View Full Version : favorite 'name' song
...your favorite song with a person's name in it/with a person's name as the title?
Mine:
Instrumentally, "Laura". Preferably solo piano or done with solo wind over strings, a la Clifford Brown, Charlie Parker. Beats out "A Portrait of Jenny". Chances are you've never heard either song.
Straight up vocal song: Wind Cries Mary, Jimi Hendrix.
:D :D
I can't resist because I just downloaded this one - no lie
Black Betty - Ram Jam
for real tho I got many favorites
Peg - Steely Dan
Sweet Melissa - Allman Brothers
Sara Smiles - Hall and Oates
just off the top of my head.

You can always tell a rock song because they always say it 2 or more times
Well in that case
Oh, Susie Q, Oh, Susie Q,
Oh, Susie Q, Baby I love you, Susie Q.
I like the way you walk, I like the way you talk;
I like the way you walk, I like the way you talk, Susie Q.
Well, say that you'll be true, well, say that you'll be true,
Well, say that you'll be true, and never leave me blue, Susie Q.
Well, say that you'll be mine, well, say that you'll be mine,
Well, say that you'll be mine, baby all the time, Susie Q.
Who Do True Two You Blue Who (*)
Oh Susie Q, Oh Susie Q,

One thing
I miss
Is Cold Ethyl and her skeleton kiss
We met
last night
making love by the refrigerator light Ethyl Ethyl let me squeeze you in my arms
Ethyl Ethyl come and freeze me with your charms
One thing
No lie
Ethyl's frigid as an eskimo pie
She's cool in bed
Well she oughta be - 'cuz Ethyl's dead!
Ethyl Ethyl let me squeeze you in my arms
Ethyl Ethyl come and freeze me with your charms
Come on Cold Ethyl
Freeze me babe
One thing
it's true
Cold Ethyl, I am stuck on you
And everything
is my way
Ethyl don't have much to say
Ethyl Ethyl let me squeeze you in my arms
Ethyl Ethyl come and freeze me with your charms
Come here Cold Ethyl
What makes you so cold? Ooooh... so cold...
Cold Ethyl
Cold Cold Ethyl
If I live 'til
ninety-seven
You'll still be waiting in refrigerator heaven
'cuz you're cool
You're ice
Cold Ethyl

OK , I was wrong. Margaret is good, but my favourite 'name' song is 'Caroline' by Robert Wyatt, an English jazz drummer.
Wyatt went to a party, dropped a tab of acid and took a lady to a bedroom. They were shagging away (a la Austin Powers) when there was a tremendous banging on the bedroom door. Under the influence of the LSD, Robert assumed it was the lady's husband and jumped out of the window. He broke his back and is paralysed from the waist down.
'Caroline' is dedicated to his ex-girlfriend, Caroline Coon, a journalist, who rejected him. It's a love song. I'm not particularly sentimental, but this song makes my eyes water!
not my favorite, but i like it...(cath, if you notice, we were just posting name songs)

I heard this song the other day and finally realized he was singing that part in French, so it's not "my belle", but "ma belle" (my beautiful). The "sont des mots qui vont tres bien ensemble" part is French for the "are words that go together well". Cool song.
MICHELLE, MA BELLE,
THESE ARE WORDS THAT GO TOGETHER WELL,
MY MICHELLE.
MICHELLE, MA BELLE,
SONT DES MOTS QUI VONT TRES BIEN ENSEMBLE,
TRES BIEN ENSEMBLE.
I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU,
THAT'S ALL I WANT TO SAY.
UNTIL I FIND A WAY,
I WILL SAY THE ONLY WORDS I KNOW
THAT YOU'LL UNDERSTAND.
MICHELLE, MA BELLE,
SONT DES MOTS QUI VONT TRES BIEN ENSEMBLE,
TRES BIEN ENSEMBLE.
I NEED TO, I NEED TO, I NEED TO,
I NEED TO MAKE YOU SEE.
OH, WHAT YOU MEAN TO ME.
UNTIL I DO, I'M HOPING YOU
WILL KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
I LOVE YOU-OO-OO.
I WANT YOU, I WANT YOU, I WANT YOU,
I THINK YOU KNOW BY NOW.
I´LL GET TO YOU SOMEHOW.
UNTIL I DO, I'M TELLING YOU,
SO YOU'LL UNDERSTAND.
MICHELLE, MA BELLE,
SONT DES MOTS QUI VONT TRES BIEN ENSEMBLE,
TRES BIEN ENSEMBLE.
AND I WILL SAY THE ONLY WORDS I KNOW
THAT YOU'LL UNDERSTAND,
MY MICHELLE.

Can Mama by John Lennon count as a name song? You know-it goes something like "Mama, I had you-but you never had me"..
If not-Niki By Prince....... Not sure about the spelling on this-goes something like " I knew a girl named Niki guess you could say she was a sex fiend. Met her in a hotel lobby masterbating with a magizine"... Damn-that is a cool song.. Someone may have already picked it-if so-good choice! Cause I sure cannot go back and read all pages.. lol......
proper nouns, i think and has to be song title.
niki by prince. like that. ;)

Bummer.. I think the song should still count.. lol.... I mean Mama could be a name of a person and in the song it is the name he is using for someone.. hehe.... OK.. It does not count. *sigh* In real life I would argue the whole Mama should be able to count at a Name Song thing.. But since we are here- Niki will have to do...
Also-I hope nobody here looks to me for proper use of words and the proper use English-they will be let down. lol..... I gave all that crap up when I left school-do not think so? Read one of my poems or stories.. hehe.. :-)
:roflmao: you cwack me up, ladyp.
ok, ok. you got a count for mama! yay. :D
omg. i am a spelling nazi, and grammar, too. oh man...i can just see it now. you and i be pulling each other's hair, not to mention scratching each other's eyes out! :roflmao:
