Lowell I think is leading NL in homers and he backs up Rolen? As much as I want the fans to have a say so this is a glaring travesty. That and Rolen can snap a leg ANYTIME soon (coming from a disgruntled Phillie fan that will never forget the screw job he put on the Phillies)

Just proves 2 things..........1) Fans need less input to the vote (see Matsui's & Rolen's selection).

2) Guaranteeing each team a spot is absurd. (A. Benitez over Willis ??? But the problem is, there is no one else worth thinking about on the worst team in baseball.) Teams as bad as the Mets and the Tigers should be represented by their trainers and/or locker room management staff....not actual players.

On side notes...........I realize that "Chicks dig the long ball" but I'd rather see Sean Casey than Aaron Boone as a rep from my Reds....but Guillen was the MOST deserving candidate.

G HR RBI OBP SLG AVG
S Casey 81 9 42 .351 .429 .299
A Boone 85 15 51 .331 .469 .267
J Guillen 71 17 44 .404 .650 .350

Also, there seem to be more closers on both pitching staffs than I remember from previous games.

How can you even try to make a case that Andruw Jones Shoued not have make it AVG.289 22Hr 60Rbi is a very good number If you want Lieberthal then Wolf wouid have not to make it + each team must have 1 player make the all start team

I've watched Matsui play everyday and I'll tell you he deserves to make this team, but probably not as a starter. He plays very well in the field, and is even playing CF for Bernie Williams and doing an outstanding job. It took him some time to adjust, but now he is playing unbelievable. If there is a runner in scoring position he will get him in, hence the high RBI amount with not so many home runs.

The fact that the game actual means something now should have done away with each team getting a representative and with the fan voting. Home field advantage is an extremely important thing in the World Series lately and now the NL might be depending on Benitez in the bottom of the 9th to hold the AL sluggers...

Varitek should be starting.

07-07-03, 04:41 PM

NL
lowell over rolen
vidro over giles (this is from a braves fan, vidro gets NO props)

AL

lance carter from the d-rays? (huff? baldelli?)
blalock over glaus
no jose guillen? (wtf?)
no dontrell willis? (again, wtf?)
wheres bill mueller? (.330, .402, .559)

Dukie read my post. I am not saying a word about Wolf. Lieberthal is batting around .350 and should go in place of La Duca. Omitting Willis was a travesty for a sport that is trying to get fans interest. My basic point is Sheffield is the better of the 2 Atlanta OF, this year. The Pirates have to have a participants why not put Giles in there instead of Jones and then Willis in there instead of Williams (Pitt reliever)

Personally I am not opposed to enlarging the rosters to 3 at each position. Call it A,B,C players. A players play 1-3 innings, and so on. Everyone gets at least one at bat. That makes 27 position players per team. Then a 13 man pitching staff. Either that or have alternate All-Star players to ammend the rosters

I think you mean what Dusty Baker said about the heat not getting to the blacks and Latinos. You think had a white guy said that he might have caught some grief? I respect the hell out of Baker but he is far from an authority. Just proves ignorance knows no skin color

that Lowell should start over Rolen, and that Magglio Ordonez & Frank Thomas being left off as reserves sucks...Loaiza gets in and Everett does to, but Everett should wear a Rangers uni for the game--he put up all his numbers with Texas. I'm glad he's in a Sox uni now, but Ordonez and Thomas are having decent enough years to have garnered a little home town help...maybe I'm biased being a White Sox fan....I'm not afraid to admit that.....

I played 1995 and 96 with him in Erie and Lynchburg (where he was Carolina League MVP). I actually got the first W in Erie's new ballpark in 95 due to a Jose Guillen 10th inning bomb off the civic center in left. I nor anyone else liked him, but he could play, and he has the best arm on planet earth......period.
