Here is a list of games for this coming week, let's hear your thoughts on what might happen! Looks like a HUGE week for the South Caldwell team!

Feb. 3:

McDowell at East Burke
Freedom at South Caldwell

Feb. 4:

Alexander Central at AC Reynolds (make up game from last week)

Feb. 5:

Watauga at AC Reynolds (Game moved from Tue. due to weather)

Feb. 6:

McDowell at South Caldwell
Alexander Central at Freedom
East Burke at Watauga

South Caldwell has two big home games and can make a little noise, and even pass Freedom in the standings with a win over them on Tuesday. Should be interesting, and everyone knows it's tough to play at South Caldwell. I don't think McDowell will lose this week, and I don't think ACR will have any problems either. Let's just hope all the gals stay healthy for all the teams! Let's hear your thoughts! By the way the NW4A standings are posted on www.biggreencountry.com, we think all the records are correct. If you notice an incorrect record please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for the correction. I went back and corrected it. I had it written down on my paper correct, I just for some reason typed in in backwards! Anyway thanks for correcting me!

The only good game on Tuesday will be Freedom at South Caldwell. Freedom is in my opinion been very overrated this year and I don't think they can go down and win to SC. Not saying that SC is that good just don't think Freedom will beat them there.
SC 62
Freedom 58
Mcdowell and Reynolds should win easily on Tuesday
Fridays East Burke at Watagua will be a good one I'm picking East Burke but Watagua could win this one since it is at Watagua
Freedom will kill Alexander; enough said
Mcdowell should handle South Caldwell but it is at SC and Mcdowell will have to play well. Still I'm picking Mcdowell

It's good to see there ARE other people out there! Thanks for the response. I hope some others will respond soon as well. I don't know if I agree about Freedom being overrated, but I do think SC can beat them on Tuesday night, so Freedom better be ready to play, same for McDowell on Friday, SC is TOUGH at home! ACR escaped with a 7 point win there!

This could potentially be a HUGE week for South Caldwell. They are currently tied with Freedom for third place (5-3). They have two home games against McDowell and Freedom. I would not be too suprised if they beat Freedom this time, and I know they will give McDowell a good game. If things were to fall just right, they could make a serious jump in the standings.

South Caldwell got a big win over Freedom tonight. I think the final score was SC 65 - Freedom 56. That could not be exact but I'm pretty sure they won by 9 points. Still SC will have to play much better Friday to hang with Mcdowell.

Wow! I knew it was possible but thought it wouldn't happen.

McDowell beat East Burke 73-54. Aimee Kiser had I thought her best all around game of the season: rebounding, scoring points, hustling, everything. Ball movement looked good, but still need to limit the opposition's offensive rebounds.

Be ready to scrap Friday night because you know South will be fired up.

Ladiesfan, I would agree about Kiser. Definitely the best showing of the season for her. But I think she'll see tougher teams inside than what she went up against tonight. We need a post player to step up badly for McDowell to be successful when we play Reynolds again and in playoff action. BTW, she scored 19 tonight, Lovik has 17 and Brown had 14.

I hear word from Morganton that Tara Tate injured her ankle tonight in the game against South Caldwell. I'm hearing conflicting reports on how bad it may be, definitely too early to speculate. With tonight's win, South moves into 3rd place on their own with a 6-3 conference record, and only two games behind McDowell going into Friday Night.

Wow,Bigdan you told me at the last McDowell game that it was possible freedom might not make the playoffs and you may be right. When they come to McDowell they will be fighting for the playoffs so it should be a good game. I think the lady rockets are in the drivers seat. They will be fired up when they come to the silver dome because the state polls are still shunning them. With McDowell being ranked third and reynolds eighth even though they soundly beat mcDowell heads up.

Although you make a valid point about the polls, I still feel that since the championships are won on the court and not in the polls that ACR will not use that as incentive. The ONLY incentive they will have is the fact that ACR has NEVER won the NW4A conference in Girls B-Ball, and to do so would be a great accomplishment, and one that you can always point to, especially with the likes of McDowell, and Freedom, and NOW South Caldwell in the Conference. That is the only incentive these girl have trust me, I have heard them talk and that is goal #1.

i don't think freedom will be "fighting" for a playoff spot... we have 4 berths, and freedom is in the top 4... they are a couple of games ahead of east burke... freedom only has to win one more game to lock up at least 4th place... even if east burke wins the rest of their games, if my calc's are right, freedom only has to beat alexander central to finish with a better record than east burke in 5th... someone correct me if i am wrong, but i think that is right...

if freedom does finish 4th, the only way they don't make the playoffs is if east burke, watauga, or alexander central wins the conf. tourney... i don't see anyway in the world that will happen...

even if tate is out for the season, freedom can beat alex. central, and most likely east burke... mcdowell will beat them regardless...

Well, I see it this way...

1. Freedom should not be in this situation anyway. Granted, they are not as good as previous seasons, but to even mention the possibility of them not making the playoffs, is not a good sign for those in Morganton. You know with the winning tradition that Freedom has, that somebody's job is not secure at this time.

2. Freedom will more than likely hold on to the #4 spot, but being only two games ahead of East Burke, there is little room for error. The game Friday Night against Alex. Central, should be a defininite win for Freedom, especially being Senior Night. But then playing at McDowell and at East Burke, both being rivalry games, those are going to be tough games with or without Tara Tate.

