They filled their car up with gas, stocked up on groceries and went to Walmart twice! All in one day! Damn.

But thank God, I won't be responsible for any of the charges!

Sweet....The clerks that took the card without id should be fired. Pin numbers is where it's at. And try to be more responsible next time. You're costing us money with all these writeoffs. :D

REally, sorry bout the theft. And really, really....try not to lose it again.

Yes, I did lose it. I am almost 100% sure how it happened. A couple of days ago I filled up with gas. I always use my cc to pay at the pump. Well I had on a hooded sweatshirt and after I swiped the card I put the cc in the front pocket of the sweatshirt.

I don't remember taking it out and putting it back in my wallet. I guess it fell out at some point. :(

Yeah be careful out there guys. There is always some lowlife just waiting for you to give them an opportunity.

And you are right builder. I am never ever asked for my id when I use my cc. No pin # with it either.

the id and pin# don't matter. as soon as a card is reported it no longer works and when swiped the clerks get a code or something to call the cops or some such. at best you have 12 hrs in which to capitalise on a stolen cc and you are responcible for 50 bucks charged on your stolen card i think.

They still got over 500 dollars worth of stuff. Granted it will come up now that it has been stolen but I bet they never recoop what was already charged on the card.

And the lady I talked to last night said I had 100% fraud coverage. I don't have to pay a penny of the stolen charges.

Feel no sorrow for the bank. Under thier contracts with merchants, they simply deduct the total from the merchant that took the bogus charges. It is up to the stores to screen for the banks. Also, they often levy a fine against the merchant for allowing the fraudelent charges.

And I would check your statement for the 100% fraud coverage. That is usually an extra charge they get from you passed on total debt carried on the card as an insurance against loss. It is pure profit for the bank because they incur no loss in a fraud case, only the merchant does.

Oh I don't feel sorry for the banks at all. They are all going to hell.

But what do you mean "an extra charge they get from me passed on total debt carried on the card as an insurance against loss"? I'm not understanding that. I don't even pay an annual fee.

Banks wont even waste their time on that measley $500. Maybe a phone call or two but thats it.

Depends on the credit card company. Most of the better ones include things like that as part of the service. Others tend to garner all sorts of charges in order to finance thier low low interest rates. I tend to stick with the big ones like American Express, BofA and my credit union for credit cards as they usually do not try to service fee you to death...

Mine was stolen several months back - the little shit who took mine got busted trying to use it at a gas station. He just so happened to be trying to make a purchase with the card when the cop who had taken my police report (only a couple hours before) walked in to buy something.

Apparently the jerk was arguing with the clerk whether or not he was actually me - seems that I had my picture put on all my credit cards and he was only about a foot shorter and 100 pounds heavier (plus a goatee). :D

THREE BITS OF ADVICE:

1. Call your credit card company ASAP and report it.

2. Call the credit reporting agencies (the big three) and notify them that your card has been stolen so they can tag your name and social security number so they are aware that fraud has occured and it won't count against you. This also helps as a preventive measure in case the person decides to try and use your identity to get another card. Slim chance without your SS# but you never know.

3. There is also a national fraud hotline (can't remember the number). Google it and see then call and make them aware.

Best of luck....

You didn't by chance get gas at the Citgo @ Little Rock & 85? My roommate recently lost her card there and they filled up with gas, 2 trips to WalMart, $50 at Wingzone, Trip to K-Mart, and a trip to Lowes, all in couple of hours.

Checkout what happened to me.My wallet was stolen about 4 months ago.The first place the little shit goes is to the liquor store. What he doesn't know is that my brother-n-law owns it and knows what I look like.He gives the fellow some song and dance to stall him till the cops get there. He's now in the Cobb county jail.My wallet and all contents, yes even the cash were there. He goes to all that trouble for nothing.

Thing about those Credit Card/ATM cards, it comes right out of your checking account. Mine has my picture on it. Gas pumps don't check picture ID's though. I won't buy gas if it's not pay at the pump, unless I really need it, then I'll just a few gallons.

I hope they at least bought toys and condoms at Walmart.

Sorry for your luck Patti

I would've had a dinner on Patti.

Glad you're not out any money though. It pays to be careful with the plastic, especially at this time of the year.

Do you know I thought of that last night after I talked to the lady from the cc company.

What would keep someone from doing that? I bet it's done all the time.

Credit card theft & identity theft can be a huge, huge nightmare. I've talked with people that have been through it. Patti, I'm so glad for you that it wasn't any worse!

I work in retail, & the policy at my business is to require identification from the customer who's using a credit card or a check card if the card is not signed. If you sign your card, anybody can use it.

And STILL we get customers who get all pissed off if they have to show ID! We try to politely explain that it's for THEIR protection, but . . . oh well, some people just live to bitch & moan, I guess.

I always write "Please check photo ID" in the signature space on my cards. Most people never even look, much less ask; but I hope that at least it will be less attractive to a thief that way.
