Soscia, Wedge, Brenley, etc.). Now look at all the pitchers who are managers.
