why do you go to "the pond"

on the new software, you can password protect a forum. that way, nobody would have to leave tbr to enjoy the seclusion and excusivity of "the pond" -- it could just be a members only.

It's not a comparison thing for me. It's kinda like having two dogs, you love them both- but have reasons why each are unique. Nothing could take the place of TBR and I don't think anyone is trying to.

Larry- was I wrong in assuming that you feel indifferent about whether someone posts there or not? I'm sure when the rubber meets the road, I wouldn't be missed at either place very much, but I'm ok with that.

I've been there, but don't really post. The only reason I go there is because I like Putt. Other than that, it's too nice, can't really cuss, and can't make fun of people. As LadyJane says, it's a place for people to go if they get a little sensitive about things here.

I think you know that because everything here is pretty much no holds barred that people are teased often. Putt doesn't allow that over on his board, and the people there aren't typically the ones that do that sort of thing over here.

i'm still confused about the teasing though. i thought it was ok to teas certain people over there. that's why one of the first forums created was to make fun of voyergirl and most of the initial posts were poing fun at others.

like i said, we can have a forum here at TBR that is for the folks who agree not to tease. to ensure that will be the case, it can be password protected.

it would be simpler to communicate with those people here that you want to and not have to switch boards.

I don't know Larry, I was just saying that that is why *I* go to PM. I come here just as often. I just don't have as much to say as I used to.

I didn't see the forums/posts making fun of others over there. And I'm not talking about the fun, joking around kind of teasing that's on here. I'm talking about the "give it a rest, you've hit below the belt, and won't let go" type teasing.

I go to the Pond because I miss Putt. He rubs a lot of people the wrong way but he calls it as he sees it and I respect that. He's got a killer sense of humor.

There are a lot of things I can't post on TBR because I would get slammed. Sometimes you want to post and not have that fear. Plus the Pond is small and we all know each other. I go there to socialize with Putt. There is also the thing about not having to watch your back that is occasionally nice. It is just another of several message boards I frequent. Each has its own flavor and draws me for different reasons.

there are millions of places on the WWW. TBR is a cool place but it isn't the be all and end all and Larry it's not possible for you to make it that way. I'll keep reading and posting here.

Just like I will any other place on the web I run across that I find interesting.

I checked it out once out of sheer curiosity. But it wouldn't let me lurk unless I registered, so I left. I figured it was kind of a "by invitation only" thing, or those who are welcome would know. I didn't know, and decided it wasn't worth the effort. I'm already active on two boards now, and about to open my own board in a week or so, so I'll be too busy for the Pond even if I was interested. My friends know where to find me. :)

Gawd - this is so bloody true! I got really upset this morning over the whole Cuda / cut and paste / argument thing and I said things that really were not couth :(. Larry - As you have mentioned to me before - the RANT & RAVE forum is quite literally a free for all - say what you want - no filtering period.

I think it should stay that way.

If there are enough people complaining about being chewed up over comments (and I will agree that some people can be agressive) then perhaps starting a new forum would be a good idea. It's not a comparison thing for me. It's kinda like having two dogs, you love them both- but have reasons why each are unique.
