View Full Version : I will amaze you
Tomorrow morning, I'm going to weigh myself.
I think it will be the first time that I've weighed myself in Tallahassee. I haven't wanted to know how much weight I've put on since moving down here. I tried Atkins for a while a few months ago, but I never weighed myself -- I just know my pants fit better.
When I left Charlotte, I was about 190. In a perfect world, I'd be 179. I'm guessing that I'm about 225 right now, but that's just a guess. I an carry it well, but I'd rather not carry it anymore. We'll see just how much I've been sucking it in come tomorrow.
I need to document it to get me started. I need to see exactly how fat I'v allowed myself to get to motivate me. That "see how my pants fit" strategy was a cop-out.
But, once I get started, I become militaristic about my weight loss. All of the unhealthy food choices I've made in the past year -- pizza, fries, chips, sodas, burgers, etc. -- won't even enter my mind.
I will drink lots of water and exercise. I'm going to try doing Winsor Pilates with Gina, so if anyone has any experiene with this, let me know. I'm going to be more active and stop using the extreme heat here as an excuse to stay indoors. I'm going to stop eating after I get home from work. I'm going to eat more vegetables such as brocolli. I'd add potatoes and pasta in there, but I know those are loaded with carbs, so I'll have to figure out how to deal with that.
Before knowing my starting weight, I can say that my goal is to fit comfortable into my size 34 pants (dare I say 32s???), get down to 189 pounds and fit into all of the great clothes in my closet. I atually have a fear that someone I know will die and I won't be able to fit into any of my dozen suits for the funeral. How selfish is that???
Anyway, here's to getting started on a positive note. I'm drinking a glass of water before hitting the sack tonight.
This will be my ongoing thread.

don't feel so bad about the pasta and potatoes. i know the atkins no-carb thing is popular now, but there isn't really anything wrong with carbs. yes, in abundance, they will hinder a weight-loss program, but anything will, even veggies and tuna. caloric intake is whats to be watched. monitor that, if you're not gaining weight, and you eat less than you are now, then you'll lose. more, you'll gain. yes, high-fat foods are not good, but they are also higher in calories. so by watching the calories you'll be able to see what you're eating and avoid some of those. pasta and potatoes are an excellent source especially if you're working out. they provide energy, which your body needs to perform. well-balanced is the key. of course, a baked potatoe loaded with sour cream and cheese is an exception. watch the toppings.
i weigh a lot more than i thought, so that's disappointing. however, it will be nice to say that i took off 50+ pounds, come november.
but there it is, documented, for the world to see.
i wish that i hadn't let myself go like that, but i really didn't want to move down here. i think that shedding these pounds will give me a new outlook on living in tallahassee.
damn, 241.5.

i'm barely 6-0, but i can carry it -- mostly in my ass, neck and stomach.

go ahead and start a thread. i said that in the sticky thread you can just keep track of how much you've lost -- regardless of starting point.
for me, i need to put it out there to make it real.
and i'm really fat.
im amazed that you could even weigh 241. you're about my height.

j/k
i'm glad you don't think i look like i weigh that much. i wish it weren't true, but i've got a lot of work ahead of me. i figure that i need to have a routine. in charlotte, i had a great routine.
i was up at 5 a.m., out at 5:30, work at 6, home by 3. getting your work out of the way that early frees you up to stay usy and productive for hours. then, when the crap is on the tv at night, you don't feel the need to watch it because you're tired and have to get up at 5 a.m.
had turkey sandiwch for lunch and spaghetti for dinner.
snacked on pretzels.
very little water today.
at work, i will drink water. loads of it. it'll freak you out how much water i will drink in a day of work.

if you read further, you'd see that i guessed way wrong.
i weighed in -- and i amazed myself. not sure how this happened, but i'm not going to question it. the worst thing i put into my body this past week was two diet pepsis and a diet coke. i drank bunches of water, a glass of skim milk a day (at the most) and ate turkey sandwiches and potato soup. i had some baked lays, wow chips (both from subway) and a few pretzels. i ate a box of total cereal, too. that was about it for the week, though. i radically changed my diet and this was the result.
i'm not expecting this result each week -- or even half of it. but by my calculations, i will lose 60 pounds by the first of november.
i start my cardio this week, so that should help, too.
good luck to everyone -- if i can do it, you can, too. just look at the difference ONE week makes!
absolutely awesome results. Just remember that weight loss in the first week or so is almost totally water loss, so don't expect anywhere near those results afterwards. You'll be doing GREAT to lose that much per month...