BTW, if the conference tourney were to start today, you would have the following Quarterfinal matchups:

#1 AC Reynolds-BYE
#5 East Burke @ #4 Freedom
#6 Watauga @ #3 South Caldwell
#7 Alex. Central @ #2 McDowell

i agree, those games, mcdowell and east burke, will be tough games... but what i am saying is that it doesn't matter... as long as they beat alexander central, they are in the playoffs... i was just replying to the comment about them "fighting for a playoff spot"...

Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you have said. I just find it unbelieveable that Freedom is even in this situation. They have too much talent to be in this position.

ACR wins tonight (Feb. 4), not much of a suprise, as they take out Alexander Central 63-33. Balanced scoring from the Lady Rockets tonight, Sydney Alexander had 17, Michelle Bennett came off the bench to score 10, then Brianna Worley, Kendra Wright, and Alex Thompson all had 7, and Freshman Amanda Whitaker finished with 6. After the first quarter the Lady Rockets really controlled the game. The score was 12 to 12 after one, but it was all ACR after that, as ACR only gave up 21 points the rest of the game. Reynolds rested their starters most of the second half as they have another game tomorrow night (Feb. 5) against Watauga, at home. On another note, congrats to the Rockets MEN team as they won their first conference game, a 84-73 win over Alexander Central. Aaron Collazo finished with 31.

Mcdowell is at South Caldwell Friday. Wondering what everyones thoughts on this one are. I know it is tough to play at South but will that be enough to get them a victory over Mcdowell. I saw the first game and SC has improved some since then but with that and being at home I just don't think they have enough for Mcdowell. I'm picking Mcdowell by 8. Still an upset here wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure the Reynolds girls will be pulling for SC as that would help them in the standings as they too have to play South but that game is in Ashville

yeah it should be a good game. McDowell cannot afford to come out sluggish in the first half against the Spartans, or they could get an early jump on the Lady Titans, just like Reynolds did to McDowell. McDowell also needs to get tougher on the boards. Aimee Kiser had her best game of the year against East Burke, that needs to continue. The bench for McDowell also needs to step up. Bruington has been playing well the last couple game, Revis needs to keep up the aggressive defense. And Whtiney Mace, who saw playing time against East Burke could give good minutes to keep the starters fresh as the game and as the season goes on. I predict McDowell to win, but I don't think the margin will be that big, I predict less than 10 points.

Honestly, McDowell will handle South Caldwell. It will be a fight, but McDowell knows how to win and will win. It will come down to the 4th quarter and the Lady Titans will take a 10 point win. I think McDowell will not let anything happen to them, they want the Feb. 13 meeting with ACR to mean something, and the same goes for ACR. Should be a fun night!

mcdowell is the better team, but has some weaknesses... south is riding high right now and has to be running on some adrenaline after finally beating freedom... they definitely could pull the upset, but i too, feel that in the end, mcdowell will come out on top... depth could be a factor, and south doesn't have the quality subs that mcdowell does... if mcdowell gets a full court game going with a quick tempo, south will probably fall short towards the end...

should be a great game though, and honestly could go either way... but mcdowell consistantly beats the teams they are supposed to beat... good coaching, and good discipline... they should prevail...

McDowell and Reynolds has nothing to do with Freedom. Here are the two scenarios for Freedom to somehow miss the state playoffs.

1. Freedom would have to finish in 5th place. They are currently in 4th place, two games ahead of East Burke. If East Burke were to move ahead of Freedom at the end of the regular season, and Freedom did not win the conference tourney, they would be out.

2. If Freedom was to finish 4th in the conference, but a team lower than them were to win the conference tourney, then Freedom would be out.

3. If Freedom and another team were to tie for 4th place, then which team that advances the farthest in the conference tourney would get the playoff seed. In other words, with the way the conference tourney is set up, those two teams would meet in the quarterfinal matchup anyway. Therefore, that quarterfinal game would determine the playoff seed.

Those three scenarios are the only way that Freedom could not make the playoffs.

all of the above is true... however, here is a little addition to that scenario...

freedom has to lose the next 3 games to end up tied for 4th, and east burke has to win all of their remaining games...

freedom has alexander central tomorrow night... if they win, there is no way a tie for 4th will exist...

so, there is a slight, slight chance of a tie, but if freedom gets the job done tomorrow night, then they have 4th locked up, and can only improve...

when they win tomorrow night (yes, WHEN), then it would take east burke, watauga, or alexander central winning the conference tourney to put freedom out of the playoffs...

take all that into consideration, and i think you will find freedom playing in the post-season one more time...

Bigdan, you make a valid point about somebodys job being insecure at freedom. I know the pressure marsha crump had put on her when she lost to McDowell and this has been a big letdown year for the lady patriots. Have you found out how serious tara tate is injured.

A lot of tight-lipped people down in Burke County, I haven't heard much at all about Tara and her condition. Maybe it's not serious...

ACR wins again tonight, in a make-up game with Watauga, 69-53. Yes, it looked like ACR was tired tonight after playing last night as well. Oh well, next week is the week, South Caldwell, Tuesday night, and McDowell Firday night. Game on!!!
