Since the introduction of a network card for RoadRunner, my computer can't determine that my cd-rw actually is capable of recording. Direct CD works fine as normal, but Easy CD Creator has lost it's mind. Nothing changed except that card.
I downloaded a new program with a 30 day trial and it burns cds like nobody's business. Any reason why Adaptec would just loose it's mind like that?

Been to roxio.com and downloaded the updates but that didn't help either. HP doesn't have any updates and neither does Smart&Friendly seeing as how they are now out of business. (I tried my roommate's cd-rw too, in case you're wondering why 2).

I'm lost. I feel stupid. Help?

Also, my USB ports aren't getting power. Same thing? Long time ago I was able to fiddle with IRQ's and all that stuff, but now....my mind is mush.

I just remeber having similar problems with IRQ but I can't remember how i fixed it . I think I took the lan card out and uninstalled any drivers or software that were with it.

Well, that sort of ruins my roadrunner experience? I found one tonight that works so I know it's not the burner. Just now I'm getting buffer underruns. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

'buffer underruns' means something is occupying the drive or the processor while you're burning. The CD writer has to have a steady stream of data while burning. I have to turn off my screen saver when I burn, and before I disabled it, the automated Windows update notification task. I had McAfee, and had to disable it, but since I went to Norton, I don't have to worry about it.

If you're copying CD's, you can also set up the software to make a copy on the hard drive first. Make sure the drive doesn't have errors and that it's defragged first, though.

I can't think of anything that might be running in the background. Could a k6-2 400 with 256 MB of RAM not handle 6 or 8 times speed?

It's not about whether the processor can handle the burning, it's whether the processor is being asked to do something during the burning.
