With this season approaching... the age old question continues to remain. Can you consider your season a success if you dont win the state? If the goal of every team is to win a state championship and you dont accomplish that goal can you consider your season a success? IF you win 12, 13 or 14 games a year but dont win the big one ARE YOU A SUCCESS? FOOD FOR THOUGHT???
Thats a tough one. I want to say yes - that you can be a success without winning it all, but its tough when your team goes 24-2 over the last two seasons, wiping out every team in its path but falls short in the playoffs.
I personally think Ragsdale was the best team in 3A the last two years but I feel they underacheived by not going all the way at least one of those years.
I imagine the boys at Crest feel the same way - awesome teams but no titles.
Its still fun as hell to watch them make their runs - maybe this will be the year.

I agree wossa that it has been very frustrating to the Crest fans that we havent won it all.Crest and Ragsdale were the class of 3a the past couple of years but as we all know the best teams dont alwys win it all. These 2 teams should be the class again this year along with a strong and expirenced S. Point team but all 3 could easily slide again.

And I would much rather watch a team go 13 or 14 and 1 and not win it all, than sit and watch a team struggle to stay at .500.

As a fan, I would think any winning season is a good one, and it used to be that any playoff year was a great one. Since the playoffs are now a bit diluted, depending on whom you ask, I think just having a good winning record is good. Since only four, er, eight teams can win the state, and there are 339 schools, that would mean that 331 didn't have great seasons, and some of them might go unbeaten until the second week of December.
I think winning the state would be a bad indicator of how good a season was. Too much pressure on coaches who get too much criticism, not enough money and have too many headaches already.

What if you were a player on an 0-11 team last year and a 6-5 team this year? I would consider that a successful year, regardless of a state championship ring.

All of the points made are good ones... The discussion is not to determine who is right or wrong or what is or isnt a successful season.. Im just the one who will ask the questions allllll season... Thought provoking ones... Ones that will hopefully spark intelligent/knowledgeable conversation ......