Depends on how you look at it Fruitay. Yes it is water weight but it is from water stored in fat cells in the muscle. When ever you are burning fat you are losing water weight.

Not really. You lose a ton of weight in the first week of most diets because you cut total intake, which has a byproduct of cutting your salt intake tremendously, so you don't retain as much water.
your right foot is chubbier than your left...even the toes dont look like they match with the other feet. you get that right foot lose some and you should be good to go. that's where all the weight is!
start a thread? hmmmm...k

i know i didn't lose 12 pounds of fat (i wish) but i drank gallons of water that week -- how does that factor into it all?

PISS. Pee it straight, stupid!
Carbohydrates are stored in muscle (glycogen)...about 400 grams for a normal sized person. Another 80-100 grams are stored in the liver. Before you burn fat, you burn the glycogen, more so if you workout (like you are). Each gram a glycogen has about 4 grams of water with it.
i'm down to 228.0
i'll post the pic later.
i didn't do much last week as far as cardio goes. i only ate "bad" twie -- monday i had mexican dinner (but it was chicken fajitas) and sunday i had three pieces of pizzza (but that was all i ate that day). i had a few beers and a few diet drinks. i didn't drink as much water as i would like. i really felt like i was losing my motivation this week -- like i just wanted to say, "screw it." but i kept treading water and ended up losing a pound and a half.
this week needs to be about getting my body moving. that's my next step.
i weighed in at 225.5 this week. i've got pictures, but the computer at home is unplugged due to painting.
all i've done is adjust my diet, really. i'm not drinking as much water and i'm drinking more diet pepsi.
i'm going to keep eating well and walk a couple of times each week for the next couple of weeks.
gina and i will start the working out stuff when ty starts school -- aug 20 -- so that we can get into a set routine. she moved around her work schedule, too.
my goal is still to be at 180 when november rolls around. that's 46 more pounds. i'm down 16 so far.
That's awesome Larry!
That's the key to a healthy lifestyle is building a healthy routine.
thanks.
it feels like it's very slow, but i haven't even kicked it into gear yet.
it's not like i'm trying everything, yet only losing a pound a week. i've barely even tried. the biggest thing i've done is cut out the fast food and soft drinks.
i don't usually weigh mid-week, but i was at 224.0 today. that's 17.5 pounds so far. 4.5 more and i'll be under 220. that's a good number to be under. i really feel like this is going to get kicked into high gear once we get back from teh beach after next week. ty will be starting school and we'll join the fitness club.

i start a diet tomorrow. it's a 3 day diet and i should lose 10 lbs. at least i did back in March.
Breakfast will be a slice of toast , 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and 1/2 grapefruit....
Lunch will consist of 1/2 cup of tuna , 1 slice of dry toast , coffee or tea no sugar.
Supper will be 1 cup of red beets , 1 cup of green beans, 4oz. of any meat , 1 small apple , and 1 cup of vanilla ice cream.
i took a week off. what you eat on vacation doesn't count, right?
:D
I saw on one of your posts that you had pizza one day but that was all you ate that day. Watch out for that. Most people don't know it but you don't do youself eating less meals in a day. What happens is that you're telling your body that this is the only time I'm eating today so don't burn any of this fat. It's best to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day. That way your body never worries about when it will get more fuel and by eating often you body is in a constant state of burning calories so you actually will burn more faster in the long run. I'm getting ready to start my own diet thread here. Check it out.
