Not much has been said about this conference like in years past, so I'm just wandering how everything is looking there. Can anyone fill me in

not sure but bigdan should have some once the holiday tournaments kick in. Next years member(proposed) Crest is 6-0 on the year but only played against Cleveland and Gaston county teams and abit hard to gauge and still too early!
yeah, it's a bit early to make a good call on how things will pan out. McDowell's conference opener is next friday night at home against Alex. Central.

So far this year I have seen everyone except Reynolds. From what I have seen Mcdowell should come out on top this year but still they have to come to play every night or they could be upset by Freedom, South Caldwell or maybe East Burke. Freedom just hasn't look to be as good as years past but with the tradition there they will always be a threat. South Caldwell is not going to blow out anyone but they are very young and should get better as the year goes on. With what they have coming up look for them to return to the dominance of 4 or 5 years back. East Burke is pretty much a one player team but they do have just enough to be dangerous. I think from what I hear Reynolds could be a contender but not having seen them I will just have to wait and see. As for Alexander and Watagua the only games they should win is when they play each other.
My preseason picks are as follows:
Mcdowell
Reynolds
Freedom
South Caldwell
East Burke
Alexander
Watagua

I believe South Caldwell will have to wait 2 years before any move toward the top. I feel McDowell can be very good this year and with all starters and the top sub coming back next year, that could be down right scary!
By the way, I haven't heard any mention of Crest moving back to 4A. Is that good information?

supposedly, in another year or so, they will be redistricting, or whatever they call it... where they count students in schools again and reclassify them... i think it will not be next season, but the one after that... that is probably where the crest team would possibly reenter the nw4a... i have heard that south may get bumped back to 3a, and reynolds may get moved to a different conference.... nothing factual there, just things i heard from speculators...
but, as far as i can tell, that is 2 seasons away...
for my take on the conference... i agree with reporter's assessment... seems like south and east will again battle for 4 and 5... south should have the edge this year... watauga and alexander will battle for the bottom rungs on the ladder...
and again mcdowell, freedom, and reynolds should be the top 3... if i had to choose today, i would echo freedom's 3rd place vote that reporter is predicting... but, we all know they have talent, some of the best... so perhaps by january they will be back in true freedom form... mcdowell should repeat as conf. champs, but i don't expect them to go through conference undefeated this year... i think the inside game (lack of) will bite them at least once this season... who knows... we could end up with a 3 way tie this year... these teams seem a little more evenly matched this season...
should be fun to see what unfolds... good luck to all...
:D thanks for the insight and i hope someone will list the holiday tournaments that are on tap for this season...............
welcome back all bball Fans in NW4A and the rest...hehehehe;)
From what I have seen Mcdowell is the only dominate team in the conference. I have not seen AC Reynolds play yet. Freedom is a good team but not as good as they have been in the past. Teams are focusing on shuting done Tara and Leah and are being successfull. South Caldwell is a good shooting team but is dominated and runs through Heather Prichett. East Burke is a one person ball team. Stop Ashley Helton and the game is over. Watauga is rebuilding. They are playing pretty decent basketball. They probably have one of the most unheard of and underrated defenders in the conference(#4). Alexander will struggle again.
My picks are:
Mcdowell
AC Reynolds
Freedom
Watauga
South Caldwell
East Burke
Alexander
I don't think that Mcdowell will win the conference with a undefeated season like last year. Someone will knock them off.

mtnman... no way watauga will finish ahead of south.... and highly unlikely they will finish above east burke, though that would suprise me less... but south is definitely going to finish above watauga...
mtnman........welcome aboard and thanks for the insight.
What Christmas tournament is McDowell and Freedom in this year?

What Christmas tournament is McDowell and Freedom in this year?
McDowell girls are playing at the Freedom tourney. There are quite a few Charlotte teams coming, but I'm not sure which ones are coming. Freedom girls are going to Atlanta GA for a 4 day tourney.
I am a ref and have had each of the teams. I was at the scrimmage at Bunker Hill and South did not impress me any. I think Watauga can handle South if they take Heather out of the game. South likes to run and gun, so teams are going to have to get back on defense. I was suprised that Mcdowell lost. They were impressive in the game I had. Very quick team.

I Think it will be a 3-way battle for first with Freedom,Mcdowell and Ac Reynolds.I know our girls did struggle with 2 losses that they could have won,But I feel the sleeping giant has been woke up.
U can never count the Lady patriots out,Freedom has looked solid this week in crushing burns and completly dominating east forsyth and shutting down duke bound Chante Black.
Freedom will be in the race and surprise some people.

NEVER count out Freedom, they have a quality program and are always in the hunt for the NW4A title. A. C. Reynolds is having a great year so far losing only 2 games both to the defending 3A state champions and current #1 3A team Asheville. The first game was a 6 point game and the one last night was a 22 point game, however we were without all conference guard Katie Rybacki who has been out for a couple of weeks with knee injury. I am not saying we would have beat them, just that the game would have been closer. I think McDowell is the team to beat, but ACR and Freedom will be there in the hunt all year long. Don't overlook either one. It should be an exciting year in the conference! Good luck to all!

Didn't this conference open up Friday? What were all the scores?
And for my input in the conference....I agree with most of them
1, 2, 3- I think its a toss up anyway between McDowell, Freedom, and ACR, but you always have to give McDowell the upper hand because of previous seasons and their record this year. We all know though that this is one of the most battling conferences in the state though and you have to take it one day at a time.
4- South Caldwell- I've seen them play a few times, and we when they all show up to play, I think they could beat a few teams, they just have to be ready every night
5- East Burke- Its hard to do with just one player, but I think with that they can definitly get past Watauga and Alexander
6- Watauga- They have a decent ball team, but I dont think they will get very far in this conf.
7- Alexander- Just heard they lost alot and aren't doing very well this season.

ACR's game with East Burke that was scheduled for Friday was postponed until Monday, Dec. 22. due to snow. That is our conference opener. I know McDowell distroyed Alexander Central Friday something like 74 to 36. I think your summary of Alexander is pretty accurate!

Alexander. You can go to the softball forum and read about it
ACR had a strong second half to beat East Burke last night in Ashville. ACR ended up winning by 21. East Burke folded under the ACR full court press. EB tried to press ACR but fell further behind. Watauga and SC did not play Monday. Looks like everyones predictions for the conference held true to form for the first games.
Merry Christmas and good luck in the Christmas Tournaments!
