View Full Version : What happens when I delete my cookies?

I am on Windows NT and share a server with about 20 other people. Everything runs through our server.

My question is if I delete my cookies could I possibly delete something that is shared by others on my server?

I have shit for brains when it comes to this technology stuff.

if you delete your cookies into the floor of your liberty, it can stink it up for months.

I'll take a stab at it. Deleting cookies on your server will not affect other users. Cookies are user-specific, and are stored on each client machine, not on a server.

Cookies are usually stored locally on your own PC. If you can delete cookies off the server, it means either your PC has been set to store your cookies on the server, or you have likely administrative access to the server. Neither of these scenarios is common, since hard drives are so large these days.

I wish I could set up my tasks scheduler to dump my cookies and net files every few days. This manual stuff wears me out.

Netscape has its uses....

Now you see what a monopoly does to you?

I plan putting linux on my computer this summer. Too bad I can't afford to buy an Ultra 10 Sun Station...:(

You'll never get hired if you say stuff like that.

You can loose some log in passwords and usernames that you've preset to gain access to some sites.
While you can regain access by simply reentering the info, there is one site that I frequented that access was gained by simply logging onto the site and they "implant" cookies into my computer[kinda like osmosis]. I deleted my cookies a week ago and have been frequenting the site daily, and still cannot regain access.
I know this sounds like hocus pocus, but I swear it's true.
Their computer probably reads me as already enrolled on their site, yet I can't post because "I'm not autorized."

jazzredcat, I was afraid of something like that. Man I have a shit load of accounts, user names and passwords that I don't even remember anymore because I get log in automatically when I go to that particular web site. That why I haven't deleted anything.

When you delete cookies is it all or nothing? I mean can you go in and identify them individually and just select what you want to delete?

Thanks for the info jazz

OH Patti....just wait.

.NET is upon us and will be on every damn site there is known to man. You will never have to know a password ever again.

No.

Your cookies probably aren't even on the server.

I cleared all my cookies(wholesale, completely) is what I was talking about.
You can delete selected cookies, randomly. I did this and wierd things started happening. But, I rectified the problem by going into my recycle bin and restoring the cookies.[When I deleted all the cookies, they didn't go to the recycle bin.]

I was talking about two tasks:
1) Clearing, per se, cookies means deleting all cookies, and they don't go to the recyle bin, therefore are irretrievable.
2) Deleting cookies randomly/selectively go to the recycle bin, and
are restorable/retrievable.
