I have the Bellsouth DSL, so far I am quite happy. It has gone out once in 3 months. My RR did it often. My speed is fast as hell because my house is 150 yards from a router. it is a dedicated line and the closer to the router the fast the connection. I tested the other day and hit 1500kbs, I average 900-100kps. Set up was easy. They supply everything you need, simple directions then the tech supprt walks you through the set up....As you can surmise I like it.

OOOHHHH...Let me tell you about these people...But I'll have to do it another time. Tired, and drunk, I think I might be overly nice and that's not my intention AT ALL.
Fuck Bellsouth.

And it begins....Again, and again, and again....
March 12, 2002 - Call Bellsouth to transfer DSL and home phone from 3701 ___________ Drive to 3134 __________ Way. Success.
March 15 - 7am no phone, no DSL. As planned.
March 20 - Received email confirming my address change and my new DSL order for new address.
March 25 - Call Bellsouth to check on the status of my order. Told that DSL will be operating normally as of March 27 and everything is A-Ok. Bullshit.
March 27 - Call Bellsouth to check status because DSL is not working. Told by the helpless lady on the other end that my account has been active since Tuesday and it must be a glitch. Recheck all and if you're still not connected, call tech support at 1800 eatshitanddie.
March 28 - morning. Call Bellsouth tech support to find out why DSL not working. Told to uninstall my modem card and resinstall the drivers. Done. Drivers would not reinstall. During the day, UPS delivers the new cd and the new filters for the phone jacks.
-afternoon. Call Bellsouth Tech support and ask for help reinstalling drivers. Directed by the idiot techie to go to ftp://bellsouth........Which helps a whole fucking lot considering I DON'T HAVE A GODDAMN INTERNET CONNECTION! Hang up the phone and do what I should have done to begin with and the drivers are reinstalled within the hour.
-late evening. Call Bellsouth Tech Support and ask for the status on my service request since I hung up on the last guy. Told that DSL is working. Line check was run and the signal is not being returned. Must be something on my end. Uninstall/reinstall....NO FUCKING WAY MAN! Run another line test so I have to hang up. No one calls me back.
-later evening. Four hours of waiting with a phone to my ear...I get some guy that tells me that the DSL order was never placed for my new address and he offers to place it for me. I tell him no thank you and hang up. I call back a few minutes later after I have cleared my throat. I ask to speak to a manager promptly and wait 10 minutes to get someone. He tells me that everything is in place and that the only thing they can do is to offer to send someone out to check for sync at the NID. Fine. How long? Monday. Fine. Fuck it.
April 1 - I receive a call at 3:30 from my roommate telling me to call this technician in the field on his mobile phone. I do so and he tells me that it may be impossible to get DSL at my new location due to the 19,000 feet of wire running from the central office to my home. Try, please. He calls back to 4:30 to tell me that my DSL order has been cancelled effect immediately and he can no longer offer his services. Please call......
So I call. And I talk to billing who tells me that everything is in order and that the order placed for 3701 ___________ Drive should have been hooked up already. HUH? WTF? I just disconnected it there you dumb ass. I don't even have a phone there. I'm done. He hands me off to tech support because my order is apparently screwed up. Yeah, it's a day that ends in "y" ain't it? So the tech guy says that he has a cancellation placed by ME on March 29. I never even talked to them on the 29th and wondered allowed how long it would take TimeWarner to get out here. He asks me to wait and hands me off to customer service, AGAIN. So she tells me that she will personally look into this. She can't place a new order today because of the cancellation that went into effect at noon. Fine. When? How long? I can call you in the morning and get you on our priority install list. Yeah, fine.....
So after all of that, another three weeks passed (which I don't have the personal gumption left to explain) and still no DSL. And in case you're wondering, my new email address as of last saturday is
cltbuilder@carolina.rr.com
FUCK Bellsouth.

Actually, I got this thing in the mail from Earthlink. They offer high speed access through TW-RR but for $41.95, not $49.95. Check it out.
Fuck Bellsouth. RR all the way.

Down here in the backwoods of York County, we get 2 choices - Comporium DSL & Comporium Cable Modem. The pricing isn't really that different, but there have been times when the cable just drops, even though the TV's are working. Cable modem is good enough for me, as long as Comporium can manage the growth of the network. That's why DSL is better because it guarantees a consistent data rate.

i'm currently using fast access...have an external modem...seems to be working just fine...no problems.
But when I do have a problem, and then Bell South takes me to the cleaners and I have to deal with dumb ass "techies" who think they are know-it-alls because they can read out of a fucking manual!!!

When I had no DSL service, they kept trying to get me to DOWNLOAD the new drivers. Bunch of fucking dumbasses.
I have The Charter PipeLine (Asheville's version of TW/RoadRunner) and I LOVE IT!

I have had Bell South Fastaccess for 2 years. Not one problem, and I consistently get great transfer rates.
I must be the exception to the rule.
